If you are planning to visit Udine, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Udine.

In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Libertà Square, Loggia del Lippomano, Udine Castle, Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata, Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, Piazza XX Settembre, Church of San Francesco
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Udine and tips for nearby attractions.

First of all, suggestions on FOOD and ACCOMMODATIONS:
- Where to have a MEAL: “Al Marinaio”,
- ACCOMMODATIONS: Casa Stucky, +39 333 5407646

WHAT
Udine is a town with squares of Venetian charm and ancient buildings: from Piazza Libertà, defined as the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland, to Piazza Matteotti (or Herbal) which, all surrounded by porticos, seems to be an open-air lounge; here you can observe the slideshow of ancient and colourful historical buildings which impart the spirit of Udine.
On the hill of the town rises the castle : from its walls you can see the whole city, the mountains all around it, whereas to the south, less than an hour's drive away, there is the Adriatic Sea.

In the eighteenth century, Udine was the city of Giambattista Tiepolo who reached his artistic maturity here: today, his masterpieces can be admired in the Gallerie del Tiepolo (in the Patriarchal Palace), in the Duomo (Cathedral), and in the Chiesa della Purità. Today, Udine is a city that is open to innovation while tying its image to authentic taverns where one of the most-loved rituals is celebrated namely, the tasting of a goblet of wine (tajut) all in a very human and cordial atmosphere.

Friulian cooking, cultural events and traditional festivals (such as Friuli Doc), make of Udine an inviting place for an unforgettable holiday or weekend break.

HOW
Udine is 1 hour and a half by car from Venice and 1 hour from Udine and Tarvisio (on the border with Austria and Slovenia).
I suggest you to park at the Parking Piazza I Maggio and, from there, to follow this tour.
In the description of this video you’ll find the best tips on where to eat and where to stay overnight.
If you are in Udine, do not miss the opportunity to also visit Cividale del Friuli and Palmanova.

WHY
Visit Udine if you want to see fascinating Venetian style squares and fine old palaces, without being surrounded by mass tourism.

Things To Do In SAN GIMIGNANO, Italy | TOP 10

Things To Do In SAN GIMIGNANO Italy. San Gimignano Top 10 Travel Guide. I will show you my favourite 10 Things To Do In San Gimignano. I’m Rok and I’ve spent last 8 years travelling around Europe as a tour guide. In this San Gimignano travel guide I will take you around beautiful medieval hill top town to show you my favourite Top 10 San Gimignano places.

What To Do in San Gimignano:
0:00 / Introduction

0:20 / 10. SAFFRON: It is not an obvious one, but you will find it on the menu of all the restaurants in town. Saffron is a very expensive spice that gives a yellow-orange coloring to foods that is still produced here. Without Saffron, there would be no San Gimignano as we know it. Saffron brought great wealth to the city, and it financed the tower building. It has repeatedly saved San Gimignano because it was used as currency to pay off debts incurred during the wars.

0:55 / 9. San Gimignano 1300: a museum, artwork and experience. Here you can find recreated scenes of medieval street life and find out why most of the towers collapsed. The main attraction is an impressive 27 square meters or 290 square feet model of the city from 1300 made of hand painted clay.

1:45 / 8. CAMPATELLI HOUSE & TOWER: There used to be 72 ancient towers and only 14 have survived to today. This 28-metre high tower house belonged to Campatelli family. They left this house to the public and inside you can learn about 1,000-year history of San Gimignano and see how the families lived.

2:37 / 7. GELATO: one of the most delicious landmarks in the history of landmarks! To call it an ice cream would be a big understatement. This is more like art. And when you add this fantastic main square with towers …. I think no other gelato experience can compete with this one.
They even have medals and plaques claiming the best gelato in the world. Actually I can see two world best gelato places. So if you are not sure which one is the best, you should try both. I recommend local flavours like saffron or Vernaccia.

4:13 / 6. ROCCA OF MONTESTAFFOLI: the top of the tower that was part of the fortress built by the Florentines in 13 hundred. At the time the town submitted to Florence to protect it from Siena and internal riots. Florentines built a massive fortress to house its soldiers. And this tower is almost all that is left. Today this is hilltop park that offers best free of charge views over the skyline.

4:54 / 5. CITY WALLS & GATES: You can walk along the perimeter of the 13th-century city walls. The walk is about 2.1 kilometer or 1,3 miles, passing massive portals and enjoying splendid views.

5:37 / 4. SANT'AGOSTINO: plain looking brick church was built in 13 century. But looks can be deceiving. The interior is hiding amazing 15th-century frescoes, showing 19 scenes from the life of Saint Augustine, from his boyhood in North Africa to his death. For art lovers, this is one of the most important things to see in San Gimignano.

6:35 / 3. PALAZZZO DEL POPOLO & TOWER: 13 century town hall famous for its tower, known as the Fat Tower. It is the tallest in town at 54 meters. When wealthy families in San Gimignano looked for ways to protect themselves they started to build tower houses. Tower building soon turned into a competition. The rivalry finally stopped when the local council passed a law that no tower was to be taller than this one. The town hall houses The Civic Museum, Art Gallery and offers access to the top of its tower.

7:45 / 2. SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA: simple looking Roman Catholic church is the main church in town. It was consecrated in 1148 in the presence of Pope himself. On the outside, it doesn't look particularly impressive, but on the inside it is spectacular. Walls are covered with some of the most outstanding frescos from the 14th century. There are whole cycles of different scenes that are telling stories from the Bible. And they also store relics of Sant Geminianus, the patron of the town.

9:13 / 1. PIAZZA DELLA CISTERNA: 13 century square is surrounded by towers and it is the heart of San Gimignano. It served as a market place, stage for festivals, tournament and all major events. The square got its name after big underground cistern, that lies under this square and was used to provide drinking water for the city. That is why in the middle of the square sits this stone well. All around you can find shops and cafes where you can sit down and admire the view.

Places to see in ( Udine - Italy )

Places to see in ( Udine - Italy )

Udine is a city in northeastern Italy. The hilltop Udine Castle is home to several museums and an art gallery with works by Tiepolo and Caravaggio. It has views of the city and surrounding mountains. The central Piazza della Libertà has Renaissance buildings, including the pink-and-white-marble Loggia del Lionello and a clock tower. Udine Cathedral has a baroque interior and a museum of religious decorative arts.

While reluctantly ceding its premier status to Trieste in the 1950s, this confident, wealthy provincial city remains the spiritual and gastronomic capital of Friuli. Udine gives little away in its sprawling semi-rural suburbs, but encased inside the peripheral ring road lies an infinitely grander medieval centre: a dramatic melange of Venetian arches, Grecian statues and Roman columns. The old town is pristine, but also very lively: bars here are not just for posing, for the Udinese, kicking on is the norm. As well as its culinary and vinous pleasures, the city also has a handful of excellent museums; this was the second home of Tiepolo and there's a number of his works spread over a few sites. You'll often get to see these marvellous works in only your own company.

Udine is a quiet and stately provincial capital - and also the unofficial capital of Friuli, which comprises the largest part of the Region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. While the once-great seaport of Trieste is the regional capital and reigns over the coast, Udine presides over the region's inland plains and its Alpine peaks. For centuries Udine was a Venetian city - in contrast to Trieste, which was part of the Austrian Empire. Today, Friuli is known as a region of wines, prosciutto di San Daniele and Montasio cheese. Udine is an excellent location to taste these products and to start a visit to this less traveled part of Italy.

Castello di Udine from the monumental staircase of Udine's Castle, which rises on a low hill about the city, you can admire the Julian Alps rising above the Friuli Plains. The Castle hosts the City Museums of art and archeology. In the map rooms on the top floor, you can see how Udine and surrounding Friuli shifted from being part of the medieval Patriarch of Aquilea to the Venetian Republic, then the Austrian Empire and finally, Italy. The church of Santa Maria di Castello, next to the Castle, is coloured by beautiful frescoes.

Piazza Liberta' at the foot of the Castle hill is Piazza Liberta', which the tourist office calls the most beautiful square in Venetian style on earth. Here you find the Loggia del Lionello, built in the 1400s, and across the street, the Tower of the Two Moors, giant statues (similar to those in St Mark's Square in Venice) on either side of a huge bell. They ring the hours.

Cathedral down Via Vittorio Veneto from Piazza Liberta' is Udine's broad Cathedral (or Duomo) dates from the 1200s, and contains works by Tiepolo and others. The newly re-opened Ethnographic Museum, on Borgo Grazzano, has a fascinating collection that illustrate rural life in Friuli.

Friuli DOC is a fabulous food and wine festival with entertainment held each year in Udine. This beautiful Venetian-influenced city has its own culinary twist on many Italian dishes and is the home to superb cured meats, cheeses and delicious wines which are often available in the best UK restaurants. 10th - 13th September 2015 and annually.

( Udine - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Udine . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Udine - Italy
