UK: ScotRail Class 314 EMU leaves Neilston station into the reversing siding

ScotRail Class 314 314205 EMU leaves Neilston station into the reversing siding having arrived on train 2N34, the 1135 Glasgow Central to Neilston.

Clip recorded ‎31st ‎July ‎2018.

Neilston (Scots: Neilstoun, Scottish Gaelic: Baile Nèill) is a village and parish in East Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is in the Levern Valley, 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of Barrhead, 3.8 miles (6.1 km) south of Paisley, and 5.7 miles (9.2 km) south-southwest of Renfrew, at the southwestern fringe of the Greater Glasgow conurbation.

The urbanisation and development of Neilston came largely with the Industrial Revolution. Industrial scale textile processing was introduced to Neilston around the middle of the 18th century with the building of several cotton mills. Neilston became a centre for cotton and calico bleaching and printing in the 18th century, which developed into a spinning and dying industry, and continued into the early 20th century. Although Neilston is known as a former milling village, agriculture has played, and continues to play, an economic role. The annual Neilston Agricultural Show is an important trading and cultural event for farmers from southwest Scotland each spring.

Although heavy industry died out in the latter half of the 20th century, as part of Scotland's densely populated Central Belt, Neilston has continued to grow as a commuter village, supported by its position between Paisley and Glasgow

Neilston railway station, opened 1 May 1903, is the western terminus of the Cathcart Circle Lines from Glasgow Central station. The station is managed by Abellio ScotRail[49] and is 11.7 miles (18.8 km) southeast of Glasgow Central. It was constructed when the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway built its line through the village to the coast at Ardrossan.

British Rail Class 314 alternating current (AC) electric multiple units (EMU) were built by BREL York works in 1979. They were the third variety of British Rail's then-standard 1972 design for suburban EMUs, which eventually encompassed 755 vehicles and five classes (Class 313/314/315/507/508). Able to operate from 25 kV overhead line only, the fleet works inner-suburban services on the Strathclyde rail network in Scotland. The Class 314's can run to a top speed of 70 mph.
Since 2002, they are mostly found working on the Cathcart Circle Line services to Cathcart, Neilston and Newton. A small number of units also usually work Inverclyde Line services to Gourock and Wemyss Bay, mostly during peak hours. They are also seen on the Ayrshire Coast Line occasionally, particularly when extreme weather affects the availability of other ScotRail EMUs. From November 2012, the Class 314s are also seen operating the Paisley Canal Line following the electrification of the branch.
The Class 314 is due to be taken out of service in 2018, when delivery of Class 385s and additional Class 320s because some of Scotrail's Class 318s are to be cascaded onto lines that are currently worked by the 314s.

Abellio ScotRail operating services under the name ScotRail, is the national train operating company of Scotland. A subsidiary of Abellio, it has operated the ScotRail franchise since 1 April 2015.

Abellio ScotRail were meant to introduce a brand new fleet of 46 three-car and 24 four-car Class 385 electric trains from December 2017, to operate services on the lines being electrified as part of the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme. However, due to infrastructure problems, and issues with the trains involving software and windscreen issues, their introduction has been delayed to July 2018. In the meantime Abellio ScotRail will hire 10 Class 365 units from Great Northern to help with ScotRail's carriage shortage. These units are expected to enter service in June 2018.

Abellio ScotRail will also introduce 9 4-carriage and 17 5-carriage refurbished former GWR HST by May 2018 on InterCity Express services between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.

This new rolling stock will result in 10 Class 156, 8 Class 158 and 21 (originally 34) Class 170s returning to their leasing companies when their leases expire in 2018. Transport Scotland negotiated to retain an extra 13 Class 170s to support services through Fife to Aberdeen and the Borders railway. Northern will receive 5 of these 156s, all the 158s and 16 of the 170s.

Waterfall Wander at Gleniffer Braes | Paisley

When you can't travel far to scratch the hiking itch we looked a bit closer to home for somewhere we could stretch the legs but still feel like we weren't in the middle of the city. Gleniffer Braes looks over Paisley and Glasgow, whilst still has parts that make it feel much more remote. It is very popular with families and dog walkers, and offers a number of places to park for free so that you can access the numerous trails it has to offer.

Beautiful quiet village drive near Glasgow | Uplawmoor

Beautiful quiet village drive near Glasgow | Uplawmoor

Uplawmoor is a village in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. Its population was 700 as of 2016.

Historic Uplawmoor,[2] associated for centuries with the Barony of Caldwell and the Mure family, is still a vibrant community today, although bereft of the shops once to be found there. It has a primary school, hotel (Uplawmoor Hotel), village hall (Mure Hall), sports ground for tennis and football (including a playpark) and a golf club (Caldwell Golf Club). Nearby is the extensive Caldwell Estate with the roofless 18th century Caldwell House, which was designed by Robert Adam. The separate Caldwell Tower, of probable 16th century origin, is visible from the village. Several farms surround the village, as agriculture has always been of importance locally.

Historically the village was served by two railway lines - Lanarkshire and Ayrshire and Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway

Uplawmoor has a rural setting, with farmland on one side and mainly beech woodland (Pollick Glen and Shillford Woods, with numerous paths) on the other. Below lies the valley where are the A736 and Loch Libo, a Scottish Wildlife Trust Site Of Special Scientific Interest, the winter home of flocks of whooper swans. At the end of the loch is an area of large tussock sedges and on the far side is a striking waterfall among more woodland. The old hamlet of Shillford lies towards Neilston on the A736.

Cathcart is an area of Glasgow between Battlefield, Mount Florida, King's Park, Muirend and Newlands. The White Cart Water flows through Cathcart, downstream from Linn Park. In 2014, it was rated one of the most attractive postcode areas to live in Scotland.

Originally part of the Burgh of Govan in Renfrewshire, most of the ancient parish was annexed by the City of Glasgow in 1912. Cathcart is mainly a residential area, containing a mix of tenements, terraces and villas built from red or blonde sandstone. There are some historic buildings, including the Couper Institute (a public hall and library) and the Snuff Mill. One of Alexander Thomson's most significant buildings, Holmwood House, is situated in Cathcart, close to the Glasgow city boundary.

Local industry includes ClydeUnion Pumps (previously part of Weir Group), and Scottish Power.

Cathcart is served by Cathcart railway station on the Cathcart Circle Line, as well as numerous bus routes.

Linn Park is a large recreational resource within the surrounding area. Linn Park is the 2nd largest in the city of Glasgow. The semi natural woodland, recently declared a local nature reserve has a large path network and river walk.
