Pedara sorge sulle colline meridionali dell'Etna, evolvendosi socialmente e demograficamente nei secoli attorno agli antichi crateri di monte Difeso e monte Troina. Non si possiedono notizie certe sulle sue origini perché le numerose colate laviche ne hanno quasi del tutto cancellato le tracce.
Durante la stagione estiva è luogo di villeggiatura per il clima più fresco rispetto a Catania dovuto alla quota altimetrica. Nella parte più a nord si trova l'antico borgo rurale della Tarderia, immerso in un'ampia estensione di castagneti con flora montana ed essenze arboree alpine. Da Pedara si raggiunge facilmente l'Etna (circa 15 km.). Lungo la strada provinciale per l'Etna la fossa del Salto del Cane, un antico cratere spento con area attrezzata (Punto Base per l'Escursionismo del Parco dell'Etna).
Pedara rises on the southern hills of Etna, evolving socially and demographically over the centuries around the ancient craters of mount Difeso and mount Troina. There is no certain information on its origins because the numerous lava flows have almost completely erased its traces.
During the summer season it is a holiday resort due to the cooler climate than in Catania due to the altitude. In the northern part there is the ancient rural village of Tarderia, immersed in a wide extension of chestnut groves with mountain flora and alpine tree species. From Pedara you can easily reach Etna (about 15 km.). Along the provincial road to Etna, the pit of the Salto del Cane, an ancient extinct crater with equipped area (Base Point for Hiking in the Etna Park).

The church of San Pancrazio is a place of worship located along the San Pancrazio climb in the municipality of Taormina , archpriest of Taormina. The Temple of Zeus Serapis is attested by the findings of marble with epigraphs, respectively in 1861 and 1867, the statue of Priestess of Isis, a gold ring of the Priest of the temple of Jupiter Serapis found in 1742 engraving. The main facade of the church facing east incorporates a monumental baroque portal , fruit of the delicate combination of white and pink marble with variegated mottling, a brief theory of four steps in stone of Taormina connects the churchyard with the temple hall.
The protruding structure is delimited by lateral ionic style columns , a couple prospectively advanced and elevated on high plinths , whose Corinthian capitals support an architrave , determined by the intersection of the three corresponding faces, rich in articulated moldings . The central passage is therefore delimited by two oblique niches with central shelves . The corbels house marble sculptures, on the right stands the San Procopio statue in bishop's clothes, iconographically depicted with the heart in the right hand raised, signifying martyrdom suffered by the Saracens on 1 August 902 led byIbrāhīm ibn Ahmed . On the left the statue of another saint in bishop's clothes, probably San Pancrazio or San Massimo his successor on the Tauromenitana chair. The perspective of the simple wall bordered by angular lateral pilasters closes with a triangular pediment that includes a blind oculus , at the top the wrought iron cross decorated with rays at the intersection of the two arms.
On the right side above the sacristy in a backward position rises the bell tower, the middle part is built with squared blocks of Taormina stone. the upper order has four round arches , one on each side with jambs , arches and arched stone keys of Taormina delimited by convex pilasters , which form the open-air openings of the belfry .
On the balcony there is an octagonal lantern with arched openings on alternate facets, in turn surmounted by a small dome with a small lantern surmounted by a stone sphere bearing a wrought iron cross with a wind vane . To the four corners of the cornice of the gallery there is a crenellation with double volute motifs, which recalls the top decoration of the pillars of the wrought iron gate that leads to the sacred area.

Catania Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Catania; Cattedrale di Sant'Agata), dedicated to Saint Agatha, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. It was the seat of the Bishops of Catania until 1859, when the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese, and since then has been the seat of the Archbishops of Catania.
The cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt several times because of earthquakes and eruptions of the nearby Mount Etna. It was originally constructed in 1078–1093, on the ruins of the ancient Roman Achillean Baths, by order of Roger I of Sicily, who had conquered the city from the Islamic emirate of Sicily. At the time it had the appearance of a fortified church (ecclesia munita).
In 1169 it was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake, leaving only the apse area intact. Further damage was caused by a fire in 1169, but the most catastrophic event was the 1693 earthquake, which again left it mostly in ruins. It was subsequently rebuilt in Baroque style.
Today, traces of the original Norman edifice include part of the transept, the two towers and the three semicircular apses, composed of large lava stones, most of them recovered from imperial Roman buildings.
The current appearance of the cathedral dates from the work in 1711 of Gian Battista Vaccarini, who designed a new Baroque façade after the 1693 earthquake. It has three levels with Corinthian columns in granite, perhaps taken from the Roman Theatre of the city. All the orders are decorated with marble statues of Saint Agatha over the gate, Saint Euplius on the right and Saint Birillus on the left. The main door, in wood, has 32 sculpted plaques with episodes of the life and martyrdom of Saint Agatha, papal coats of arms and symbols of Christianity.
The dome dates from 1802. The bell tower was originally erected in 1387, with a height of some 70 meters. In 1662 a clock was added, the structure reaching 90 meters. After the destruction of 1693 it was rebuilt, with the addition of a 7.5 t bell, the third largest in Italy after those in St. Peter's Basilica and in Milan Cathedral.
The parvise is accessed through a marble façade culminating in a wrought iron .... decorated with 10 bronze statues of saints. The parvise is separated from the cathedral square by a balustrade in white stone, featuring five large statues of saints in Carrara marble.
The cathedral has a Latin cross groundplan, with a nave and two aisles. In the southern aisle are the baptistery and, at the first altar, a canvas of Saint Febronia of Nisibis by Borremans facing, on a pilaster, the tomb of the composer Vincenzo Bellini. Also on a pilaster between this aisle and the nave is the Baroque monument of Bishop Pietro Galletti. Also notable is the Chapel of St. Agatha.
The apse dates back to the original 12th-century construction: it features a medieval mullioned window and a late-16th-century choir by the Neapolitan artist Scipione di Guido. At the end of the north transept is the Chapel of the Holy Crucifix, by Domenico Mazzola (1577). It houses the tombs of members of the Aragonese branch of Sicily, including Kings Frederick III and Louis, John of Randazzo, and Constance.
The northern aisle has several 17th-century paintings of saints, including one by Guglielmo Borremans.

Travelling the backroads of Sicily including OTTOBRATA ZAFFERANESE in 4K
Join us on this tour of the backroads of Sicily where our local guide shows us where to experience the Sicilian life. Our first stop is at THE AUTUMN FESTIVAL IN ZAFFERANA ETNEA. Catania province, Sicily! We then visit 2 wineries before visiting the center of Catania for a short walking tour.
The Ottobata di Zafferana, feast of taste and autumn, is divided into 4 thematic Sundays and is dedicated to the typical products of Etna (ex: grapes, wine, mustard, honey, apples, seasonal fruit (prickly pears, pomegranates, walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, pistachios etc.) Etna porcini mushrooms, oil, olives and preserves in oil..numerous stands where it will be possible to taste the typical local sweets (skiers, zeppole, almond pastries, tea leaves, etc.), liqueurs, wines, honey, nougats and caramelized dried fruit, pistachio ice cream and many other goodies from Sicily. The entire route through the historic center is dedicated to the exhibitions of ancient crafts now on the verge of extinction and the visitor is able to stop and admire the work of wood and lava stone sculptors, painters of Sicilian cart banks, embroiderers, wrought iron workers, puppeteers. We missed seeing the various Slow Food events in the square of the Sicilian Region, during which it is possible, through guided tastings , to taste various typical Sicilian dishes.

Ciao, in attesa che mi sarà possibile tornare a pescare per condividere con voi le mie avventure e catture, ho deciso di portarvi a spasso con me, insieme alle mie fidate videocamere vi porto all'interno di una bocca vulcanica dell'Etna ormai spenta da 800 anni ( circa ).
Il cratere in questione si trova nel Comune di Pedara, in provincia di Catania ed è possibile visitarlo, percorrendo i sentieri che circondano la bocca.
Il percorso naturalistico è abitato da animali di diverso tipo, le più spettacolari sono i falchi, che ahimè, non mi sono venuti a fare compagnia nonostante siano abituati alla presenza dell'uomo. Sarà per la prossima volta.

Mascalucia is an Italian municipality, located in the northern part of the Metropolitan City of Catania, and is physically inserted in the Catania hinterland, of which it represents one of the first crown municipalities.
