Places to see in ( Middleton - UK )

Places to see in ( Middleton - UK )

Middleton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England, on the River Irk 5 miles south-southwest of Rochdale and 4.4 miles north-northeast of Manchester city centre. In 2001, Middleton had a population of 45,580, reducing to 42,972 at the 2011 Census. It lies on the northern edge of Manchester, with Blackley to the south and Moston to the south east.

Historically part of Lancashire, Middleton's name comes from it being the centre of several circumjacent settlements. It was an ecclesiastical parish of the hundred of Salford, ruled by aristocratic families. The Church of St Leonard is a Grade I listed building. The Flodden Window in the church's sanctuary is thought to be the oldest war memorial in the United Kingdom, memorialising the archers of Middleton who fought at the Battle of Flodden in 1513.

In 1770, Middleton was a village of twenty houses, but in the 18th and 19th centuries it grew into a thriving and populous seat of textile manufacture and it was granted borough status in 1886.
Langley in the north of the town was one of Manchester City Council's overspill council estates, whilst Alkrington in the south is a suburban area.

Although unmentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, Middleton is said to be of great antiquity; a community at Middleton is thought to have evolved outwards from a church that existed considerably earlier than the Norman conquest of England. The name Middleton first appears in 1194, and derives from the Old English middel-tūn, meaning middle farm or settlement, probably a reference to its central position between Rochdale and Manchester.

During the Middle Ages, Middleton was a centre of domestic flannel and woollen cloth production. The development of Middleton as a centre of commerce occurred during the 17th and 18th centuries as a result of the effect of the Industrial Revolution. Additional to this, Lord Suffield obtained a Royal Charter from King George III in 1791 to hold a weekly market and three annual summer fairs in Middleton. Suffield built a market house, warehouses and shambles in the town at his own expense.

Middleton stands on undulated land immediately north of the Metropolitan Borough of Manchester; Chadderton and Royton are close to the east. The town of Rochdale lies to the north-northeast. The town is supposed to have derived its name, Middle-town, from its situation midway between Manchester and Rochdale. It is situated on an ancient road between those places. Middleton town centre is around 100 feet (30 m) above sea level.

( Middleton - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Middleton . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Middleton - UK

7 Best Places to Live in the Northwest of England

Where are the best places to live in the northwest of England? Today, we’re going to the Northwest of England. It’s the third most populated among the nine official regions of England. The northwest region is where you’d find the ceremonial counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. There are beautiful cities, towns, and villages in this region with the last known population of 7 million. Among them are those on the Times’ list of the best places to live in the UK. For instance, Stockport in Greater Manchester which is on this list sits comfortably on that one. In this video, we’ll look at the 7 best places to live in the Northwest of England. We also need to inform you that this list agrees with The Times journal.
7. Sefton Park, Liverpool
Let’s begin with this address in Liverpool. Sefton Park in Liverpool is a long and winding road leading to L8. You can relax here if you really want to enjoy your stay somewhere in the northwest of England. The birthplace of the Beatles is full of character, spacious, and walkable. Honestly, if you’re looking for the best address on Merseyside, you’ll find it close to Sefton Park. This is the new “knowledge quarter” where life sciences are booming. We’re elated to see Everton’s new stadium elevating the once-neglected waterfront and the entertainment scene here is being rejuvenated.
The fabulous, family-friendly suburbs of Aigburth to the south or Mossley Hill in Liverpool ensure easy connections to the city centre. Now, Sefton Park itself is a match for any world’s city-centre green space. It’s modelled on the Wirral’s Birkenhead Park, and you know, it was also the template for New York’s Central Park. Sefton Park is lovingly cared for by the Friends of Sefton Park community group. That’s why it has kept all of its Victorian-era elegance, found in a lake, fountains, the palm house, and monuments. Everything, from athletics to music festivals, finds a home here.
6. Ribble Valley, Lancashire
Lancashire is ably represented on this list—and by none other than Ribble Valley, an administrative county and a local government district with a borough status. This rural refuge has all it takes to live the good life. Almost everyone in the place is healthy, happy, and enjoys great grub. Let’s start by looking at it through its meticulously curated cheese shop and deli. It’s one of the small outlets positioning Ribble Valley as a nice place to sum up the feast of delights.
Once upon a time, and not long ago, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) named it both the happiest and the healthiest place in the UK. ONS based that rating on a nationwide questionnaire, sampling the opinions of different demographics. This quiet corner of England may wear its affluence lightly. But its schools and scenery can stand any in the land.
5. Prestwich, Greater Manchester
We now turn our attention to the first of the two representatives of Greater Manchester on this list. And this is Prestwich, a town in the metropolitan borough of Bury. The cool, calm, and connected suburban superstar offers parks and recreation. Prestwich is an emblem symbolizing Manchester’s hardworking heart. Thus, if you’re desirous of sharing the buzz while still enjoying your garden, you only need to take a 25-minute tram trip to Prestwich where you can find roomy Victorian terraces. This well-connected suburb only 5 kilometres north of the Northern Quarter gives the likes of well-established favourites a run for their money. Don’t be shocked to learn the average house price is about 100,000 pounds lower.
All that is besides investment that is coming to the town. As just an instance of this, the battered red-brick 1970s shops located at the Longfield Centre are expecting a 100 million pounds makeover. Also, in the pipeline are a market hall, a health centre, electric vehicle charging points, cycle storage with parcel lockers, and up to 210 new homes.

A two stepped base and plinth which was surmounted by an obelisk and winged figure of Victory but only the plinth now remains. Name plaques used to be attached to the sides of the base of the memorial. The winged Victory stood with an olive branch of peace held in her right hand and a crusader's sword held in her left.

HARTSHEAD PIKE - ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE – TAMESIDE ©MOSSYMEDIA

👍🏻 #like ✔️ #subscribe

is a hill in Tameside in Greater Manchester, England, and its name is associated with the monument on its summit. It overlooks Ashton-under-Lyne, Mossley, Saddleworth, Lees and Oldham. On a clear day you can get views of Manchester, Cheshire and Snowdonia in Wales. Hartshead Pike Tower has been a Grade II listed building since 1967.

During the Roman occupation of Britain, a warning beacon for local garrisons, possibly lit during times of unrest, may have been sited on Hartshead Pike. Local trackways were routes for the Romans to access the Roman road at Limeside.

The name refers to the hill and the tower. The tower is not on the highest part of the hill but its prominent position, 940 feet (290 m) above sea level, has been the site of a beacon or signalling station from early times and may have been the site of a beacon in the late 16th century

The circular, grade-II-listed tower is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a door on the west side and cusped lancet windows. It has a steeply pitched conical roof above corbelled eaves and dormer roof lights.

The tower was rebuilt in 1863 by John Eaton to commemorate the marriage of Albert Edward to Princess Alexandra, replacing a building that had been there since 1751.[4] An inscription stone reused in the tower states This Pike Was Rebuilt By Public Contributions Anno Domini 1751

In the 1930s the tower was open to the public and contained a sweet shop; it closed at the outbreak of the Second World War and the tower entrance was bricked up after the war. During 2020 the tower underwent £61,000 of repairs, to stop it from deteriorating.

There is a well on the summit enclosed by a stone slab. The inscription above the tower's entrance reads Look well at me Before you go And See You nothing at me throw.
