Orumiye lake, Azarbayjan, Iran
Daryâche-ye Orumiye) is an endorheic salt lake in Iran. The lake is located between the provinces of East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan in Iran, and west of the southern portion of the Caspian Sea. At its greatest extent, it was the largest lake in the Middle East and the sixth-largest saltwater lake on Earth, with a surface area of approximately 5,200 km2 (2,000 sq mi), a length of 140 km (87 mi), a width of 55 km (34 mi), and a maximum depth of 16 m (52 ft). The lake has shrunk to 10% of its former size due to damming of the rivers that flow into it, and the pumping of groundwater from the surrounding area.
Its Old Persian name was Chichast, meaning glittering, a reference to the glittering mineral particles suspended in the water of the lake and found along its shores.
Locally, the lake is referred to in Persian as Daryāche-ye Orūmiye (دریاچه ارومیه), and in Kurdish as Zerivar-i Wermi. The traditional Armenian name is Kaputan tsov (Կապուտան ծով), literally blue sea. Residents of Shahi Island refer to the lake in Azerbaijani as Daryā meaning Sea.

Waterfalls are one of the fascinating natural phenomena that attract many enthusiasts. Large and small waterfalls can be seen in most provinces of Iran, but the highest density of this phenomenon can be seen in the northern and western provinces, which are among the Alborz and Zagros mountains. Due to the mountainous and rainy climate, West Azerbaijan province is one of the provinces that has an important position in terms of the number and dimensions of existing waterfalls, and some of the waterfalls of this province, in terms of size and volume of water, have top rankings in the country.
60 km south of Urmia and close to the Turkey border, the white-clad mountains of this region have become the birthplace of one of the beautiful waterfalls of West Azarbaijan province. This waterfall, known as Soleh Dokal, is located near a village of the same name. Access to the waterfall is not difficult and can be reached with a short walk.
Soleh Dokal is not in the category of high waterfalls. However, due to the considerable volume of water and its greatness, it has been noticed by many people and many people enter this area to visit it. Soleh Dokal is actually a large river that enters a gorge with a high slope and low width at a point of its movement and creates a large and roaring waterfall.
The best time to visit this waterfall is late spring, when this area is at the peak of its beauty. The vegetation around the waterfall is not full of trees and is mostly in the form of green pastures and full of colorful flowers.

Lake Urmia دریاچه ارومیه is an endorheic salt lake in Iran. By late 2017, the lake had shrunk to 10% of its former size (and 1/60 of water volume in 1998) due to persistent general drought in Iran, but also the damming of the local rivers that flow into it, and the pumping of groundwater from the surrounding area. This dry spell was broken in 2019 and the lake is now filling up once again. The recovery of the lake has continued in 2020 due to above average precipitation and the actions of the Lake Urmia Restoration Program.
Lake Urmia, along with its approximately 102 islands, is protected as a national park by the Iranian Department of Environment.

Urmia, the Capital of West Azerbaijan Province
Urmia is the second largest city in South Azerbaijan, largest city in West Azerbaijan Province of Iran and the capital of Urmia County. It is situated at an altitude of 1,330 metres above sea level, and is located along the Shahar River on the Urmia Plain. Lake Urmia, one of the world's largest salt lakes, lies to the east of the city, and the border area with Turkey lies to the west.
Urmia is the 10th-most populous city in Iran. The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 736,224 people. The majority of the city's residents are Azerbaijanis, with a large minority of Kurds, and a smaller number of Assyrians, and Armenians, as well as Persian-speakers who moved to the city mostly for employment.
The city is the trading center for a fertile agricultural region where fruits, especially apples and grapes, and tobacco are grown. Even though the majority of the residents of Urmia are Muslims, the Christian history of Urmia is well preserved and is especially evident in the city's many churches and cathedrals.
An important town by the 9th century, the city has had a diverse population.
The majority of the population can speak the official language of Iran, Persian, in addition to their own native tongue.
Parks and touristic centres
The tourist attractions of the city of Urmia include many parks and coastal villages lying on or near the shores of Lake Urmia. The oldest park in Urmia, called Park-e Saat, was established in the first Pahlavi era. Urmia's largest park is Ellar Bagi Park (Azerbaijani People's Garden) along the Shahar Chayi, or the City River.
Climate
Urmia's climate is cold semi-arid climate, bordering on humid continental climate, with cold winters, mild springs, hot dry summers, and cool autumns. Precipitation is heavily concentrated in late autumn, winter (mostly in the form of snow), and especially spring, while precipitation is scarce in summer. Temperatures in Urmia are much colder than most of the remainder of Iran. The drought of Urmia Lake will have a negative impact on the climate of the region.
Culture
Azerbaijanis hold festivals and ceremonies such as Nowruz and Eid al-Adha like other Iranian ethnic groups with small differences. Ashik music is one of the features of the Turkish speaking people of the world. It has different versions in Iran. Meanwhile, as many experts of this art testify the Urmia Ashik, is the most original and oldest version in the world, which has preserved its origin until the present day. Ashik music has its unique styles. As a piece of the culture of Azerbaijan, Urmia Ashik music has been registered in Iran's national heritage.

Today, Urmia has become an important centre of education, with several state and private universities and institutes.

Urmia has one state-owned television channel, Urmia TV, which broadcasts in both Azerbaijani, and Persian, and internationally through satellite Intelsat 902.
Urmia has one radio channel broadcasting in Kurdish, Azerbaijani and Persian. The name of the local radio is Chichest.
Transportation
Most of Urmia's residents travel by car through the system of roads and highways. Urmia is also served by taxis and public buses. There are also some private groups that provide services called Phone-taxi. Two Tram-lines for Urmia are planned.
Urmia is linked to Europe through Turkey's roads and Sero border crossing.
Urmia Airport, which opened in 1964, was the first international airport in West Azerbaijan county, Iran. As of April 2015 it only has regularly scheduled domestic flights to Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport, although there are plans to establish a direct flight between Urmia and Erbil, due to the large number of passengers travelling between the two cities. The city is recently connected to Iran National Railroads.
Healthcare
The Iranian government operates public hospitals in the Urmia metropolitan region. There are also a number of private hospitals and medical centers in the city.
Sports
Sports are an important part of Urmia's culture. The most popular sport in Urmia is volleyball. Urmia is considered Iran's volleyball capital.

In diesem Video starten wir mit unserem Mercedes Vario 4x4 noch auf der armenischen Seite und fahren dann über die Grenze in den Iran. Zuerst geht es zur Stadt Khoy, wo wir uns mit Geld und SIM Karte eindecken. Dann fahren wir zum wunderschönen Salzsee Urmia. Von dort ist es nicht mehr weit bis zur Stadt Tabriz, bekannt für seinen riesigen Basar. Wir sind schwer beeindruckt von der Freundlichkeit der Menschen gerade in diesen schwierigen Zeiten im Iran. Natürlich müssen wir auch mal Diesel tanken, aber das ist im Iran gar nicht so leicht.
In this video we start with our Mercedes Vario 4x4 on the Armenian side and cross the border into Iran. First we visit Khoy city, where we get money and a SIM card. Then we drive to the amazing salt lake Urmia. From there it is not far away to Tabriz city, well known for its huge basar. We are deeply impressed by the hospitality of the people, especially in these challenging times in Iran. Of course we need diesel from time to time, but this is not so easy to get.

HOW TO GET THERE:
Yes.. you can take a bus.
People will insist on taking a taxi from Tabriz. But, you can definitely take a public bus from Rahahan bus station in Tabriz towards Urmia (the town), and ask the driver to drop you off anywhere before the bridge or once you see the salt lake.
Our bus driver dropped us in the middle of the bridge, where people can enjoy swimming and duck-shaped water bicycle, but there's no saltlake there. So, we hitchhiked back.

Golmarz Wetlands in Urmia, One of Most Important Habitats for Breeding of White-Headed Ducks moreover Golmarz Wetland is one of the beautiful manifestations of nature in Urmia, West Azerbaijan, Iran. There are several Unesco world heritage sites nearby.
The White-headed Duck belongs to the order of Anseriformes and the family of Anatida, with the scientific name of Oxyura leucocephala (Figure No.1). This duck is listed as an endangered species on Red List by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The global distribution of white-headed ducks is limited to the western Palearctic region. It is distributed from Spain and Morocco in western Europe to western China and western Mongolia, and in the north of Iran to southern Russia.

Golmarz Wetland, Iran’s less-known beauty:
Located near Urmia city in West Azarbaijan Province, Golmarz Village is one of the less-known tourist attractions of the region.
This village has a very beautiful and spectacular wetland which is known as Golmarz wetland or Golmarz catchment. With wild goose birds and ducks, the beauty of the wetland is doubled.
Spring and summer are the best time to visit the wetland which is fourteen meters deep and hosts fish such as carp and trout.

بهشت های کوچک و زیادی همین نزدیکی ها وجود دارد که کمتر کسی با آنها آشناست, یکی از آنها تالابی کوچک و آرام در نزدیکی ارومیه است که بنام تالاب گلمرز شناخته می شود. در نزدیکی روستای گلمرز دریاچه های بسیار زیبایی وجود دارد که عمق بزرگترین دریاجه آن حدود ۱۴ متر و مساحت آن بالغ بر دو هکتار است. این تالاب، به عنوان یکی از زیباترین مناطق ایران شناخته شده است.
روستای گلمرز یکی از روستا های نام آشنای توابع شهر ارومیه است، که در دهستان باش قلعه قرار گرفته است. این روستا داری تالاب بسیار زیبا و دیدنی است که به تالاب گلمرز یا آبگیر گلمرز معروف است.
برکه روستای گلمرز یکی از جلوه های زیبای طبیعت ارومیه به شمار می رود، که دیدن مناظر آن به ویژه در بهار و تابستان خالی از لطف نیست. این برکه چهارده متر عمق دارد و ماهی هایی مثل کپور و قزل آلا در آن زندگی می کنند.
این تالاب، به عنوان یکی از زیباترین مناطق ایران شناخته شده است که البته بدلیل ناشناخته ماندن، گردشگران کمتری را بخود جذب کرده است.

مسیر دسترسی
از دو مسیر میتوان به این تالاب رسید؛ یکی از خاتم الانبیا مسیر ترمینال به ابوذر بعد از حاجی پیرلو جاده قدیم توپراق قلعه که مستقیم به این تالاب می رسد (از طرف ترمینال بزرگراه خاتم‌الانبیا ،نرسیده به پل ابوذر، فرعی از داخل توپراق قلعه)؛ یکی هم اول کلانتری جاده دریا ورودی اصلی روستای تپراق قلعه.
آبگیر زیبای ارومیه
تالاب گلمرز، یکی از تالاب‌های ایران است، که در روستای گلمرز از توابع شهر ارومیه قرار دارد. روستای گلمرز یکی از روستاهای بخش دهستان باش قلعه بوده، که دارای چشمه‌ها و تالاب‌های بزرگ و کوچکی است. هر یک از این تالاب‌ها جلوه بی نظیری به طبیعت دست نخورده این روستا بخشیده است. این تالاب نام خود را از روستای گلمرز گرفته است و با نام برکه یا آبگیر گلمرز مشهور شده است. در این متن به معرفی تالاب، مسیر دسترسی، بهترین فصل سفر، آدرس، جاذبه‌های دیدنی نزدیک، زیست بوم منطقه، مسیر روستایی، آب و هوای منطقه و لوکیشن تالاب گلمرز ارومیه می‌پردازیم.
زیبایی‌های تالاب گلمرز ارومیه
آبگیر یا تالاب گلمرز یکی از جاذبه‌های بسیار زیبای نزدیک شهر ارومیه است. در کنار این تالاب چندین تالاب کوچک و بزرگ دیگر نیز به چشم می‌خورد که بزرگترین آنها آبگیر گلمرز است. مساحت این تالاب ۲ هکتار بوده و عمق آن به ۱۴ متر می‌رسد. طبیعت اطراف این تالاب به جذابیت این منطقه افزوده است. هرساله طبیعت‌گردان بسیاری برای دیدن این زیبایی به این منطقه می‌آیند.
مسیر دسترسی به تالاب گلمرز ارومیه
برای رسیدن به تالاب گلمرز ارومیه دو مسیر دسترسی وجود دارد. با استفاده از هریک از این رو مسیرهای پیشنهادی می‌توانید به راحتی به این تالاب برسید. این دو مسیر عبارت‌اند از:

شهر ارومیه – جاده خاتم الانبیا مسیر ترمینال به ابوذر – نرسیده به پل ابوذر – بعد از جاده قدیم حاجی پیرلو – جاده قدیم (فرعی) توپراق قلعه – بعد از تکالو – تالاب گلمرز ارومیه
مسیر شماره ۲:
ارومیه – جاده دریا – بزرگراه خاتم الانبیا – خیابان المهدی – بعد از ریحان آباد نرسیده به روستای حاجیلو –ورودی به سمت تالاب گلمرز ارومیه
