TOP 10 WATERFALLS TO VISIT IN OREGON - 4K TRAVEL GUIDE

Oregon waterfalls were the theme of what to visit and where to travel to in Oregon this year, and it. was. epic. We traveled all across Oregon, and spent 10 weekends, 2000+ miles driven to create the best waterfall guide of Oregon that the internet has ever seen... at least that was the hope lol ;)

I grew up on The Oregon Coast north of Cannon Beach and south of Astoria in one of the best beach towns of Seaside, Oregon. I will travel to Oregon for the rest of my life, and I know I will experience new things every time. This 4K travel guide is an overview of my top 10 Waterfalls that are worth visiting in Oregon, so make some notes, and get out there and enjoy!

ONEONTA GORGE | River Walkway to Raging Waterfall of Oregon

The Oneonta Gorge is a scenic gorge located in the Columbia River Gorge area east of Portland, Oregon. With 4 surrounding waterfalls, the Lower Oneonta Falls (most spectacular of the falls) has been preserved as a natural habitat, so there is no trail or footpath. The only way to see it is by walking a mile upstream in knee/chest-high water on very rocky terrain and over a massive log-jam at the base on the creek.

We were also lucky enough to be at the waterfall during the 2017 total solar eclipse that began it's United States trail of totality in Oregon. It went from day to night, leaving us in total darkness for a few minutes at the base of the waterfall. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.

10 Must-Chase Waterfalls in Columbia River Gorge, Oregon (plus more)! #oregon #waterfalls #hiking

Full list of must-chase waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge below ⤵️

Let me preface this by saying: there are SO many waterfalls here - endless waterfalls!

With that being said, here are 10+ of my personal favorites…

🔖 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴

💦Wahclella Falls
•2 miles (RT) & rated easy. It’s one of my personal favorites and is the first falls showcased in this reel!

💦Multnomah Falls & Wahkeena Falls (Plus Dutchman Falls, Ecola Falls, Weisendanger and Fairy Falls)
•To do the full loop trail (hitting all the falls) it’s 5.1 miles with ~1600ft elevation gain and rated moderate.
•If you choose to forgo the longer loop hike, you can still walk along the easy paved pathway to Multnomah Falls from the parking lot.
•Then, you can also view Wahkeena falls from a separate, short trail.

💦Eagle Creek Trail (Punchbowl Falls, Tunnel Falls, Twister falls + SO many more!)
•Let me start by saying … this is “one of the most storied day trips in the Pacific Northwest” and absolutely lives up to its hype!
•To hike to the famed ✨Tunnel Falls✨ - which is my all time favorite on this entire list - it’s about a 13 to 14 mile trek (depending how many side-trails you take to other falls). We clocked our elevation gain at around 2,000ft and would rate it moderate.
•Twister Falls is about another 0.5-0.7 mile past Tunnel Falls (added 1-1.4 miles in total).
•Don’t feel like doing the full trek / are unable to: hike 4.8 miles (RT) to Punchbowl Falls on this trail.
•In total, you can see 8 major waterfalls on this trail (and then some)!

💦Bridal Veil Falls
•A very easy, 0.5 mile (RT) hike to see this beauty!

💦LaTourell Falls
•A 2 mile loop with about 700 ft elevation gain and rated moderate on AllTrails.

💦Dry Creek Falls
•4.4 miles (RT) with ~850ft elevation gain and rated easy.

💦Horsetail Falls & Ponytail Falls
•An easy, 0.9 mile (RT) trail with ~300ft elevation gain.

❓Which one you eyeing up most? Tunnel Falls and Wahclella may be my personal favorites!

This is Oneonta New York!

Join me as I take virtual tour of the history of Oneonta with the Greater Oneonta Historical Society, Executive Director, Bob Brzozowski.  Learn with me how family names like Huntington, Fairchild and Harlow Bundy of IBM are related to the history of Oneonta.  How Oneonta played an important part in the development of the railroad system. That and so much more.

From my grandparents' home movies, a short segment showing a large Oneonta Depart(ment Store) sign and walking downtown.

Oneonta Gorge in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon #shorts

Returning to Lower Oneonta Falls is like embarking on an exciting adventure. For those intrepid who are willing to take on challenges, such as climbing an impasse and wading through exhilarating chest-deep waters, the rewards are truly grand.

Despite the obstacles, this area is very popular, so it is advisable to arrive early to make the most of this unique experience. The only way to reach these impressive waterfalls, situated at the top of a gorge, is to trek upstream between the majestic vertical walls of the Oneonta Gorge. The creek turns into your trail, and this journey was made even more challenging after a rockfall in the 1990s that created an impasse later blocked by rocks.
