Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

The transformation of Barnsley town centre

Barnsley is a proud market town with heritage in coal mining, glass making, and linen weaving. The closure of the mines devastated Barnsley, and just as we were finding our feet, austerity hit. Our funding has been cut by 50% since 2010.

On paper, anyone would think our options are limited, but our past has not, and will not, stop us from believing in Barnsley as the place of possibilities. We’re making our vision become a reality, for the future of our town.

We’ve invested £220 million into the award-winning Glass Works redevelopment in our town centre. It’s innovative – connecting leisure, retail, culture, learning and health. We have a state-of-the-art library, a flagship NHS diagnostics centre, one of the country’s first COVID-19 memorials, a centrepiece public square, 13 screen cinema, and a four-year Purple Flag accreditation. We’re connected to our roots, with a modern market experience including our fabulous Market Kitchen.

We’re passionate about making Barnsley the place of possibilities for our people, businesses, and visitors.

We’re proud to be LGC and MJ Council of the Year 2023.

Brookside Country Park 2021

ASKHAM: Bassetlaw Parish #26 of 66

Our journey through Bassetlaw takes us now into a different postcode area. Everything up to now has been within the bounds of DN22 (Retford), S81 or S80 (Worksop) or DN10 or DN11 (Doncaster). Today's parish sees us break into NEWARK, as this village lies within the boundaries of NG22.

With a population of just 181 people todays village is one of the smallest in the entire district, but honestly, I found this one quite charming. For one, if you come here, you're not going to be finding any amenities like a village shop or a post office. You will find a pub and a church but to be honest, that's about your lot, or so I thought until I discovered the Village Hall too.

What you'll find is a small corner of the world that just lets rural life pass it by with no questions asked. People out here are quite happy to just enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounding rolling countryside this part of Nottinghamshire affords them, and if you can stump up the £362,000 or so you'd need for the average property, then why not?

The village has a connection to the National Garden Scheme, a bridge that carries a section of the East Coast Main Line, a small substation and a book exchange. Not really selling this one much am I? Well perhaps one of the more interesting things here would be Amy Newton's Photography, a local camera wielder who uses the old granary at Manor Farm to provide people with some stunning photographic work.

Enjoy the surroundings, take a walk in this tiny village. Have a read of the information board about the church clock, and finish it all with a pint in The Duke William. Small but perfectly formed, this is ASKHAM.

My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands.

Join me as I try to visit every single parish in the district of Bassetlaw. There are 66. Here's the TWENTY-SIXTH one - Askham.

Towns in England – South Kirkby

What can you learn from South Kirkby, a town in England? Let’s travel to South Kirkby, one of the towns in England. This time, we’re not going to rank it. We don’t even want to discuss it as either a good or bad, beautiful or ugly, and richest or poorest town. Rather, we want to bring it to the limelight and prove that there’s much to learn about a town regardless of its size. Where is Kirkby located? What are its prominent features?
South Kirby in Perspective
South Kirkby is a small town in Wakefield in West Yorkshire. It is governed locally by the administration of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council. The town’s motto is “Friendship, Unity & Progress.” It’s a small former mining town in the Wakefield Metropolitan District. Surrounded by other former mining towns such as Hemsworth, South Elmsall, and Cudworth, it is close to the South Yorkshire border.
This little town is served by two railway stations situated 1.6 kilometers apart. One is Moorthorpe railway station on the line between Leeds and Sheffield with services being an hour on Monday to Saturday and two-hourly service on Sunday. And the other is South Elmsall railway station which is on the line between Doncaster and Leeds.
A Brief History of South Kirkby
The town appeared first in the 1086 Domesday Book and still retains the site of the ancient Saxon settlement. It was mentioned in the book as Cherchebi, which was one of the 6 manors held by Uctred. But it may also be thought to be settled even before the arrival of the ancient Norse believed to have arrived via Ireland around 900 A.D. We learned that the name Kirk-by means “church and settlement.”
Through the centuries, the ownership of this land passed through the hands of many families. Later, the Molyneux family who was Catholics purchased all of the manor lands in the 16th Century and the semblance of that continuity existed. Despite the pressures of the English Reformation, this family retained their religious beliefs and never converted to the Church of England until after the marriage of Charles William Molyneux in 1768.
For centuries, there was a Mill in the town and the flooding of land by the use of dams caused many legal disputes in the 14th century. That Corn Mill was in use until it was destroyed by fire in the early 20th century. Various leadership changes, reformation, revolution, and industrialization have transformed the town throughout the centuries.
Population and Demography of South Kirkby
The small town with a population of more than 10,000 occupies a total area of 2,450 square kilometers. This shows a density of about 3,711 residents per square kilometer. It has experienced an annual population growth of 0.69 percent since 2011, according to the ONS.
In South Kirkby, there are slightly more females than males. The females numbering 4,583, represent 50.4 percent while the 4,510 males in the town represent 49.6 percent of the population. The majority of the residents, 5,268 which is 57.9 percent are between the ages of 18 to 64. While 24.1 percent numbering 2,194 are minors under 18, only 17.9 percent of the people in this town are 65 years and above and they’re 1,631.
The town is made up of 98.9 percent White residents numbering 8,439. Other ethnic groups in South Kirkby are 24 Asians, 19 Blacks, 4 Arabs, 45 mixed or multiple ethnicities, and just two from others. About 72 percent, which is 5,789 residents of this town are Christians while 21 of them are Muslims. They also have 5 Hinduists among them with 1 Jewish, 2 Buddhists, and 24 professing other religions with as many as 2,124 claiming that are non-religious.

York Minster is one of England's greatest Gothic Buildings and the repository for the largest single collection of medieval stained glass in Britain, most of which remains in situ. This cathedral of the northern province, which every year attracts thousands of pilgrims and visitors, was built over a period of more than 300 years. This book charts the construction of the Minster as we see it today and traces its development, which was by no means smooth and uninterrupted. Progress was checked by financial constraint, Scottish wars, the effects of plague, political upheaval, structural crisis, local rebellion and sometimes the indifference of the archbishop and Minister clergy. For many years at a time the liturgy for the Minster was performed against a backdrop of scaffolding and half-built masonry. The analysis of the Minster in this book is based on the architectural recording of the building begun in the early 1970s by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, which subsequently merged with English Heritage. The book not only provides an invaluable summary of the state of our understanding of the building, but also offers new insights into aspects of its complex story.
