Experience Southern Africa's abundant natural treasures in unparalleled comfort and luxury on an A&K Botswana safari. From the floodplains of the Okavango Delta to the woodlands of Chobe National Park, Botswana's diverse habitats provide the perfect settings for extraordinary safari excursions.

On a Botswana safari, encounter the abundant wildlife of the Okavango Delta, the biggest inland delta in the world. Here, the drama of life unfolds at every turn, whether during frequent game drives aboard safari vehicles designed to offer exceptional views or during water safaris by mokoros (dugout canoes) through flooded plains. The Mombo Concession in the Moremi Game Reserve is considered the country's predator capital, and an A&K Botswana safari reveals leopard, cheetah, prides of lion and the endangered African wild dog. Botswana is also home to Africa's largest elephant population. Many A&K Botswana safaris also include opportunities to travel to neighboring Zambia and Zimbabwe to visit the mighty Victoria Falls, a must-see spectacle.

In the evening, retire to the region's most elegant and intimate lodges and camps. Some lodges feature star beds for a night under the shimmering African skies - the perfect way to contemplate nature's breathtaking beauty and the day's discoveries on the Botswana safari.

Botswana - Where Animals Roam Free! | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids

Botswana is a landlocked country located in the south of Africa. For the most part, Botswana is flat with a few hills and around 70% of its land surface is covered with the Kalahari desert.

This country’s history starts more than 100,000 years ago, when the first people populated the region. However, in the past few centuries foreigners controlled it and independence was only secured in 1966. Prior to declaring independence Botswana was known as the British protectorate of Bechuanaland.

One year after they declared independence a huge area of diamonds was discovered at Orapa. Since then Botswana became one of the world’s largest diamond producers and it earns around one billion dollars a year from diamond mining. The official language of the country is English but almost all people speak Setswana and accept the culture.

I recently had the privilege of visiting Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana's Northern Tuli Game Reserve for five nights with my wife, Tabby, and my good friends, Francois and Steph. During that time, we not only visited all four of Mashatu's beautiful camps, but we also explored all of the reserve's most scenic and game-rich areas, including a visit to the world famous Photo Mashatu underground hide.

This is the first episode in a series of five about our adventure in Mashatu Game Reserve and basically gives you an overview of the reserve. I discuss the game viewing opportunities, the landscape and how the seasons differ. By the end of the video, you'll have a great idea of what Mashatu Game Reserve looks like, what you can expect to see there and when you should go on safari.

In the upcoming four videos, episodes 2-5, we visit Mashatu's four camps: Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu, Mashatu Lodge, Mashatu Tent Camp and Mashatu Euphorbia Villas. Those videos also document our adventure, including all our amazing sightings, so I recommend that you watch all five videos in sequence.
