Bengaluru Rural District, established in 1986, is one of the 30 districts in Karnataka. It was formed by splitting Bengaluru into Bangalore (Rural) and Bangalore (city). Currently, the district is divided into 2 divisions, consisting of 4 taluks, 35 hoblis, 1,713 villages, and 177 densely populated villages, with 105 gram panchayats. The district's proximity to Bangalore city has a significant impact, resulting in a substantial population. While the rural population is primarily engaged in agriculture, the area is witnessing growth in the service and IT industries due to the establishment of SEZs. Notably, Devanahalli houses the 95 billion Devanahalli Business Park near Bangalore International Airport.
As per the 2001 census, the district's total population is 1,881,514, with a population density of 309 persons per km2, accounting for 21.65% of the city's population. Bangalore Rural District has a significant population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, comprising 22.5% of the total population. Hinduism is the predominant religion in this district. While agriculture remains the primary occupation, the district also focuses on industrialization, dairy development, and silk farming.
The district is known for its cultivation of various crops, including silk, rice, peanuts, sugarcane, castor, grapes, and mulberry. It boasts a well-developed infrastructure, encompassing transportation, communication, banking, debt, and marketing facilities. Although the region lacks abundant mineral resources, it utilizes its metallic mineral resources for brick-making, edging, and stoneware. Weaving has been a significant occupation for a large portion of the population for many years. The soil and climatic conditions are conducive to mulberry cultivation, silk worm rearing, silk production, and other agriculture-based industries. The Karnataka government has proposed renaming Bangalore's rural district to Kempe Gowda. Additionally, in September 2007, the talukas of Kanakapura, Ramanagar, Magadi, and Channapatna were merged into Ramanagar district.

Mahimapura, Mahimapura village is located in Nelamangala Taluk of Bangalore Rural district in Karnataka, India. It is situated 15km away from Nelamangala and 45 km away fromBangalore City. According to the epic ancient books like Vishnupurana and Brahmavaivartha Purana, Lord Sri Vishnu took several avataras to teach his devotees lessons of life. Apart from his ten great incarnations he also appeared in several forms like Varadaraja, Ranganathaswamy or Hayagriva.
Mahima Ranganatha swamy appeared a round shaped small stone, which is unique. The temple, dedicated to this form of the lord is situated near Dobbspet on Bangalore-Tumkur Road. The temple is situated on a small hilltop, and can be reached after climbing 310 steps. The name of the village is also Mahimapura and can be reached either from Mahimapura Cross near Dobbspet or from Neelamangala as well. There other places like Shivagange, Kachgal Hill, Heggunda Hill, Mandaragiri, Mydala kere, Siddaganga mutt, Kengal Betta, Shivagange Hills, Bhairavadurga are other attractions.

Diganahalli village is located in Devanahalli Tehsil of Bangalore Rural district in Karnataka, India. It is situated 12km away from sub-district headquarter Devanahalli and 51km away from district headquarter Bangalore Rural. The special attraction of this place is this Dam which is covered by the mountains on all 3 sides. The riding beside those hills is an amazing feeling too. You will have to go through village roads for about 10km to reach this dam. The place is calm and beautiful. If it's cloudy then it's more beautiful!

Makalidurga is a hill fort situated near the village of the same name. It is 60 km north of Bangalore and 10 km after Doddaballapura on the way to Gauribidanur. The fort at the summit has an old temple of Shiva with Nandi and in legend Markandeya Rishi performed penance here.
Makalidurga Fort stands at the top of a huge granite hillock, huddled up amidst the chains of hills, formed like a valley close to Ghati Subramanya, a well-known pilgrimage center. It has a fort on top, at a height of 1,117 m.
It has become one of the trekking destination for adventurers. Many people go for night trek to this place.
Trekking
The Makalidurga trek is the nearest railway trek to Bangalore. It begins with a 2-km walk on the railway track from the station of Makalidurga. One can also ride bikes to the beginning of the trekking trail as well. A lot of refreshments is advised to be carried in case one wants to trek this hillock.
Makalidurga trek is of a medium/difficult level. The total trek route is 4 km in length, which should take approximately 3 hours to complete. There is a parking space created for vehicles in the base of the hill. One has to just cross the railway track and turn left. There is a small temple and some houses at the base of the trek. It is where the trek starts. The trek is managed by Karnataka Tourism department and one needs to make a prior booking on their official website myecotrip.com, which charges a sum of ₹250 Indian rupees per adult. Karnataka Tourism provides a guide and local support for the charge. There is a public notice by Karnataka Forest Department as follows: Makali hills comes under Makali Reserve Forest. This place is under the supervision of Doddaballapur forest department. Illegal trekking is prohibited, which is an offence under Section 24(C)II of Karnataka Forest Act-1963. Strictly illegal trekking is restricted. But on the public and trekkers demand, department provided the facility for trekking through online booking in website Night trekking not allowed. Morning 0600am to 0500pm only. Also, after a few meters, one can find an open ground with a view of the mountain. Turning right, would lead one to the trek path with markings all around. There are fort ruins and a temple at the top.

Kabbaldurga is a ruined fort located in Bangalore rural district, Karnataka. It is at a distance of 80 km from Bangalore.Murari Rao Ghorpade, 18th century Maratha chieftain who controlled Gooty was defeated by Hyder Ali in 1776 AD and kept in Kabbaldurga fort till death. Murari Rao surrendered and sent to this fort along with his family members.During British Raj, convicts were thrown off the cliff of this port, as a punishment.As it is near Bangalore, it is a favourite trekking destination, which is a medium trekking.Old and crumbling buildings on top of the fort represent a prison, garrison, ammunition storage godown and there are small temples of Bheemalilngeshwara and Kabbalamma temple.
Kabbaladurga is one of 9 durgas near Bangalore and a must visit place. It is best to visit early in the morning and in groups. Difficulty level is medium. Have enough water and energy drink/dry fruits etc. A good grip shoe would definitely give confidence along with comfortable dress.
