Zacharias Topelius, (born Jan. 14, 1818, Kuddnäs, Nykarleby in Russian occupied Finland. Died March 12, 1898, Helsinki), the father of the Finnish historical novel. His works, written in Swedish, are classics of Finland’s national literature.
Topelius joined the faculty of the University of Helsinki as professor of Finnish history in 1864; he served as university president, 1875–78. Though he published five collections of lyrics, he is best known for Fältskärns berättelser (1853–67; The King’s Ring and the Surgeon’s Stories, 1872), a romanticized account of Swedish–Finnish history during the 17th and 18th centuries. In later years he wrote stories based on Finnish folktales and fairy tales for children.

JUTHBACKAMARKKINAT UUSIKAARLEPYY-JUTHBACKAMARKNADEN- NYKARLEBY
Markkinat pidetään joka vuosi elokuun toiseksi viimeisenä viikonloppuna perjantaiaamusta lauantaihin klo 16. Markkinapaikka on Juthbackan kartanon alue.
Markkinat saivat alkunsa v. 1979 veteraaniajoneuvoharrastajien kokoontumisella ja niistä on kehittynyt maan suurin kirpputori 30 000 kävijöineen.
Marknaden hålls varje år näst sista helgen i augusti från fredag morgon till lördag kl 16. Marknadsplats är området runt Juthbacka herrgård.
Marknaden fick sin början 1979 med en samling för veteranfordonsentusiaster och har utvecklats till landets största loppmarknad med 30 000 besökare.
Return to Munsala, Finland 2013
After visiting in 2006, I returned in 2013 for another short visit to Munsala in the Jakobstad region of western Finland.
This time was spent out on the water relaxing and taking in some nice evening skyscapes. Also watched a few fireworks at the end of the night.

Beskrivning
Korsnäs kyrka är en av de korskyrkor i trä som ritades på intendentskontoret i början av 1800-talet och byggdes under ledning av den kända österbottniska kyrkobyggarsläkten Kuorikoski. I miljön kring kyrkan ingår den samtidigt uppförda prästgården med ekonomibyggnader. Korsnäs kyrka och prästgård utgör en enhetlig bebyggd kyrkomiljö som bevarats intakt.
Korsnäs likarmade korskyrka i trä har byggts år 1831 under ledning av Heikki Kuorikoski. Till sitt yttre präglas församlingens i ordningen tredje kyrka av attikan som reser sig över korscentret och kröns av ett torn. Altaret och altartavlan har en ovanlig placering mitt i kyrkan. Invid kyrkan står en fristående klockstapel från år 1757. Stapeln fick sitt nuvarande nyklassicistiska yttre i samband med en flyttning cirka 1860.
Till kyrkomiljön hör också ett sockenmagasin och en före detta prästgård uppförd år 1831. Byggnaden som omges av en lummig park tjänar numera som prästgårdsmuseum och på gården står en gammal drängstuga, ett loft, en bastu och en väderkvarn.
Historia
Korsnäs bönehusförsamling omnämns redan på medeltiden. Den anslöts till Närpes år 1604. Korsnäs församling hörde till Närpes ända fram till år 1887.
Korsnäs kyrka och prästgård uppfördes samtidigt på 1830-talet. För ritningarna till kyrkan svarade C. L. Engel och A. W. Arppe på intendentskontoret. Efter att kyrkoherden flyttat bort från prästgården restaurerades byggnaden 1982 till ett museum, som beskriver det tidiga 1900-talets prästgårdskultur.
