Thinking that the word as too long to pronounce and to shorter the name, they precisely omitted the first two letters from the word PAPAG – P and A – producing therefore the PAG. With the combination of the word PAG and BILAO, the word PAGBILAO finally originated and since then, the place was called PAGBILAO

Saint Anne Parish and Diocesan Shrine: A Journey of Faith.
Welcome to the Saint Anne Parish and Diocesan Shrine in Pagbilao, Quezon. Join us on a journey through time and faith as we explore the rich history and significance of this sacred place. Our story begins in the year 1908 when the Grupo initiated their annual feast and built the first Ermita on land belonging to Silverio Merluza. This humble beginning marked the birth of Saint Anne Parish and Diocesan Shrine. World War II brought challenges, with the Ermita area serving as a cemetery. Yet, the community's faith remained unshaken. In 1952, the first parish church was constructed, serving five barangays. Angel and Canding Glorioso played a pivotal role in the shrine's development. They acquired a new image of Saint Anne and inspired the community to improve the Ermita, leading to the construction of a sturdier structure. In 1960, a new parish church was constructed, expanding over the years to accommodate the growing number of devotees and pilgrims. The church was blessed and consecrated in 1983. Over time, special additions like the Candle Park and belfry enhanced the shrine's beauty, making it a place of spiritual significance for many. In 2000, the shrine was declared a JUBILEE PILGRIM CHURCH OF LUCENA and later received the honor of being proclaimed a Diocesan Shrine. The shrine holds relics of Saint Anne and other saints, connecting the faithful to their spiritual heritage. In 2008, Saint Anne Parish celebrated its 50th anniversary as a parish, a momentous occasion graced by the presence of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Today, the Saint Anne Parish and Diocesan Shrine stands as a symbol of unwavering faith, a testament to the dedication of its founders and the devotion of its parishioners. It continues to be a place of worship, reflection, and spiritual growth, welcoming all who seek solace and inspiration in its hallowed halls.
