The BEST of Whidbey Island | Day Trip to Washington's Largest Island
Today we explore Whidbey Island which is in the Northwest corner of Washington about 1 hour north of Seattle. It is the largest island in the state and we have a very full day planned to hit a lot of the highlights.
We start out with Deception Pass State Park which is one of 6 state parks on the island and is around 4,000 acres. There are a bunch of hiking trails and we plan to hike the Rosario Head Trail to Lighthouse Point. The trail follows along beaches and cliffs, and offers awesome views of the Deception Pass Bridge. The bridge is actually one of the most photographed spots in all of Washington. It spans around 1,500 feet and connects the north side of Whidbey Island with the mainland.
After our hike, we make our way over the Deception Pass Bridge and head south to Coupeville. Founded in 1852, Coupeville is the oldest town on Whidbey Island and the second oldest town in all of Washington state. It is situated on Penn Cove which is known for mussels. We pick up take out from Toby’s Tavern and head to a nearby park to enjoy. We get fish and chips and of course, a pound of Penn Cove mussels, all of which is delicious!
After lunch, we walk around Coupeville a bit. It is a quaint, small town with a lot of charm! There are historic 19th-century buildings that now house specialty shops, restaurants, and art galleries. We head out onto Coupeville Wharf which is a 110+ year old wharf warehouse and dock that gives a great view of the town and Penn Cove.
Next up, it's time for some dessert! We head to Greenbank Farm which boasts art galleries, a winery, cheese shop, gardens and trails. It is also home to Whidbey Pies & Cafe which makes nearly every type of pie you can imagine. We settle on loganberry which is a mix between a raspberry and blackberry.
Our next stop is Ebey’s Landing which is the first National Historical Reserve in the US. There are numerous historic barns, homes, and blockhouses dating back to the mid-1800s throughout the reserve. We hike the Bluff Trail which is around 5 miles and is apparently one of the top things to do on Whidbey Island. The trail ascends from the parking lot and climbs along a ridge with amazing views of the beach below. At the halfway point, we drop down to the beach and make our way back along the shore.
We end our day at Fort Casey State Park. The park used to be home to one of three artillery posts positioned around Admiralty Inlet that protected the Puget Sound in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is also home to the Admiralty Head Lighthouse where we watch an amazing sunset to close out the day!

In today’s video, we are going to talk about places to visit in Washington State. One of the places in this video is a natural playground, and another gives you the opportunity of an open mic night. Lake Chelan is a place for golf, and if you desire to know the type of meals to eat in each of our selected places, you will have to watch to the end. Book lovers are not left out. You would get the chance of a reading experience in one of our selected destinations. Welcome and Let’s get started.
10. Seattle
The city’s famous landmark is Pike Place Market, where visitors can find vendors selling commodities from fresh fish to locally made crafts. Explore Fremont’s public sculpture, stroll through Olympic Sculpture Park, tour the Frye Art Museum, wander the rows at the Seattle Rose Garden, and stop by an open mic night at the popular Hugo house. For great views of Seattle and its surrounding bays, climb 550 feet to the observation deck of the Space Needle.
9. Olympic Peninsula
The Olympic Peninsula is a natural playground that attracts outdoor enthusiasts year-round. Taste your way along the Olympic Pennisula, trying different food from local oysters to Dungeness crab and Geoducks. Experience the Olympic National Park and its three distinct ecosystems. Wander the epic beaches, and sample seafood such as local oysters and Dungeness crab. Take in sweeping views at Hurricane Ridge, and don’t forget to enjoy the pristine waters of Lake Crescent.
8. North Cascades Highway
Travelers are allowed to experience the mountains and waterfalls. For those searching for more adventure, there are opportunities for hiking and fishing. Discover over 4,000 native species of plants and animals with the aid of a guide from the Greater Leavenworth Museum. Take time to visit the North Cascade National Park and keep an eye on mountain goats, lynxes, moose, and elk.
7. Lake Chelan
Traveling to vineyards is a major attraction in this area. Experience sightseeing and sipping at locations like Vin du Lac Winery, Karma Vineyards, or Mellisoni Vineyards. Experience the natural terrain, ride on a seaplane that heads to the lake itself, enjoy the Orchards at Chelan Valley Farms, and don’t forget a water-skiing experience during the summer months.
If you do not want a water ride to view the beauty of Lake Chelan, you can go on a Helicopter tour and enjoy an aerial view through Lake Chelan Helicopters.
6. Columbia River Gorge
Drive through the historic Columbia River Highway and enjoy the 70-mile journey while admiring Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Lock and Dam, and the Bridge of the Gods. Head to Crown Point and Vista House for a great view of the Columbia river.
If you have ever desired to watch Salmon swim upstream, Bonneville Hatchery is the place to be.

Explore the Riverfront Park, and stroll along the banks of the scenic Spokane River. Make sure you visit the Avista stadium to watch baseball games and a stop at Manito Park is a great way to experience the natural garden. Some of the city’s top sites include the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, John A. Finch Arboretum, and Spokane Falls. You can also check out some of the city’s golf courses or take a tasting tour through the breweries.
4. Snoqualmie Falls
Halfway between the towns of Fall City and Snoqualmie is Snoqualmie Falls. Experience the rushing waters of the falls and take pictures in the Pacific Northwest. Relax at Snoqualmie Point Park, have a reading experience at Snoqualmie Psychic Readings by Monique, hop aboard history at the Northwest Railway Museum, Hike at Rattlesnake Mountain, Ski at The Summit at Snoqualmie.,
3. The San Juan Islands
The San Juan Islands is an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Grab a cup at Salty Fox Coffee, Soak in the panoramic ocean and mountain view with a visit to Cattle Point Lighthouse, and head to Roche Harbor for a harborside lunch. Remember to take tours to spot Orca Whales in their habitats, dine on fresh seafood, and hike through the San Juan Island National Historical Park.
2. Mount St. Helens
Visits the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake, and get a brief history of the area and the 1980 eruption. You can head to the Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center for dining options and experience the view of the volcano. See wildflowers at Loowit Viewpoint and stop at Elk Rock Viewpoint to see the blast Zone.

In the Paradise section of the park, visitors can experience fields of colorful wildflowers and hiking trails. In the Sunrise section, make sure you drive to the highest vantage point for spectacular views. Glacier climbing and Mountaineering are two recreation options in the park, but Mount Rainier offers easier hikes.

This video is our final edition to the Whidbey Island Washington series. For the past five months we enjoyed staying here. During the winter months it can be challenging for RVer's . The weather on the Island at times with gale force winds, an occasional power outage that last for better part of the day or night. The rain is also been a challenge. But overall it's an amazing Island with lots to explore and see. We hope you have enjoyed our videos from Whidbey Island and hope you hit the like button and hope you subscribe to our channel.
