Top 5 places near Bangkok the local recommended for day trips

One great perk about Bangkok is that a couple-hour car ride takes you to completely different scenery and vibes. So even if you are time-strapped but want to explore more than the busy metropolis, Here are the top 5 places to visit in a day-trip from Bangkok.

1. Ayutthaya: Historical Park and Scenic Ancient Temples
Ayutthaya probably made it to your must-go list already. It was Thailand’s capital city for 400 years before it burnt down during the Siamese-Burmese war. Today, old-world charms make it a classic must-visit city. Here, over 60 temples and ruins still stand against the change of time. Just an hour away from Bangkok, you can explore the stunning ancient architecture, and discover lives in the golden time of Thailand.
More info:

2. Kanchanaburi: Stunning scenery and trace WWII through attractions
If you’re into both history and nature, we honestly think Kanchanaburi will be your next favorite city like it is ours. Here, you can discover another side of Thailand’s past during World War II among the scenic natural attractions and chilling atmosphere. We also love its countless crystal clear waterfalls and the abundant wilderness. The Death Railway (aka Thai-Burma Railway) is a sad but vital monument of what happens when we go to war with each other. Enjoy tracing through history at the fascinating museum and exhibition that shed light on the global war in this part of the world.
More info:

3. Nakhon Pathom: See a peaceful local life along a canal & enjoy local activities
Just a short drive from Bangkok, you can take a break from the big city to the fresh air. See a way of life in the countryside and enjoy activities like a local that you should not miss. Here, hop on a long tail boat and absorb the laid-back vibe along Mahasawat Canal and try the most authentic Thai dishes. Visit the Lotus Farm and learn how to fold the lotus leaves. Enjoy riding the tractor through the fruit farm and try the freshly made fruit juice. Just within grasp, there are endless things to be discovered at Nakhon Pathom.
More info:

4. Floating Markets & Railway Market
Thailand has a handful of iconic floating markets with an infinite variety of local treats. Damnoen Saduak floating market is one of the best, and if you haven’t already, check out Maeklong Railway Market. Vendors sit with their trade practices on the side of the railway, and pull away in a flash every time the train is arriving.
More info:

5. Khao Yai National Park: Hiking & Picnic
Even as Thais, we think Khao Yai one-day trip is an appealing idea. You can do a chill hike or animal watching in the lush and huge National Park. There are also many natural plants for you to admire, and the serene nature to make you feel relaxed, slow days and have a picnic lunch at the national park are the best.

Night Market - Nakhon Prathom Thailand 2022 - Street Food and More

One of the most important places for Buddhists in Thailand can be found in Nakhon Pathom, one of the oldest cities in Thailand.

The Phra Pathom chedi, which means “Holy chedi of the beginning” is regarded the oldest Buddhist structure in Thailand. The very impressive chedi (stupa) with its gold roof visible from far away is with its 120 meters height the largest Buddhist chedi in the world.

From November 5th through the 13th the Chedi hosts a huge night market to celebrate 107 years of the standing Buddha next to the Chedi. Vendors offer everything you could possibly want. If you are a Thai food lover this is a place you would want to visit.

MY NEW FAVOURITE THAI TOWN 🇹🇭 ❤️ Thai-Vietnamese Street Food Tour in Nakhon Phanom | Day 1

DAY 2 in Nakhon Phanom

Today I'm in Nakhon Phanom, a sleepy little town in Thailand's northeast region of Isan. As you all know, I like to get off the beaten track in Bangkok and I like to do exactly the same when I'm travelling Thailand. Nakhon Phanom is about as close as you can get to unseen Thailand', there really aren't many western visitors here.

Nakhon Phanom is full of Thai-Vietnamese food and I took full advantage. I ate a fair bit over two days here and most of it was was amazing.

Big shout out to Mizzimum for the recommendations :

On day one I ate:

Khao Jee Pate (Banh Mi) at Im Phung ร้านอิ่มพุง

Pak Mo (Banh Cuon) at Pak Mo Sri Thep ข้าวเกรียบปากหม้อศรีเทพ

The Boat Pier (look for the government boat):

The S Villas Hotel:

Nakhon Phanom is absolutely beautiful, I'd say it's my new favourite Thai town. I would highly recommend The S Villas hotel to stay in, great service and a lovely place (I get no commission).

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

5 Reasons Why I Love Nakhon Si Thammarat : Travel Tips Thailand : Mountains, Beaches, Temples & Food

In this video I am going to give you 5 great reasons why I love Nakhon Si Thammarat in the south of Thailand. This province has it all situated just near Koh Samui and Phuket is on the other side. The town is in the middle of the province which has it all. 30 Km one way you hit beautiful beaches and 30 km the other way you hit mountains.
The 5 things I love were the Mountains and water at Baan Khiriwong. Clear water, feeding the fish, looking at the wildlife and eating great food beside the water.
We travelled late May which is in the dry season in Thailand and hence the river at Baan Kiriwong and potentially the waterfalls were not at their peak however it was still enough to have fun and swim.
The we hit the beaches and in search of pink dolphins and Pancake rock. First we stopped at Baan Khanom which was an amazing quiet beach area then headed further north to Prathap Cape where we took a long tail boar in search of pink dolphins and pancake rock. We should have gone to see the dolphins earlier as it is reported to have more there. We got to the Koh Samui Port around Noon which potentially was a bit late and we only saw the dolphins from afar.
We headed back and stopped at Sichon Beach. This area has some great places to stay and if we go back we would divide our time between the town and relax time here at Sichon beach. Secluded and rustic beach resort area.
As with all places in Thailand there are some beautiful and significant temples with the most noted being Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan. This is a short drive from the old city wall which you can do at the same time. We also went to the Traditional Thai shadow Puppet show that originated in the town.
Eating and going out, this town has everything from street food to top end restaurants. The beauty about staying in town is that you can experience all of that and it was good. Lots of bars and there is a nightlife scene but it is directed to the local population. This made going out enjoyable as it didn’t have the tourist aimed nightlife scene.

My Tips & Tricks:
Hire a car to see the province. The town can look and feel a bit dull but it has a lot to offer, you just need to search for it. Google maps is your friend. I would stay a minimum of 2 nights in town then head to the beach for a couple of nights. Get up and see the dolphins early! We visited some of the beaches beforehand but in hindsight you need to get to the bay the that the dolphins are in early in the morning...like 8 or 9am.
We have put the most significant part of our travels below.

At the time of writing, there was only limited Car Hire Options at the Airport where we wanted to pick up and drop off. The major car hire operators were open at the airport. The operator we used was not able to come into the terminal to meet us on arrival however the contract and the car was all fine.
