The Isle of Man - Railways, Castles and Seals - Isle of Man Travel Video
The Isle of Man - Railways, Castles & Seals - Isle of Man Travel Video is our closest to home travel video. Greg made it his mission on the Isle of Man to prove to Felicity that it’s possible to have an adventure without the need to spend many hours on the plane to get there.
On the Isle of Man, Greg got to share his love of history, exploring both Peel Castle and Rushen Castle as well as riding not just on his beloved steam trains but also on the only electric mountain railway tram on the British Isles. While Greg obsessed over his historic railways - from the Isle of Man Railway to the Manx Electric Railway, Felicity found something more to her taste at The Sound, where wild seals live on the rocks beneath and around The Calf of Man Island. The Isle of Man seals were a delight to watch, so much so that we man have gone back a few times...
Only once did they feel the need to escape - from an escape room at Exit Strategy!
Overall the Isle of Man made for a fun filled adventure which we hope you enjoy.

ISLE OF MAN 🇮🇲 tEAvEE 🎥 Presents: Maughold (Manx: Maghal) is one of the seventeen parishes of the Isle of Man. Maughold (also known as Macaille, Maccaldus, Machalus, Machaoi, Machella, Maghor, Mawgan, Maccul, Macc Cuill); died c. 488 AD) is venerated as the patron saint of the Isle of Man. Tradition states that he was an Irish prince and captain of a band of freebooters who was converted to Christianity by Saint Patrick. Maughold is today best remembered on the Isle of Man for his kind disposition toward the Manx natives. Several places on the island, including, Maughold parish, St. Maughold's Well, and St. Maughold's Chair are named after him...

Maughold - Isle of Man
Maughold - Isle of Man by Drone

Maughold Head is the easternmost point of the Isle of Man and the closest point in the Isle of Man to England, being 50 kilometres (31 mi) from St. Bees Head in Cumbria.
Maughold Head lies in the northeast of the island, some 5 kilometres (3 mi) from Ramsey, at the southern end of Ramsey Bay.
Maughold Head lighthouse
Located at the very end of the headland is the Maughold Head Lighthouse which was built in 1914. Although now unmanned, it continues to be operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board.
Maughold is a village and parish in the Isle of Man, within the sheading of Garff. It is named for Maughold, the island's patron saint.
The village of Maughold lies on the coast some three miles from Ramsey, with mountainous terrain on its landward side. The parish includes most of the North Barrule, the second highest hill on the island. A proportion of the land in the area has been in Manx National Heritage ownership since 1965. Kirk Maughold (the parish church for the area) contains a number of historically important Celtic crosses, suggesting that it was the site of an early Christian monastery. Maughold Head to the east of the village is the easternmost point on the island and has a lighthouse. There are no other significant settlements in the parish.
In May 2016, the parish of Maughold was merged for local administrative purposes with Laxey and Lonan to form the parish district of Garff. Maughold is also in the Keys constituency of Garff.
The Isle of Man is located in the middle of the northern Irish Sea, almost equidistant from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland (closest), and Wales (farthest). It is 52 kilometres (32 mi) long and, at its widest point, 22 kilometres (14 mi) wide. It has an area of around 572 square kilometres (221 sq mi). Besides the island of Mann itself, the political unit of the Isle of Man includes some nearby small islands: the seasonally inhabited Calf of Man, Chicken Rock on which stands an unmanned lighthouse, St Patrick's Isle and St Michael's Isle. The last two of these are connected to the main island by permanent roads/causeways.
Ranges of hills in the north and south are separated by a central valley. The northern plain, by contrast, is relatively flat, consisting mainly of deposits from glacial advances from western Scotland during colder times. There are more recently deposited shingle beaches at the northernmost point, the Point of Ayre. The island has one mountain higher than 600 metres (2,000 ft), Snaefell, with a height of 620 metres (2,034 ft). According to an old saying, from the summit one can see six kingdoms: those of Mann, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, and Heaven. Some versions add a seventh kingdom, that of the sea, or Neptune

Wilbyfilm's 2019 Part 3 May-June
Part 3 in the end of year review series..
There were some good fine spells in May-June some of which coincided with several Cruise Ship visits to the Island. One day in May I managed to cover Laxey Bay, the Laxey wheel Maughold Head and Port Mooar and two locations in Ramsey - a two drone and 6 battery shoot! The Manx weather is very changeable so you've got to take every opportunity where you can.

Maughold was named after a minor Celtic Saint Machaoi and is believed to have been the main pre-Norse religious community on the Isle of Man. The parish produced the largest collection of crosses and slabs during the early Christian period (6th-13th century). Most found in the churchyard, which was once the site of a Celtic Monastery about 600 AD and three keeills (chapels).
The current church goes back to 1000AD to 1100AD, though many alterations and extensions were carried out over the centuries. Much work to modernise the church took place in the early 1900's. At the same time the Maughold Cross House was built. Designed by Armitage Rigby and was the project of PMC Kermode. The finished house was opened in 1906 by the Governor, Lord Raglan.

Isle of Man - Cashtal yn Ard or the Castle of the Heights
Drone Footage of Cashtal yn Ard - Isle of Man.
Cashtal yn Ard, or the Castle of the Heights, is a well preserved chambered tomb situated on raised land overlooking the parish of Maughold.
The monument was originally a megalithic chambered cairn – a conical heap of stones built as a landmark – and could have been used as a communal burial place for Neolithic chieftans and their families.
Cashtal yn Ard dates back to around 2000 BC and although the stone cairn has been stripped away, the large firmly set stones create a dramatic burial site.
The aim is to show there is far more to this island than the TT Races, I love to explore using my Drone and my Motorcycles. My Drone footage even shows me places to re-visit when I view them on the computer screen. Buildings, Valleys, Rivers, Streams, Caves, rock faces that I simply would not know existed until I review this footage. My aim is for you the viewer to also watch these videos and see places that spark that lightbulb moment, they even may make you want to buy a drone and fly the same locations and get closer to those places that I have not yet returned to.
