Winkelpark De Meent in Papendrecht, The Netherlands
Papendrecht is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, at the crossing of the River Beneden Merwede and the Noord River. The municipality had a population of 32,171 in 2021 and covers an area of 10.79 km2 (4.17 sq mi) of which 1.38 km2 (0.53 sq mi) is water.

Although Papendrecht is first mentioned in documents dating back to 1105, it remained a small settlement until the 1950s. In the 1960s its development accelerated and almost its entire area is now urbanized. It is, however, known for its 180-year-old linden tree by the river.

Vandaag gaan we een tochtje door de wilgendonk en het Land van Matena maken.
Winkelcentrum Wilgendonk
Ligt in het centrum van de wijk Wilgendonk in Papendrecht en is opgeleverd in het najaar van 1991.
Het is tot op heden het enige winkelcentrum in Papendrecht dat ten noorden van de burgemeester Keijzerweg ligt. In de zomer van 2007 heeft het winkelcentrum een flinke opknapbeurt gekregen.
Het winkelcentrum is in zijn geheel overdekt en er parkeren is er nog gratis.
Het hele jaar door organiseert de winkeliersvereniging geregeld activiteiten, zoals een kinderrommelmarkt, proeverijen, optreden van een tamboer, boekenmarkt of een mini-kinderboerderij.
Land van Matena.
Groen en water
Aan de oostzijde van Papendrecht, tegen de grens met Sliedrecht, verrijst de komende jaren een exclusieve woonwijk waarin rust, ruimte en natuur centraal staan. Land van Matena ligt tussen het nieuw ingerichte groengebied langs de Matenasche Scheidkade in Papendrecht en de wijk Baanhoek-West in Sliedrecht. Het woongebied grenst aan de Tiendzone, een bijzonder stuk behouden cultuurhistorie. Groen en water geven je extra woonplezier op deze nieuwbouwlocatie.
Gasloos
In het entreegebied van Land van Matena realiseert Van Wanrooij Projectontwikkeling 39 fraaie woningen. Er komen 12 royale twee onder een kap woningen met garage, 19 zeer ruime rij- en hoekwoningen met 2 verdiepingen. Daarnaast worden er 8 exclusieve herenhuizen gerealiseerd met een woonoppervlakte tot wel 190 m² en 4 woonlagen. Alle woningen worden zonder gasaansluiting en dus all electric uitgevoerd.
Lancaster Monument
Op 21 juli 1944 werd een Lancaster-bommenwerper neergeschoten ten oosten van Papendrecht. Hierbij kwamen de zeven bemanningleden, vijf uit Groot- Brittannië en twee uit Australië, om het leven. Zij liggen begraven op de Algemene Begraafplaats van Papendrecht.
Bij de plaats waar de bommenwerper neerstortte is een monument geplaatst ter herdenking.
Ik heb vanaf het monument tot dat de tocht weer verder gaat geen muziek er bij geplaatst.

Gelukkig moesten medereizigers tegenover de Euromast afgezet worden. Ons avontuurlijke spannende tochtje duurde daarom extra lang.

Papendrecht in vogelvlucht deel 9
Vandaag gaan we wandelen in de parken van Papendrecht
Het Noordhoekse wiel ligt aan de Hoogendijk en is eigendom van de Gemeente Papendrecht. Rond het wiel is een park aangelegd Bij het wiel staat een model watermolen als aandenken van de molen die hier vroeger op de Achterdijk heeft gestaan.
Het Vondelpark
Het rosarium is een bijzonder onderdeel van het Vondelpark. De gemeenteraad van de gemeente Papendrecht heeft in de zomer van 2021 het besluit genomen om de plantvakken in ere te herstellen. Het rosarium wordt duurzaam, aantrekkelijk en onderhoudsvriendelijk.
Het Vijver Park
Het Vijverpark is een park om te flaneren en een park voor (zomerse)
activiteiten als het Vijverparkfeest. Hier loop je een rondje, ga je even
zitten en kijk je naar het water, de fontein en vooral de voorbijgangers.
Het Vijverpark biedt ook een fraai uitzicht voor vele omwonenden.
Het Vijverpark is in haar huidige vorm al goed, maar het effect mag
worden versterkt. Er liggen kansen om meer te doen met het water.
Initiatieven om iets te organiseren met een water-component zouden
bij uitstek in het Vijverpark kunnen plaatsvinden.
Het Oostpolder Park
Park Oostpolder is een echt sportpark en biedt onderdak aan
verenigingen voor voetbal, tennis, korfbal en atletiek. Helaas toont
het park zich niet als zodanig aan de omgeving. Het park moet veel
meer activiteit uitstralen. Dat moet er vanaf spatten! Wanneer men
langs het park fietst of loopt, moet met zien wat er gaande is en
wordt men verleid en verlokt om ook hier te gaan sporten. Er zou
meer samenhang moeten zijn tussen de verschillende sportterreinen
in het park. De verschillende verenigingen zouden meer met elkaar
verweven moeten zijn in één groene setting die sportiviteit uitstraalt
en stimuleert, met oog voor bijzondere natuurwaarden in het park
zoals de orchideeën die er groeien.
Als mogelijk lange termijn toekomstscenario is het denkbaar dit park
nog verder toe te spitsen op sport. Er zou dan wel een aanzienlijke
herstructurering plaats moeten vinden. Het biedt mogelijk kansen
voor de sportverenigingen en het voordeel is dat daarmee ook andere
knelpunten die er nu al zijn kunnen worden opgelost zoals het
verbeteren van de parkeerfaciliteiten.

The name Dordrecht comes from Thuredriht (circa 1120), Thuredrecht (circa 1200). The name seems to mean 'thoroughfare'; a ship-canal or -river through which ships were pulled by rope from one river to another, as here from the Dubbel to the Merwede, or vice versa. Earlier etymologists had assumed that the 'drecht' suffix came from Latin 'trajectum', a ford, but this was rejected in 1996.[9] The Drecht is now supposed to have been derived from 'draeg', which means to pull, tow or drag. Inhabitants of Dordrecht are Dordtenaren (singular: Dordtenaar).
Dordrecht is informally called Dordt by its inhabitants. In earlier centuries, Dordrecht was a major trading port and was called Dort in English
The city was formed along the Thure river, in the midst of peat marshes. This river was a branch of the river Dubbel, which is part of the massive Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta complex, near the current Bagijnhof. Around 1120 reference to Dordrecht was made by a remark that count Dirk IV of Holland was murdered in 1049 near Thuredrech.
Dordrecht was granted city rights by William I, Count of Holland, in 1220, making it the oldest city in the present province of South Holland. In fact, Geertruidenberg was the first city in the historical county of Holland to receive city rights, but this municipality currently is part of the province of North Brabant.
In the 12th and 13th centuries, Dordrecht developed into an important market city because of its strategic location. It traded primarily in wine, wood and cereals. Dordrecht was made even more important when it was given staple right in 1299.
In 1253 a Latin school was founded in Dordrecht. It still exists today as the Johan de Witt Gymnasium [nl] and is the oldest gymnasium in the Netherlands. From 1600 to 1615 Gerhard Johann Vossius was rector at this school.
On 18–19 November 1421, the Saint Elisabeth's flood flooded large parts of southern Holland, causing Dordrecht to become an island. It was commonly said that over 10,000 people died in the flood, but recent research indicates that it was probably less than 200 people.[10]
On 29 June 1457, the city was devastated by a fire which started in Kleine Spuistraat, destroying many buildings, including the Grote Kerk
