Channel 'Nordic Jeevan' name is combination of two languages. In plain English translation is 'Nordic Life'. It's about my life having lived in one Nordic country since many years. My videos are made in two languages (English & Marathi) so people who watch these videos from US, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia may know either of these languages or both. Some videos may be in one language, but might be subtitled in other language. The intention is that both language audience can get information about my video.

When I heard this comparison ( Chicago of Finland ), knew right away that this is a city worth having a closer look.
Lahti is situated about 100km away from Helsinki. It is known for its relatively rough history, sports and nowadays being one of the greenest and environmental friendly cities in Europe.

Soltinjärvi, Hollola, Finland
Soltinjärvi is a beautiful lake in Hollola. Don't deam about swimming in it though. There are no good places to get into the water. There is a path going around the lake although some paths are dry and nice to walk, some are quite moist or under a swamplike terrain.
Soltinjärvellä on turha kuvitella uimista, sillä hyviä paikkoja pulahtaa järveen ei ole. Polku kulkee järven ympäri, mutta osa alueesta on soista. Erityisesti suo alueet sijoittuvat järven koilis-itä-päätyyn.

Seconda parte del nostro viaggio nella regione dei laghi finlandesi: anche in questo caso non mancano le curiosità sulla Finlandia, i cottage e, ovviamente, la sauna finlandese.
Quindi cosa c'è ancora da vedere in Finlandia Centrale?
Questo secondo video del nostro viaggio in Finlandia è dedicata a Lahti, città dove si trova il Museo dello Sci ma anche gli impressionanti trampolini da ski jumping che funzionano anche in estate.
E questa è una delle curiosità della Finlandia che trovate nel video: vedere gli sportivi che si lanciano in tenuta da sci mentre sotto gli altri fanno il bagno in piscina è possibile solo lì!
Ma non è tutto: altre cose curiose sono la sauna tradizionale (da fare con il cappellino di lana cotta che serve a proteggere la testa dal calore eccessivo guardate il video per capire cos'è!) e la spesa al supermercato finlandese con i costi dei prodotti.
Ma in questa seconda parte del nostro viaggio nella regione dei laghi finlandesi trovate altre esperienze da fare in Finlandia tra cui una gita in barca sul lago Päijänne e le immancabili fatbike, che divertono così tanto i finlandesi (e anche noi a dire il vero!).

Welcome back to a new scene, it's nice to have you here.
We managed to catch the sun about to set on the horizon.
Also known as the golden hour.
There also seems to be a strong chilly wind.
It's almost mid-may, but the warmth of spring is yet to come.
The seagulls are especially noisy around this time of day.
This coastal promenade may not be as spectacular or crowded as the ones in California or Miami,
but it's still a very nice location for an evening stroll.
This lake is called 'Vesijärvi' (EN: Water Lake) located in the city of Lahti.
Lahti is dubbed the Chicago of Finland due to the early industries of both cities.
The eventful criminal history of both cities is also seen as one of the similarities.
About 100 km north-east of the capital, Helsinki.
Lahti is a growing region and one of the main economic hubs of Finland.
In winter this huge lake is completely frozen and you can walk, skate or ski on it.

Let's go back in time to the year 1445, when Lahti was first mentioned.
The village belonged to the parish of Hollola and was on a medieval trade route connecting the towns of Hämeenlinna and Vyborg (now Russia).
Fast forward to the year 1870 when a railway line was built between Riihimäki - St. Petersburg.
Turning Lahti into a lively station, and industrial installations began to form around it.
For a long time this railway station was the second busiest in Finland.
So much so that Lahti was officialy recognized as a town in 1878 and given city rights in 1905.
At the end of 1905, a total of 8,200 people lived here.
The Battle of Lahti was fought in the 1918 Finnish Civil War.
The population grew rapidly in the 1930s, and before the start of the Winter War it was approaching 30,000.
Especially strong was the growth after the wars, when about 10,000 immigrants from Karelia (now Russia) was annexed to the Soviet Union.
The total population in 2021 was 120,000.
From 2018, Lahti also became the first new university city in Finland after Rovaniemi in 1979.
Lahti won the European Green Capital Award of the year 2021.
Several notable buildings include the Sibelius Hall (2000), the City Hall (1911) and the Nastola Church (1804).
Lahti is a city of sports, best known for its annual Ski Games.
It is also the only city to host the Nordic World Ski Championships 7 times.
Many former NHL ice hockey players have started their careers in Lahti.
As well as Formula One driver: Valtteri Bottas and Footballer: Jari Litmanen.
There is certainly a lot to talk about in Lahti and its growth potential going forward.
