Loughborough Canal Walk - British Canals VIDEO TOUR (Leicestershire, UK)

Doing the Loughborough Canal Walk!

A waterside walk from Loughborough to Leicester along a section of the Grand Union Canal and the River Soar. It's about a 13 mile route, so it's possible to do in a day. At the end of the walk you can get the train directly back to Loughborough from Leicester.
The walk starts on the canal just to the east of the train station. You can access the towpath from Moor Lane Bridge and then follow it south east towards the village of Barrow Upon Soar.

The route continues through the lovely Soar Valley to Mountsorrel and Syston, where you pass through Watermead Country Park. It's a real highlight on the route with 12 lakes, wildflower meadows, woodland, grassland and reedbeds. Look out for a whole host of wildlife on this section of the walk.

The final section takes you through Birstall and Belgrave, before finishing at Abbey Park in Leicester. It's a lovely finish to the walk with the attractive park including formal gardens, a sensory garden, a boating lake, a model boat lake, a miniature railway and pretty bridge over the River Soar.

4 Leicestershire castles in one day challenge

#castles #history #Leicester
I recently attempted to visit 4 Leicestershire castles in one day, why? because as I was looking on the map at directions for one of them I noticed the others were not too far apart, so I thought 'why not, what have I got to lose'

Loughborough is a town in the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire, England. Loughborough is the seat of Charnwood Borough Council and home to Loughborough University. Loughborough is close to the Nottinghamshire border and is within a short distance of locations such as Nottingham, the East Midlands Airport and Derby.

Mountsorrel - leicestershire

A drive through mountsorrel leicestershire england.

Leicestershire Round from Thornton to Mountsorrel

Countryside walk from Thornton Reservoir, through Markfild Hill, Bradgate park, Swithland Woods, Swithland Reservoir to Castle Hill in Mountsorrel, following mostly the Leicestershire Round and a bit of the National forest way.

Sileby Mill, Mountsorrel, Loughborough, Sileby village, Steam trains

A day off the boat. The river is very high, navigation is not happening, so I have done all the unpleasant jobs on the boat - changed the fuel filter, pumped out the bilge, cleaned the raw water filter, emptied the Elsan, vacuumed, washed up... so now I have the whole day free! I take a look at Mountsorrel Lock, with its very low bridge immediately below the lock. Then it's into Loughborough to have a look at the Great Central Railway, the longest double track steam heritage railway in the UK, running at speeds of up to 45mph from Loughborough to Leicester. On the way home I do some shopping at Aldi, and we drive through Sileby to have a look at the shops that are available to boaters staying in the boatyard just 15 mins walk away.

Please have a look at my other videos of cruising the cut.

Discovering Leicestershire - St Morrell's Round Pilgrimage Trail #rambling #hiking #leicestershire

The trail was taken from the British Pilgrimage Trust's website. 17 miles, which turned out to be 18.6 miles according to my Strava recording.

The ramble took us over rolling farmland, ancient woodland and various quaint little English villages along the way. We stopped at Launde Abbey's cafe for lunch which was well priced and the food was amazing.

It was a tough ramble and towards the end we really did start to feel it in our legs and feet.

I'd like to say a special thank you Selina and Snay for joining me on this tough trail.

This walk was part of a fundraiser for the Samaritans. If you'd like to make a small contribution, it would be greatly appreciated. Here is the link for the just giving page:

For more information on the Samaritans and the good work they do, please visit their website:

If you would like to walk the trail please visit this link, you can also request the GPX file too.

Here are various please to stop along the way for refreshments.

The Rebuilding of the Mountsorrel Railway

This is a shortened version of a film first produced in 2013. It was made just as the last rails were being laid in the ambitious Mountsorrel branch line project.

It's presented as a tribute to the hard work involved.

Since then the scheme has gone from strength to strength with Royal visits, new stations and a heritage centre. For more information head to
