One of the best day trips from Copenhagen has to be a visit to the islands of Lolland and Falster. These islands offer things to do no matter which town you are visiting, but Maribo has several attractions to see. .
If you're in Maribo, consider visiting the Museumsbanen (Museum Train), Nakskov's Green World Zoo, and the submarine U-359, but you can also visit a 12th-century royal residence, Ålholm Castle, in the town of Nysted, and don't forget Knuthenborg Manor with its Safari Park (open April-October)..
Getting There: Lolland is connected to Denmark's Zealand by a bridge. A day trip from Copenhagen to Lolland is an 80-mile drive along the E47 road south..

Lolland – Die südlichste Insel Dänemarks | ARD Reisen
Tamina Kallert entdeckt die südlichste Insel Dänemarks – Lolland. In den lebendigen Handelsstädten Nakskov und Nykøbing-Falster findet Tamina Kallert Kirchen in Backsteingotik, Fachwerkhäuser aus dem 16. bis 18. Jahrhundert – und dänische Gemütlichkeit. Sie steht ehrfürchtig vor den Dodekalitten, riesigen Granitskulpturen, und trifft in der Hafenstadt Nysted eine Berliner Künstlerin in ihrer international renommierten Galerie. In Maribo besucht sie einen preisgekrönten Bäcker und sieht zu, wie das bei den Dänen beliebte Roggenbrot gebacken wird: die Grundlage für das berühmte Smørrebrød. Von Kragenæs aus fährt Tamina Kallert mit der Fähre auf die kleine Obstinsel Fejø und bekommt zwischen Hunderten von Apfelbäumen ein bisschen ein Heile-Welt-Gefühl.

Museumsbanen Maribo - Bandholm / Ældste damplokomotiv i Danmark bygget i 1879 og ældste privatbane!
Museumsbanen Maribo - Bandholm har fra 1962 kørt tog fremført med det ældste køreklare damplokomotiv i Danmark. Det blev bygget i 1879. Personvognene er med privatbanemateriel fra årerækken 1869-1930. Banen er Danmarks ældste privatbane, åbnet helt tilbage i 1869!
Her kører Danmarks ældste driftsklare damplokomotiv KIØGE (Krauss 761/1879) og det nyeste damplokomotiv LJ nr. 19 (Henschel 17887/1920). Derudover også verdens ældste diesellokomotiv LJ M nr. 1 (DEVA 16/1921).
Eneste købstad på Lolland uden havn er Maribo. I midten af forrige århundrede var byen centrum for vidtgående landbrugshandel, specielt med korn, og dermed opstod behovet for flere og bedre transportmuligheder til havnen I Bandholm.
Jernbanen mellem Maribo og Bandholm blev åbnet 2. november i 1869 med Knuthenborg gods, der ejer Bandholm havn, og Privatbanken som hovedaktionærer. Det var altså Danmarks allerførste privatbane. Der var 2 damplokomotiver til rådighed for driften, bygget af Robert Stephenson i Newcastle, 6 personvogne og 10 godsvogne, bygget i Randers. Strækningen er i alt 8 km lang og etableret med normal sporvidde.
Bandholm station er bygget til åbningen i 1869. Hovedbygningen er indrettet med kontor, ventesale, banegårdsbeværtning, post- og telegrafekspedition, pakrum og bolig til stationsforvalteren, der også var banens driftsbestyrer. Det var ganske trange forhold. Indtil 1879 blev billetterne solgt i togene, men herefter solgte stationen både billetter til tog og til nogle skibsruter. Bandholm havn var et trafikknudepunktet for rutetrafikken med øerne Askø, Fejø og Femø og derudover anløbshavn for skibsruterne mellem København og vestlige Østersøhavne.

Bindeballe Station
Vejle-Vandel railway was established in year 1897
The railway trail stretched through the beautiful Vejle Valley and Bindeballe Station was a station stop.
In 1957 the Vejle-Vandel pitch was abolished and the station was closed down permanently.
Partial of the railway trail still remains until these days.
The station building is now served as a museum with an exhibition and the stationmaster's office is preserved. The station is opened during the summer between the 9am and 10pm. There is camping facilities available e.g. room (for a few tents to stay 1-2 nights), kitchen and toilet facilities.
