Kasaragod is a stunning place located at the northern tip of Kerala, surrounded by the majestic Western Ghats on one side and the beautiful Arabian Sea on the other. The landscape is truly a sight to behold, with twelve rivers flowing through its terrain. It's like a masterpiece created by Mother Nature herself!
Now, let's talk about the interesting name of this place. There are different theories about its origin. One belief is that it comes from the combination of two Sanskrit words - kaasaara meaning lake or pond, and kroda meaning a place where treasure is kept. Another theory suggests that it is named after the abundance of Kaasaraka trees, also known as Strychnos nux vomica or Kaanjiram or Kaaraskara. Both theories make sense because the coastal belt of this district is filled with rivers, lakes, and ponds, along with a rich variety of trees and shrubs, including plenty of Kaasaraka trees.
When you explore Kasaragod, you'll be greeted by the iconic coconut palms that dominate the landscape. Rolling hills and streams flowing into the sea add to the charm of this place. The buildings here are unique, with tiled roofs made from the famous Kasaragod tiles, crafted from the local hard red clay. These buildings are typically walled with laterite blocks, giving them a distinct look. You'll also find older houses with intricate woodwork, showcasing the rich heritage of this region.
Speaking of rivers, Kasaragod is blessed with twelve of them. The longest one is Chandragiri, stretching for 105 km. It originates from Pattimala in Coorg and gracefully meets the sea at Thalangara, near Kasaragod. The river gets its name from the place where it originates, Chandragupta Vasti, which is believed to be the spot where the great Maurya emperor Chandragupta spent his last days as a sage.

Chandragiri Fort is a fort built in the 17th century, situated in Kasaragod District of Kerala, South India. This large squarish fort is 150 feet above sea level and occupies an area of about seven acres by the side of the river Payaswini. The fort is now in ruins. The fort has an eventful history.
Ananthapadmanabhaswamy Temple or Anantha Lake Temple is a Hindu temple built in the middle of a lake in the little village of Ananthapura, around 6 km from the town of Kumbla in Manjeswaram taluk of Kasaragod District of Kerala, South India.
Bela Church, also Our Lady of Sorrows Church, is a Roman Catholic church in the Kasargode district of Kerala state, South India, 15 km north of Kasaragod, 50km away from Mangalore. It was built in 1890 and is thus the oldest church in the district.
Hosdurg Fort is a fort in Kanhangad which is part of Kasaragod district in Kerala state. Hosdurg Fort with its round bastion looks imposing from a distance. Somashekara Nayaka from the Keladi Nayaka dynasty of Ikkeri built this fort. The place is made well known by the Nithyanandasram with 45 caves
