The Nanjundeshwara Temple (also called Srikanteshwara Temple) is an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva in the Hindu pilgrimage town of Nanjanagudu in Karnataka, India. It is located on the right bank of river Kapila, a tributary of the Kaveri. Nanjangudu is also known as Dakshina Prayaga or Prayag of South.
Nanju in Kannada means poison the name Nanjundeshwara means the God who Drank the Poison (halahala), a word that has its origins in the legend of the Great Churning of the Ocean of Milk; thus, the town got the name 'Nanjangudu' which means the abode of the god Nanjundeshwara.
The Dodda Jaathre festival at Nanjangud by the temple attracts thousands of devotees. The festivities in the fair include five colourful chariots pulled by devotees on a path called the ratha beedi. Parasurama temple is near Nanjundeshwara temple.
The nine-storied, 120 feet tall temple Gopuram and its extensive exterior were built by Devarajammanni, the queen of the Mysore king Krishnaraja Wadiyar III.

BRINDAVAN GARDENS, MYSORE
The Brindavan Gardens is a garden located 12 k.ms from the city of Mysore in the Mandya District of the Indian State of Karnataka. It lies adjoining the Krishnarajasagara Dam which is built across the river Kaveri.The work on laying out this garden was started in the year 1927 and completed in 1932.Visited by close to 2 million tourists per year, the garden is one of the major attractions of Srirangapatna. Sir Mirza Ismail, the Deewan of Mysore, a man with a penchant for gardens, founded the Brindavan Gardens (Krishnaraja Sagar Dam in particular) and built the Cauvery River high-level canal to irrigate 120,000 acres (490 km2) in modern Mandya district.[citation needed] He was inspired by Hyder Ali who had earlier built the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens at Bangalore.

This temple is located on Chamundi hills which is around 15 kms from the city centre of Mysore. This temple is at hieght of 1065 mts above sea level and dates back to 11th Century. The goddess of the temple, Shri Chamundi mata is the presiding diety of the city of Mysore. She is said to be incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. (has taken this form to destroy demon king Mahisahur.).

Srikanteshwara Temple, Nanjangud, Karnataka, India
Nanjangud (Kannada: ನಂಜನಗೂಡು) is one of the Hindu pilgrimage centres of Southern India and is known for the huge ancient Temple of Lord Srikanteshwara (Kannada: ಶ್ರೀಕಂಠೇಶ್ವರ) dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as Lord Nanjundeshwara (Kannada: ನಂಜುಂಡೇಶ್ವರ).[1] Nanjangud Temple is located in the town on the right bank of river Kapila. Nanjangud is also known as Dakshina Kashi or Varanasi/Prayag of South.
Nanju (ನಂಜು) in Kannada means poison; the name Nanjundeshwara means the God who Drank the Poison (halahala) which originated during the Great Churning of the Ocean of Milk; thus the town got the name Nanjangud which means the abode of Lord Nanjundeshwara.[2][3][4]
The Dodda Jaathre fest at Nanjangud by the Sri Srikanteshwara Temple attracts thousands of devotees where 5 chariots are pulled in the ratha beedi of the town.
