MERIDA, MEXICO | 8 Incredible Things To Do In & Around Mérida
Mérida, Mexico is located in the northwest of the beautiful Yucatan State. It’s the state capital and widely known as the safest city in Mexico. But what attracts most visitors is its thriving food and cultural scene. With an interesting mix of Mayan and colonial culture, Mérida is encircled by ancient temples, sacred cenotes, and colorful streets with colonial mansions.
Here are our top 8 things you SHOULD do in Mérida, Mexico.
8. Walk the Paseo de Montejo
Home to some of the most beautiful and iconic buildings of the city, the Paseo de Montejo is a great place for an afternoon stroll.
7. Try the local Yucatecan cuisine
Trying the local Yucatecan cuisine is an absolute must when in Mérida! Food is a big part of the city’s culture, bringing together Mayan, Spanish, and Lebanese influences. In the center, you can find many great restaurants that serve traditional dishes.
6. Explore nearby Izamal
The small town of Izamal is about 70km or 43 miles away from Mérida, making for a great day trip. There’s a collectivo on the corner of Calle 50 and 63 which takes you from the center of Merida to the heart of Izamal in less than 1 and a half hours. Most of the buildings in the downtown area are painted yellow, giving the city a distinct bright feeling.
5. Swim in the nearby cenotes
Mérida can get very hot during the day. So one great way to cool off is to visit a nearby cenote! There are tons of beautiful cenotes around the city. Some are easily reachable by bus and others are more hidden, requiring a rental car to get there. Do your research before you visit as some can get very crowded.
4. Mérida's Historic Center (Free walking tour)
The 4th best thing to do in Mérida is to explore the Historic Center. With many colorful homes, beautiful colonial architecture, churches, and cute parks, this part of the city never bores. The streets are clean, well-maintained, and filled with restaurants, shops, and entertainment. The best way to learn about the city is to go on a free walking tour.
☑️ Merida Free Walking Tour:
3. Day trip to Celestún
Located along the coast, Celestún is another great day trip destination. It’s about 100 km or 62 miles from Mérida and it takes around 2 hours to get there by bus. Here, you’ll find the Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve, which is home to flamingos, crocodiles, and many other birds. As many as 35,000 flamingos live here from November to February. But besides the flamingos, Celestun also has a gorgeous beach for relaxing and swimming.
☑️ Book Celestún Boat Tour from Mérida:
2. Enjoy Mérida's cultural performances
The thing we loved the most about the city of Mérida was its evening entertainment. There’s always something going on every night of the week. The city’s streets and plazas come to life with cultural performances, concerts, and dances that are free and open to the public.
1. Visit the Uxmal Ruins
At number one, we have one of the best archeological sites in Mexico: the Uxmal Ruins. Located 85 km or 53 miles to the south of Mérida, Uxmal is an important Mayan City and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
☑️ Book Uxmal Day Tour:

But is San Carlos the most INCREDIBLE BEACH TOWN in Mexico?

Sonora is a vast state, full of desert, hills, mountains and amazing Mexican food (comida mexicana) such as Carne Asada, Cahuamanta, a drink called Bacanora (coming in a future video) and so much more. San Carlos itself is tranquil and feels somewhat undiscovered, despite being home to many expats or those who have embarked on the journey of moving to Mexico.
You’ll find many things to do in San Carlos, such as Cerro Tetakawi, a monstrous volcanic hill overlooking the sea, the Vista Point which is National Geographic’s recommended ‘top ocean view in the WORLD’, numerous beaches including Los Algodones, hiking in various canyons, tourist and local restaurants, and a multitude of activities.

Top 10 Coolest Places to Visit in Mexico (You Don't Want to Miss This!)
In today’s video I will be sharing with you the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico to build your Mexico Vacation Guide 2021. I spent the past 2 months traveling around the incredible country of Mexico, visiting amazing beaches, charming cities, and some incredible off the beaten path destinations. I found it incredibly difficult to narrow down a Mexico Top 10 list.
To start off the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico, I take you to the beautiful colonial town of San Miguel de Allende. San Miguel is full of beautiful cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and of course the famous Parroquia church! This church is absolutely stunning and reminded me a lot of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona!
Next up on the list for the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico is taking us to Puerto Escondido in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Puerto Escondido is a popular destination to experience an epic surf scene, swim at some incredible beaches, and indulge in delicious Oaxacan food. There are 7 beaches spread throughout Puerto Escondido, with the biggest beach, Playa Zicatela, hosting some of the biggest surf competitions in the entire world.
After Puerto Escondido, the next place on your Mexico vacation guide for 2021 should be to visit the charming city of San Cristobal de las Casas. San Cristobal is famous for its colorful streets, unique art scene, delicious coffee, and Mayan influenced markets. Walking through San Cristobal is like walking around a colonial paradise.
Next up on the 10 best things to do in Mexico is to experience a Lucha Libre show. Lucha Libre is essentially Mexican wrestling, but is also a traditional form of entertainment. I saw a Lucha Libre match in Guadalajara but there are tons of places all around Mexico to experience the magic that is Lucha Libre.
Number 6 on my list of the 10 best places to visit in Mexico is taking us to the Roberto Barrios Waterfalls. The Roberto Barrios waterfalls are located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico and completely took me by surprise. There are multiple waterfalls with tons of beautiful pools to swim in, surrounded by endless tall green trees making you feel like you are swimming in the middle of a jungle.
Any list of the best places to visit in Mexico must include the incredible Palenque Ruins. The Palenque Ruins are also located in Chiapas, Mexico and are some of the most important Mayan ruins in the entire world. However, unlike Chichen Itza in Yucatan Mexico and Tikal in Guatemala, you can visit these ancient Mayan ruins without all of the crowds.
Next on the list for the coolest places to visit in Mexico is taking us to the small coastal towns of San Pancho (San Francisco) and Lo de Marcos, located on the Pacific Coast in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. These towns are completely off the tourist track and are host to unspoiled white sand beaches and quaint towns to spend a few days relaxing in paradise.
Any Top 10 things to do in Mexico list must include a visit to Mexico City. There is so much to do in Mexico City but some of my favorite places are Zocalo square, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Bosque de Chapultepec (Mexico City Central Park), Mariachi Plaza, Roma Norte, and the Polanco neighborhood.
Next up on your Mexico Travel Guide 2021 is visiting my favorite beach town in Mexico, Sayulita. Sayulita is located about 1 hour north of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit. Sayulita is a pueblo magico (magical town) and is home to colorful cobblestone roads and tons of beaches perfect for surfing or relaxing.
Last up on our list for the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico is to visit the city of Guanajuato. Guanajuato is the most beautiful place in Mexico and is full of narrow alleyways, colorful buildings, and beautiful churches. Guanajuato reminded me a lot of visiting a charming European city. Visiting Guanajuato is an absolute must in Mexico.
I hope you enjoyed the video and now know where to go in Mexico for your next trip!

???????? CHIHUAHUA in 4K | Let's Walk AROUND the CITY! | Walkaround Chihuahua Centro | MEXICO TRAVEL 2022
???????? CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO - Welcome to another Mexico Travel video! This video is a combination of my regular style of travel vlog and my 4K Walkaround videos. I was in Chihuahua and Ciudad Cuauhtémoc in 2021 but my trip was cut short by illness and the time remaining on my 180 days so I'm back to explore Chihuahua in more detail, including Parral, Delicias, Creel, and Camargo.
In this video you will have 30 minute walk from outside the central area, through Centro, ending at the Angel monument, on the way highlighting some of the things to do in Chihuahua. What do you think Chihuahua is like? Is it another northern Mexico city full of modern buildings and no colonial architecture? Is it clean or dirty? Is it a place you would consider if you are an expat in Mexico or are thinking of moving to Mexico, instead of more popular locations such as Guanajuato or San Miguel de Allende?
If you're thinking of traveling Mexico, or coming for a short trip or vacation, or wanting to know where to visit in Mexico in 2022, my channel is more focused (nowadays) on northern Mexico and lesser-known destinations, presented in an overly straight-forward and sarcastic style. Enjoy!
