Together with the Beijing Hikers I went on the 'White River Hike'. About 2 hours from Beijing, in the Miyun district, you can find a canyon with a river. I hiked along and through the river, surrounded by lush trees and mountains.

Western Hills

Western Hills National Forest Park is the closest forest park with 19 kilometers (20 miles) from downtown Beijing, and is an ideal place for mountaineering, overlooking the city, and viewing peach flowers in full blossom and red leaves. It’s located in the Small Western Hill of the western suburbs of Beijing and stretches across Haidian, Shijingshan, Mentougou Districts. The park covers an area of over 14,700 acres. The Small Western Hill, a branch of Taihang Mountain, has a forest coverage rate of 98%. Stepping into the park, you can see green trees scattered everywhere. There are 4,600 Pinus sylvestris, and over 1,000 aged pine trees. Some of them are over 100 years old, stretching like giant umbrellas under the blue sky and white clouds, and making the park a great place to breathe fresh air and to relax, too. 1717 years old Beijing Tanzhe Temple (北京潭柘寺)-Tanzhe Temple first, then Beijing!

Tanzhe Temple, located at the foot of Tanzhe Mountain in the southeast of Mentougou District, Beijing, is the oldest recorded temple in Beijing. It is commonly known as Tan Zhe Temple because of its famous Longtan(pool) and Zheshu(tree).
Tanzhe Temple was founded in the first year (307) of Yongjia, Huai Di of the Western Jin Dynasty, and was initially named Jiafu Temple. During the reign of Emperor Wu Zetian (696-697), Monk Huayan rebuilt the temple around the dilapidated Jiafu Temple and renamed it Longquan Temple. Jin Xizong Wanyan Dan In the first year of the Imperial Dynasty (1141), he came to Tan Zhushi to worship the Buddha and allocated funds for the renovation and expansion of Tanzhe Temple and renamed the temple Da Wanshou Temple. He was the first emperor to visit Tanzhe Temple to worship the Buddha. Up to Ming Dynasty, in the history of more than 200 years, Tanzhe Temple has undergone several renovations and expansions, and the emperor has named the temple several times, so the name of the temple has been changed several times, and the old name Jiafu Temple has been restored. The current overall scale was formed in Ming Dynasty. In the thirty-first year of Kangxi (1692), Emperor Kangxi allocated funds to renovate Tanzhe Temple. In the 36th year of Kangxi's reign (1697), he named his private temple Chijian Xiu Yun Zen Temple. Since then, Tanzhe Temple has become the largest imperial monastery in Beijing. Most of the existing buildings in Tanzhe Temple are the relics of Ming and Qing dynasties.
The Forbidden City of Beijing has 9999 and a half rooms, while Tanzhe Temple in its heyday of the Qing Dynasty has 999 and a half rooms. It is said that the Forbidden City was modelled on Tanzhe Temple in the early Ming Dynasty. With a total of 943 houses, of which 638 are ancient temples, the buildings maintain the style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the largest ancient temple complex in suburban Beijing.
Tanzhe Temple is one of the origins of Beijing's early Buddhist culture. There is a folk proverb in Beijing: Tanzhe Temple first, then Beijing (先有潭柘寺，后有北京城). Its building scale is also the largest temple in the capital.

At one time, it was one of the most important temples in the nation. The temple is located near China National Highway 108 in the Mentougou District of Beijing. Built-in the Jin Dynasty (265–420), it has an age of around 1,700 years. Tanzhe Temple is one of the oldest temples in Beijing. The area of the entire temple is 100 mu (6.8 hectares), and its arrangement of halls is akin to that found in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Let's talk about another temple in Beijing - Tanzhe Temple (built in 307 AD).

Baipu Temple

Took a day trip back in late March to Baipu Temple which is a 3 to 4 hour trip on a bus to MenTouGou district of Beijing. We would get dropped off by the edge of the woods to take a 2 hour hike to the temple.It was a nice mellow hike through the mountains northwest of Beijing but the hike back to the bus did not go through the woods. We would walk along the road that was going up the mountain for a little over 2 hours to get to where the bus was. This was the only issue with the trip but all in all still a great day.

1-Baipu Temple is an ancient temple from the Liao Dynasty that has more than 900 years of history. The area is also known as JinYin Mountain Baipu ShouFeng Zen Temple.

Chang'an Avenue is an urban trunk road connecting Dongcheng District and Xicheng District in Beijing, China. It is an east-west axis line running through the urban area of the capital city of China. It is also one of the famous streets in Chinese history.

Chang'an Avenue was first built in the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1420). After years of repairs and construction, after the reform and opening up, the entire road section was gradually modernized and upgraded.
In a narrow sense, Chang’an Avenue starts from Dongdan Intersection at the east end and ends at Xidan Intersection at the west end. The total length of the route is 3.8 kilometers (including the section at the intersection of Tiananmen Square). , The total length of West Chang'an Avenue is 1742 meters; the speed limit for driving is 70 kilometers per hour. The total length of Chang'an Street in Guangyi is about 55 kilometers. On the basis of East and West Chang'an Street, it covers other parts of the road at both ends. It starts from Sanshi Road in Mentougou in the west and ends in Songliang Road in Tongzhou in the east.

Chang'an Avenue is famous both at home and abroad because it is located in the center of Beijing, China, has a long history, and has hosted many major national celebrations. It is known as the Ten Mile Long Street and The First Street in China.

長安街是中國北京市境內一條連接東城區與西城區的城市主幹路，為橫貫中國首都城區的東西中軸線路，也是中國歷史上著名的街道之一。
長安街始建於明永樂十八年（1420年），歷經多年修繕建設，至改革開放後，全路段逐漸完成現代化升級改造。
狹義長安街，東端起於東單路口、西端止於西單路口，線路總長3.8千米（含天安門廣場結合部路段），以天安門為界分成東長安街與西長安街；其中東長安街全長1507米、西長安街全長1742米；行車限速70千米/小時。廣義長安街全長約55千米，在東西長安街基礎上，涵蓋兩端方向其它部分路段，西起門頭溝三石路、東至通州宋梁路。
