Baden-Baden: Germany’s Most Russian City | How it has Changed Since the War in Ukraine

Baden-Baden is known as Germany's Russian city. From as far back as Czarist times, the spa has been popular with Russian tourists. Even writers such as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Turgenev once visited the spa town in the Black Forrest. But tourists have stayed away since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. But what has changed due to the war? How are Russian and Ukrainian residents dealing with the current situation? DW reporter Lukas Stege was on location and has built up a picture.

Russian Su-57 Operating in Syria

In 1979, the Soviet Union outlined a need for next-generation fighter aircraft intended to enter service in the 1990s. The programme became the I-90 (Russian: И-90, short for: Истребитель 1990–х годов, lit. 'Fighter of the 1990s') and required the fighter to be multifunctional (i.e. multirole) by having substantial ground attack capabilities, and would eventually replace the MiG-29 and Su-27 in frontline tactical aviation service. Two subsequent projects were designed to meet these requirements: the MFI (Russian: МФИ, short for: Многофункциональный фронтовой истребитель, lit. 'Multifunctional Frontline Fighter') and smaller LFI (Russian: ЛФИ, Л short for: Лёгкий, lit. 'Light'), with conceptual work beginning in 1983.[N 3] Mikoyan was selected for the MFI and began developing its MiG 1.44/1.42.[10] Though not a participant in the MFI, Sukhoi started its own programme in 1983 to develop technologies for a next-generation fighter, eventually resulting in the forward-swept wing S-32 experimental aircraft, later redesignated S-37 and then Su-47. Due to a lack of funds after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the MFI was repeatedly delayed and the first flight of the MiG 1.44/1.42 prototype did not occur until 2000, nine years behind schedule.[10] Owing to the high costs, the MFI and LFI were eventually cancelled while the Russian Ministry of Defence began work on a new next-generation fighter programme; in 1999, the ministry initiated the PAK FA or I-21 programme, with the competition announced in April 2001.[N 4] Because of Russia's financial difficulties, the programme aimed to rein in costs by producing a single multirole fifth-generation fighter that would replace both the Su-27 and the MiG-29. Further cost-saving measures include an intended size in between that of the Su-27 and the MiG-29 and normal takeoff weight considerably smaller than the MiG MFI's 28.6 tonnes (63,000 lb) and the Su-47's 26.8 tonnes (59,000 lb).[11][12]

Sukhoi's approach to the PAK FA competition differed fundamentally from Mikoyan's; whereas Mikoyan proposed for the three design bureaus (Mikoyan, Sukhoi, and Yakovlev) to cooperate as a consortium with the winning team leading the design effort, Sukhoi's proposal had itself as the lead designer from the beginning and included a joint work agreement that covered the entire development and production cycle, from propulsion and avionics suppliers to research facilities. Additionally, the two companies had differing design philosophies for the aircraft. Mikoyan's E-721 was smaller and more affordable, with normal takeoff weight of 16–17 tonnes (35,000–37,000 lb) and powered by a pair of Klimov VK-10M engines with 10–11 tonnes (98.1–108 kN, 22,000–24,300 lbf) of thrust each. In contrast, Sukhoi's T-50 would be comparatively larger and more capable, with normal takeoff weight goal of 22–23 tonnes (49,000–51,000 lb) and powered by a pair of Lyulka-Saturn AL-41F1 engines each with maximum thrust in the 14.5-tonne (142 kN, 32,000 lbf) class.[13][14][N 5]

In April 2002, the Ministry of Defence selected Sukhoi over Mikoyan as the winner of the PAK FA competition and the lead design bureau of the new aircraft.[N 6] In addition to the merits of the proposal, Sukhoi's experience in the 1990s was taken into account, with the successful development of various Su-27 derivatives and numerous exports ensuring its financial stability.[16] According to the Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhaylov, flight tests were projected to begin in 2007.[14][17] Mikoyan continued to develop its E-721 as the LMFS (Russian: ЛМФС, short for: Лёгкий многофункциональный фронтовой самолёт, lit. 'Light Multifunctional Frontline Aircraft') at its own expense. #God #Jesus #Faith #american #vietnam #war #support #usa #thankyouforyourservice #veterans #army #navy #marines #usaf #pilot #extreme #jet #fighterjet #airplane #russia #ukraine #japan #china #technology #entrepeneur #godblessamerica #tripadvisor #travel #military #aviation #airshow #museum #helicopter #helicopteros #helicopterpilot #foryou #mybloopers #youtubeshorts #love #texas #houston #california #sandiego #turbine #photography #history #sf #2023 #strong #aviones #f22 #f22raptor #specialforces #ai #artificial #b25 #bomber #twinengine #nasa #robot #elonmusk #astronaut #universe #science #thunderbirds #f16 #topgun #maverick #blueangels #f18superhornet #supersonic #trendingsong #trending #trend #reels #tiktok #trendingvideo #trendingreels #russia #ukraine #china #shorts #trendingshorts #top #science #technology

Shocking photos of TOP 20 mysteries in nature

We at Eco snooki have compiled some of the rarest and most incredible natural phenomena that prove us almost totally ignorant of our planet.
Fast forward to the present and we've developed all kinds of technology to help us unlock mysteries that were once considered magic. But Mother Nature isn't willing to reveal all her tricks so quickly, so we have to figure them out for ourselves. Case in point? We've got eight of them right here.

From a waterfall that disappears into nowhere to odd jelly blobs that fall from the sky, the mechanics behind these natural phenomena are some of nature's best kept secrets.
There are natural mysteries all over the world. In the past, our ancestors attributed them to the workings of gods and goddesses. Today, science has provided an explanation for most of them, yet questions remain about many natural phenomenon that we just don’t know the answers to.

4K Russia | Moscow New year 2020 | Tverskaya street walking tour

Tverskaya Street (from 1932 to 1990 - part of Gorky Street) is the largest street in the Tver District of the Central Administrative District of Moscow. It goes from the Kremlin (Mokhovaya Street / Okhotny Ryad) to the northwest to Triumfalnaya Square (Mayakovsky), where it passes into the 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street (in 1932-1990, the 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya was also part of Gorky Street).
The street arose as a road to Tver, a section of which within Moscow, from the Iversky Gate of the Kitaygorod wall to the gate of the Earth City, from time immemorial was called Tverskaya Street. In the first half of the 20th century, Tverskaya Street was significantly expanded and rebuilt.
Tverskaya is one of the most expensive shopping streets not only in Moscow, but also in Russia. In 2013, the rental price of retail space on the street reached 4.5 thousand dollars per 1 m² per year. On average, rent is more expensive only in Stoleshnikov Lane. According to the newspaper Vedomosti, the largest owner of commercial real estate on Tverskaya is businessman Mikhail Gutseriev Tverskaya is also the center of nightlife and entertainment.
In May 2016, during landscaping, builders uncovered and damaged archaeological sites in places: wooden bridges of the XVII - beginning of the XVIII centuries, underground vaults and foundations of buildings demolished in Soviet times in order to expand the street. Moscow scholar Konstantin Mikhailov called these works an archaeological feast during the plague.
The city authorities began planning the reconstruction of Tverskaya Street in 2012. In 2013, a competition was announced, the task of which was to narrow the roadway by reducing the width of the rows (as was done on Bolshaya Nikitskaya and Myasnitskaya and Ordynka), paving the sidewalks with granite tiles, installing new lighting, benches and flower beds. The change in the street width was justified by the presence of a “bottleneck” near the Okhotny Ryad, where drivers were forced to rebuild, which led to traffic jams. However, the competition was canceled, and Tverskaya was not included in the list of primary projects for improvement because of transport significance and the high cost of work. Planning to begin reconstruction of the street in 2016, the city hall divided it into 2 sections: from Okhotny Ryad to Pushkinskaya Square and from Pushkinskaya Square to Triumfalnaya Square and 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street. The landscaping project for the first site was prepared by architects from the Dutch bureau West 8, bidding for the work was announced in November 2015. The work site included Tverskaya itself, 9 courtyards and a small section of Bolshaya Bronnaya along McDonald’s restaurant.
In March 2016, the landscaping project was presented on the Active Citizen portal and attracted a lot of attention from citizens. Construction work began in May and ended a month ahead of schedule - in July. By reducing the width of car lanes from 3.7 to 3.25 meters, the width of the roadway was reduced to 55% of the street width, sidewalks were expanded and parking lots for public transport and taxis were organized. Old stops were replaced with new ones equipped with an electronic display, Wi-Fi points and ports for charging USB devices. In the paving of the sidewalk, 2-color tile was used that visually separated the walking part of the street from the technical one, protecting pedestrians from the roadway. To illuminate the street according to the drawings of the Moscow Lights Museum, plafonds were recreated that reproduced samples from the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. Part of the project was the restoration of the historic linden alley that existed from 1947 to the mid-1990s. The wires were transferred to the technical sewer, the trolleybus lines were dismantled, the trolleybus routes along Tverskaya were closed.
