Asquith to Dural via Galston Rd Driving Video || Sydney, Australia

Today we will be looking at Galston Road. This strategic road corridor links Hornsby (with the road starting at the neighbouring suburb of Asquith) with Dural; a semi rural suburb located 36 kilometres north of Sydney's central business district.

Apologies for the glare in the video. My CPL filter, which would normally reduce glare, recently cracked and I haven't had the chance to replace it yet. However, this does give a good representation of the potential dangers when driving this stretch of road, under these types of conditions.

Galston Gorge Road winds its way through part of the picturesque Berowra Valley National Park. It is 14.5km (9 miles) long running east-west from Asquith to Dural. Construction of the road was completed by 1895 with seven tight “hairpin” corners.
In 1913 the road became a State road and was finally sealed in 1939, which prevented the constant surface washaways that used to occur.
The road is not easy and has a fairly notorious reputation. It has many blind turns, and you need to be aware of cyclists, especially on weekends. The road contains a narrow stretch of road with a one-way wooden bridge across Tunks Creek (a tributary of Berowra Creek). Here traffic must wait for cars already on the bridge before crossing.
The Tunks Creek Bridge (aka Galston Bridge) is a heritage-listed, single-span timber McDonald truss road bridge. It was built between 1893 and 1894 by the NSW Department of Public Works and crosses Tunks Creek in Galston Gorge, east of Hornsby. At 20 metres (65 ft), the bridge is the shortest of all the remaining timber truss bridges in NSW. **

Heavy vehicles and buses that are 7.5 metres in length or more are prohibited from entering Galston Gorge and considered overlength.
During heavy rain the gorge is often transformed into a far more picturesque and natural drive with waterfalls and streams running alongside and sometimes even across the road.*

Lovely afternoon on our harbour. Yet again. Paradise. This is Sydney Harbour Australia LIVE Cam

Live video on Thursday 17/10/2024 on the world's most beautiful harbour from our camera in Balmain East looking west towards Barangaroo, Pyrmont and Anzac Bridge. Take in some of the views of Sydney from the Barangaroo development to the Inner West and the historic power station. Along the way see the ferries, party boats, the aquarium as well as some serious motor yachts and iconic wharves. The top right image is a stream to the east towards the bridge with a fixed camera in an attempt to catch the dawn skies and then the sun as it rises above the harbour.

Direct view of Barangaroo on the left to Anzac Bridge, the White Bay power station and White Bay Cruise Terminal on the right.

We claim no ownership of any music played by passing boats captured on this stream, all rights belong to the copyright owner. We also need to keep our streams short so it is possible to edit our copyright infringements when greedy studios claim an infringement because a passing boat had music that is too loud.

Places to Visit Australia. Sea Cliff Bridge, Grand Pacific Drive. Sydney to Wollongong.

One of the best road routes to drive in Australia is the Grand Pacific Drive, Coastal Road. This will take you from Sydney down to Wollongong & Beyond. The part shown in the second half of this video is the part of Grand Pacific Drive that is raised on Stilts above the sea and away from the coast edge. This is a very popular tourist road and many tourist will park up walk this section (as can be seen in the video). The horizon can just be seen through the fence as we drive along, but this is much better to see/experience in real life.

The NSW Trainlink challenge - 130 STATIONS IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS

The NSW Trainlink challenge requires you to visit all of the Intercity train stations outside of Sydney, as far North as Scone & Dungog, as far south as Goulburn & Bomaderry and as far west as Bathurst. This marathon took 46 hours and 27 minutes to complete and delays held us back due to the thunderstorms on day 2 of the challenge. In that 46 hours and 27 minutes, we have travelled over 2001 kilometres from Central and return.

Recorded 19/12/2018-21/12/2018

Note: I am aware that Mittagong has been left out. So really it was 131 stations in total including Central. However, I am not going to spend over 100 or so MB and hours to delete and re-edit the video to try and add an extra 1.85 seconds
