10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK
What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England
Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England
Often referred to as the Garden of England due to its endless acres of orchards and lush gardens, the county of Kent offers no end of fun things to do for those willing to wander a little further off the beaten track.
Not only is Kent well-known for its relatively mild climate, it also boasts some of England's oldest and most important historic attractions. It was in Kent that the Romans launched their invasion of England some 55 years before the birth of Christ, and where, over 500 years later, the Christian faith was first introduced to the island nation. As a result of these events, you'll often find Roman ruins brushing up against important religious sites, as is the case in the cathedral city of Canterbury.
Kent also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in England. Visit the east coast of Kent, and you'll see the famous White Cliffs of Dover looking out towards neighboring France, visible in the distance. This same coastline is home to some 50 or more Kentish beaches, most of them easy day trips from London.

Margate beach Kent, UK - is it worth visiting?
We shared few clips from our visit to Margate beach in Kent, UK. We found it just fine nothing spectacular about it but let us know if your experience is contradictory to it.
Places to see in ( Margate - UK )
Places to see in ( Margate - UK )
Margate is a seaside town in the district of Thanet in Kent, England. It lies 38.1 miles east-north-east of Maidstone, on the coast along the North Foreland and contains the areas of Cliftonville, Garlinge, Palm Bay and Westbrook.
For at least 250 years, Margate has been a leading seaside resort in the UK, drawing Londoners to its beaches, Margate Sands. The bathing machines in use at Margate were described in 1805 as four-wheeled carriages, covered with canvas, and having at one end of them an umbrella of the same materials which is let down to the surface of the water, so that the bather descending from the machine by a few steps is concealed from the public view, whereby the most refined female is enabled to enjoy the advantages of the sea with the strictest delicacy.
The Dreamland Amusement Park (featured in The Jolly Boys' Outing extended episode of the television series Only Fools and Horses) is situated in the centre of Margate. It reopened in 2015, having been closed since 2006 following a lengthy campaign by the group Save Dreamland Campaign. The Scenic Railway roller coaster at Dreamland, which opened in 1920, is Grade II* Listed and the second oldest in the world, was severely damaged in a fire on 7 April 2008 but has now been fully restored and reopened to the public in October 2015. Today the Dreamland roller coaster is one of only two early-20th century scenic railways still remaining in the UK; the only other surviving UK scenic railway is in Great Yarmouth and was built in 1932. The Margate roller coaster is an ACE Coaster Classic. Cliftonville, next to Margate, has a classic British Arnold Palmer seaside mini golf course.
There are two notable theatres, the Theatre Royal in Addington Street – the second oldest theatre in the country – and the Tom Thumb Theatre, the second smallest in the country, in addition to the Winter Gardens. The Theatre Royal was built in 1787, burned down in 1829 and was remodelled in 1879 giving Margate more national publicity. The exterior is largely from the 19th century.[15] From 1885 to 1899 actor-manager Sarah Thorne ran a school for acting at the Theatre Royal which is widely regarded as Britain's first formal drama school. Actors who received their initial theatrical training there include Harley Granville-Barker, Evelyn Millard, Louis Calvert, George Thorne, Janet Achurch, Adelaide Neilson and Irene and Violet Vanbrugh, among others. An annual jazz festival takes place on a weekend in June.
Margate Museum in Market Place explores the town's seaside heritage in a range of exhibits and displays, and is now opened at weekends by a team of volunteers. First discovered in 1798, the Margate Caves (also known as the Vortigern Caves) are situated at the bottom of Northdown Road. They are currently closed to the public.
The Shell Grotto, which has walls and roof covered in elaborate decorations of over four million shells covering 2,000 square feet (190 m2) in complex patterns, was rediscovered in 1835, but is of unknown age and origin. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building. There is a 16th-century 2-storey timber-framed Tudor house built on a flint plinth in King Street. Margate's Jubilee Clock Tower was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, although not completed until 1889. It had a Time Ball mechanism, mounted on a mast atop the tower, which was raised a few minutes before 1pm each day and dropped at precisely 1pm, thereby allowing residents, visitors and ships to know the exact time. This was, of course, in the days before wireless transmission of time signals.

Places Tourist Might Miss on Their Visit to Margate, Kent, England?
The Lighter Side of Margate; usually when people think of Margate they think of a typical British town seaside resort and of Dreamland. Dreamland is still undergoing renovation, and there is little doubt that when it does reopen it’s going to be the major tourist attraction that in its heyday it once was.
We only made a flying visit to Margate so didn’t have the time to soak up the traditional side of such a place, although we did wander along the tourist town seaside resort pass all the restaurants, pubs and cafes looking for somewhere to have an evening meal; in the end settling on the Brewers Fayre restaurant close to the train station.
Tacked onto the end of our French holiday, and before finally making our way home, we made an overnight stop at Margate specifically to see the marvel of the Shell Grotto (made with 4.6 million sea shells); part of its fascination being who, why and when the grotto was built being a complete mystery to the experts.
We booked in at the Smiths Court Hotel, 21-27 Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville; located just a short distance from the main sea front, in a quieter area of Margate but still with rooms with a sea view. The hotel was excellent, but what caught my attention was ‘The Blues Grill, at The Malvern Hotel just two doors up which had an unusual and fascinating frontage featuring the Blues Brothers.
The Shell Grotto, which we visited at 10:00 sharp the following morning, when it opened, was well worth the visit; such an unusual curiosity. Right opposite the Shell Grotto is R.G. Scott, Furniture Mart, the most fascinating reclamation yard we’ve ever seen; and consequently (after spending an hour there) we came away with a bell which we subsequently fitted to the outside of our conservatory and a grand 8 foot high Victorian style street lamp with three lamp holders wired for electrics; which we shall secure to the corner of our conservatory decking and get it wired into the mains and controlled from a switch in the conservatory itself.
The other place my wife specifically wanted to visit while we were in Margate was the famous ‘Cup Cake Café’; so before continuing our journey (after our visit to the Shell Grotto) we stopped there for a rest bite and took in the delights of their cupcakes washed down with a nice hot drink.
And finally, after leaving Margate and making our journey home to Bristol we made a pit stop at Pegwell Bay in Ramsgate, Kent, England (just a few miles from Margate) for the Viking ship that my son specifically wanted to see (The Hugin), a replica of a Viking longship built by Denmark in 1949 as a gift from the Danish government to Kent to mark the 1500th hundred year anniversary of when the Jutes settled in Kent as part of the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain in the 5th century.
So when visiting Margate there are more things to see than just sand, sea and tourists shops, amusement arcades and cafes and restaurants along the sea front.

🌊Margate. A seaside town you may prefer not to visit. #margate #seaside #england #placestovisit
During the late 20th century, the town went into decline along with other British seaside resorts. The 90s Eastern Europe vibe is everywhere around. However, the sandy beach remains pleasant.
Here is some advice if you decide to go:
- don't expect to find changing rooms (I couldn't locate any). Put on your swimsuit before you leave home.
- bring a bottle with you. You'll be able to refill it with tap water.
- if you're travelling from London, it's best to start your travel from St Pancras station. The trains tend to be quite packed during weekends. With a railcard, round-trip tickets on the Southeastern highspeed train would approximately cost £54 for two people.
- renting an umbrella costs £6, and you can expect to pay around £24 for a meal for two.
