ENCHANTED FOREST - America's most UNIQUE theme park!

#enchantedforest #oregonthemepark #uniquetheme park
Enchanted Forest is located in the litteral forrest of Salem, Oregon. Enchanted Forest is the quirkiest most unique theme park we have ever been to. Enchanted Forest was the idea and creation of one man, Roger Tofte. He sketched out his dream of a magical theme park and then built it with the help of some volunteers, one bag of cement at a time. It took about 7 years and Enchanted Forest opened in 1971. The first section of Enchanted forest to open was Storybook Lane. Storybook Lane transports guests to the nursery rhymes of their childhood. Built in an actuall forest gives this litte theme park the most whimsical feel. All of the classics are there...Alice in Wonderland, We chased the little white rabbit through his rabbit hole. We slid down the Women Who Lived in a Shoe Slide, There was the Hansel and Gretel With House, Jack and Jill, Snow White and the Seven Drawfs and our favorite...The Witches Castle where you enter through her mouth and slide out her hair. After walking through Storybook Lane it was time to enter the Haunted House, which the exteriror looks just like the house from Thriller. The haunted house was full of silly animatronics and air horn scares. It was such a good time. It was then time to ride rides. Enchanted Forest is full of fun little kitty rides, but there are three must ride while you are here. First up being their log ride. It may be the longest log flume ride ever, or at least the longest we have ever been on. The ride takes you up into the tree's and then after a long relaxing float down the river, it drops you 40 ft. And spoiler alert, you may get a little wet. Next up is the Ice Mountain Bobsled Roller Coaster that starts 100 feet up in the air and has 1,600 feet of track. It feels like you are in a real bobsled. And lastly there is the Challange of Modor. This is a shooting target game that moves. The ride opperators hand out and award metals for the days high scores. Enchated Forest has a Wild West town with and old fashion shooting gallery, There is a fairytale like European town with Geapetos workshop and a indoor fountain light show that goes off every 15 minutes. Plus their is live entertainmen. We got to see a pirate sing a long show and we also got to see a musical play of Snow White and the Seven Dorks. This quirky whimsical place was so much fun we created so many family memories

Garden of gas station signs/ Whiteland, Indiana

While we were out looking for a defunct cemetery for a possible Halloween video we came across a corner of Whiteland, Indiana that seemed to be reserved for antique gas station signs. We asked a local for any information he had, unfortunately he knew nothing.
A few hours later, while we were on our way back to the truck, we stopped in at a business, Just lift it and managed to get a little information.
A couple of days later I did find a website and a newspaper article.
If you like things from a bygone era this place is for you!
If your in a truck, be prepared for a little bit of a walk. You can park at the Loves on I-65 exit 123 and make the 1 1/2 mile walk.

A DRIVE THRU WHITESBORO NEW JERSEY - HISTORIC AFRICAN AMERICAN NJ SHORE TOWN - READ DESCRIPTION -

Whitesboro, New Jersey was established in 1902 as a town exclusively for African Americans. The idea came in response to increasing white resistance to black residents in Cape May County, New Jersey. The African-American Equitable Industrial Association, founded by Reverend J.W. Fishburn and four other members of Cape May City’s AME Zion Church, purchased the land in an effort inspired by the self-help philosophy of Booker T. Washington. With help of many investors from the South, most notably the George H. White Land Improvement Company, the Association purchased 2,000 acres of land approximately ten miles north of Cape May City for $14,000.

In December of 1901, four months after the purchase was finalized, advertisements began appearing for the sale of the lots in magazines such as Colored American. Prospective colonists had to be of good character, and in the spirit of Washington needed to possess steady and industrious habits. Once approved, a colonist would receive a number of lots, each 50 feet by 150 feet (about a sixth of an acre) for a down payment of $5 per lot and a promise to till the land.

The residents were under no obligation to build a home or any other structure on their lot, but the land was promised to be good for growing farm produce and raising chickens, so building homes was encouraged. Colonists had ten years to pay off the initial purchase price of fifty dollars and were charged an additional $2 to $5 a month depending on their income. Relatively few of the first colonists were actually from New Jersey as the Equitable Association had hoped; most of them were migrants from Virginia or North Carolina, where the name “George White” was familiar. In March of 1902 the town named itself “Whitesboro” after its most famous investor, George White, who when his term ended in 1901, was the last black Congressional representative until 1929.

In addition to purchasing the initial land for the town, the George H. White Land Improvement Company reinvested its profits back into the community. Although most of the town’s residents were preoccupied with farming the land, many residents were employed by the Improvement Company to construct the first buildings and roads in the community.

Whitesboro’s population grew steadily if modestly reaching 100 residents in 1906. By 1909 Whitesboro boasted two churches, an industrial school for children, a railroad station, a post office and a hotel, all built by residents. The town was also on three railroad lines including one that went east to the Atlantic Coast. The slow steady growth in population continued until the Great Depression. Nonetheless, the town survived financial downturn and continues to exist today with approximately 1,000 residents.
