Meadow Brook Hall was the home of Alfred and Matilda Dodge Wilson. She was the widow of John Dodge of automotive fame; after his death, her controlling interest in the Dodge Brothers gave her a great fortune. Combined with the wealth of her second husband, their financial resources allowed them to build Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan, the fourth largest private residence in the United States. The grounds around it were eventually used by Matilda to create Oakland University.

Meadow Brook Hall is a Tudor revival style mansion located in Detroit's northern suburbs. Built in Avon Township (now Rochester Hills, Michigan) by the heiress to the Dodge automaker fortune, Matilda Dodge Wilson. It was completed in 1929. The mansion is 88,000 square feet. It has 110 rooms. The structure is the fourth largest historic mansion museum in the United States and is considered one of America's few true Castles.
In 1957, the mansion, its surrounding property and buildings were donated to the state of Michigan in order to fund Michigan State University–Oakland, now known as Oakland University. The structure was named a National Historic Landmark in 2012.

▶︎ Good to visit Adirondacks
We stayed here while exploring the Adirondacks and Lake Placid. It was a fairly priced and good place to stay, though it did rain most of our time there. There are water spigots and limited generator hours, but we didn't run it except to make coffee. The office staff are very friendly, and there are great recycling options. Our site was kind of a bare patch of grass, though it worked for us.
