Mellieha is located in the northwestern part of Malta and it is a large village set on top of a hill with beautiful landscapes and vistas. During the summer months, this destination becomes very popular and lively; that is why many people come here to spend their vacations. It is also well known for the beautiful villas in Santa Maria Estate which are perfect for those people who are looking for a peaceful and secluded location for their holidays. Visiting this village would surely be a breathtaking experience for tourists. The village is located on top of a serene hilltop from where you can enjoy great views of the azure Mediterranean Sea and the Ghadira sandy beach, the longest sandy beach in Malta. The village is surrounded by deep valleys which are very fertile.
Reaching Mellieha
Mellieha is located 13 miles away from the capital Valletta, a bus from Valletta takes around 45min. It takes more or less the same time to get from the airport to Mellieha.
Things to see in Mellieha
Mellieha the picturesque and quaint village welcomes all the tourists to enjoy a calm and mesmerizing vacation. Some things that you must see here are mentioned below.
The best feature of this village is the 18th century neo-Baroque church which also has a medieval shrine. The church was built on the edge of the cliff from where you can get exotic views of the whole village and of the Ghadira Bay.
Mellieha Bay (Ghadira) is one of the best beaches that is located in Malta. This sandy beach has shallow waters that are ideal for children. Here you can also enjoy scuba diving, swimming and all sorts of water sports.
The Ghardira Bird Sanctuary is located very near to the Mellieha Bay and you can visit this place with your family and friends.
If you want to spend your holiday visiting different beaches, then some other nearby beaches worth visiting are Ghajn Tuffieha Bay and the Golden Bay.
There are various shops and markets located in this soulful village from where you can purchase local goods and artifacts.

In today’s video, we take a look at the 10 amazing places to visit in Malta.
10- Gozo Island
Relax on Ramia Bay beach, which is a sandy beach with a clear and calm sea. Sun loungers as well as an umbrella are available to rent across the golden grains and with ice cream, you are good to go! don’t leave Gozo Island without booking a tasting at Tal-Massar winery, step inside Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu Basilica and enjoy the inspiring view. You can also go Scuba diving in the Blue Hole or climb around the Ggantija Temple.

Mellieha Bay is Malta’s most attractive and largest sandy beach, the beach has breathtaking views of valleys and picturesque villages. It is an ideal place for visitors to explore. The Dingli Cliffs are great cliffs located over 250 meters above sea level, offering great views. They are 2 kilometers outside Rabat, which makes them a perfect spot to get out of the city and immerse yourself in nature.
Visitors can stroll around but must be mindful not to walk close to the edge of the cliff. There are several ways to reach the Dingli Cliffs, by private island tour, car, or bus. Whichever option you choose, be ready to watch the sun light up the white limestone cliffs.

Day and night, Mellieha is a vibrant pulse of energy.
Mellieha does not rely on the sea to bring the color, day and night, it glows with a sense of vibrancy and energy. This area located in the north part of the island has a good t atmosphere.
There’s plenty of history through the ages surrounding this area that was first inhabited around 3000 BC. Plus the northern coast offers a beautiful natural environment that’s ideal for a nature walk. Head into the countryside and you may stumble across megalithic remains, troglodyte caves and a red tower.
In Mellieha, you will find spectacular views including coastal cliffs, beaches and bays. Try the different bars, cafes and restaurants but mostly enjoy the lovely Meditterean atmosphere of this beautiful coastal area.
Mellieha is such a gorgeous town, but many just pass through to either hit the beach in summer or head up to Cirkewwa to catch the ferry to Gozo. But like many other towns on the Maltese Islands, Mellieha is home to a number of hidden treasures that are just waiting to be explored.
WHAT TO SEE IN MELLIEHA:
- 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐡𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐲 (Ghadira Bay) - is for those who call the sea their second home, if surfing isn`t for you then try paddle boarding, it`s a fun way to keep fit and see the bay from a distance.
- 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 - this 19th-century church was built by the town’s devout peasants, who transported all the stone cut from the local quarry by hand.
- 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 - inside there is the Crypt of Our Lady of Mellieha which was originally one of the many natural caves found around the northern part of the island.
- 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 - it`s a natural cave lying low in the valley where there are steps to go down to it, dedicated to Our Lady. It has been a special place for many centuries.
- 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 (St.Agatha`s Tower) - this tower has survived two worlds wars in Malta’s history. The Red Tower is a large bastioned watchtower that forms part of the Lascaris towers, named after the then Grand Master of the Knights of Malta.

Melieha is city on the north side of Malta overlooking Melieha(Ghadira)Bay(Beach).We visited central square with Parish Church,Shrine of Lady of Grotto and several view points.We walked along central and traditional sde streets until the bottom of the hill and Ghadira Bay.
