AYA-AYA WATERFALLS | LUGAIT, MISAMIS ORIENTAL | Everyday Shatz

Aya-aya Falls is a multi-tiered alluring architecture of falling water uniting two barangays of the Municipality of Lugait. It’s water springs from Barangay Aya-aya cascading into 22 individual water falls (but I just only feature 10) ending it’s trail at Barangay Upper Talacogon. Travelers can enjoy the thrill of trekking and adventure climbing ascending to its peak, free diving to extreme plunging, a little fishing and boating in between steps or simply have a picnic, relishing on the grace and character of the falling water, ultimately communing with nature.

THE TOP 30 MOST BEAUTIFUL TOURIST SPOTS IN MINDANAO PHILIPPINES TO TRAVEL | ATTRACTIONS | PLACES

Why Mindanao is a good tourist destination?
Nestled in the southern part of the Philippines, Mindanao is a lush tropical paradise filled with stunning natural wonders, cultural diversity, and adventure activities. The island's stunning landscapes attract tourists who are looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Cultural diversity and the island's natural beauty make Mindanao one of Asia's favored tourist destinations. White sand beaches, scenic volcanoes, vast orchid gardens, and various ethnic festivals are only some of its unique tourist attractions.

Mindanao Island is a large island in the southern region of the Philippines best known for its beautiful beaches, incredible forests, rich history and tropical fruit trade. It's the second largest island in the country.

Mindanao, island, the second largest (after Luzon) in the Philippines, in the southern part of the archipelago, surrounded by the Bohol, Philippine, Celebes, and Sulu seas. Irregularly shaped, it measures 293 miles (471 km) north to south and 324 miles (521 km) east to west.

What is beautiful about Mindanao?
From their majestic waterfalls to pristine white sand beaches, to hopping from one beautiful island to another, Mindanao is a great tourist destination for nature lovers and foreign tourists visiting southeast Asia.

Mindanao is outside the typhoon belt. Mindanao covers 97,530 square kilometers. It is the eighth-most populous island in the world, and larger than 125 countries, including South Korea, Austria, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Ireland.

MINDANAO is known as the land of promise because of its rich biodiversity and natural resources. The land holds an incredible wealth from nature, but also has dark moments of truth

Northern Mindanao is an administrative region in the Philippines, officially designated as Region X. It is blessed with natural wonders: large, protected forests white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and sheltered bays rich with aquatic life.

A day in Iligan City! ☀️🌴

#Shorts #IliganCity #NorthernMindanao #LanaoDelNorte #LaaganSaIligan #Mindanao

Another solo backpacking experience and this is the farthest I've been from my home so far!

After my Camiguin trip, I headed back to Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental to go white water rafting. But unfortunately, the minimum number of pax was not met for the said activity. There were no other tourists booked for that day. Haaay joiner life.

I decided to proceed to my next plan. I made a quick side-trip to REDGs Green Village Camping Site and Wellness Hub in Naawan, Misamis Oriental and then headed to Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

Iligan is known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls because of the presence of numerous waterfalls in it. There are 23 waterfalls to be exact, as per the local government, and we were able to visit three of them.

First, we dropped by the Paseo de Santiago, a park where you can see the iconic 'PHILIPPINES' and 'ILIGAN CITY' sign, and a relief map of the Philippine archipelago.

The next stop is the popular Maria Christina Falls, which I used to see in elementary textbooks. It is the primary source of electric power for the city's industries, being harnessed by the National Power Corporation. The place is currently restricted to tourists and not open to the public, but I was lucky enough to be allowed to take a quick peek inside since I mentioned I traveled far just to see its wonder in person.

After that, we went to Mimbalot Falls, one of the most accessible falls in the city. Located in Brgy. Buru-un, this waterfall is the most appealing to me and a very picturesque small-sized fall.

Lastly, we visited Tinago Falls, which literally means “hidden” in Filipino. This waterfall is hidden in a deep, narrow valley with steep sides, and to get there, you must descend 300+ steps. The place is a good venue for swimming and cliff diving. Additionally, there is a tiny cave alongside the falls that can only be reached by swimming or rafting.

On our way back to my accommodation, we drove along Maria Christina Bridge, where you can get a view of the cascading Agus River or the top view of Maria Christina Falls.

Overall, this was a fun and memorable experience. I cannot wait to come back to Mindanao and explore more!

📍 How to get here?

From Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro as entry point, ride a van going to Bulua Integrated Bus Terminal.
Ride a bus going to Iligan Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal.

Mindanao, often overlooked by travelers, is a hidden gem in the Philippines that offers an incredible mix of stunning landscapes, rich culture, and budget-friendly travel options. From towering mountain ranges to crystal-clear waters, Mindanao is a paradise waiting to be discovered.
One of the biggest misconceptions about traveling to beautiful destinations like Mindanao is that it's expensive and out of reach for budget travelers. People often think that exploring paradise comes with a hefty price tag, but that's far from the truth. With the right mindset and some insider tips, you can experience the best of Mindanao without breaking the bank.
In reality, Mindanao offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget. You can find guesthouses and hostels for as low as $10 a night, and if you're willing to venture out of the city center, you can even find private rooms for rent for just $5 a night. Of course, you get what you pay for, but if you're willing to rough it out, you can save a pretty penny on accommodation costs.
Another myth-busting fact is that food in Mindanao is incredibly affordable. Street food stalls and local eateries offer delicious meals for as low as $2, and if you're feeling adventurous, you can even try some exotic fruits and snacks for pennies on the dollar. And if you're staying in one place for a while, you can even take advantage of cooking your own meals to save even more.
But what really sets Mindanao apart is its stunning natural beauty. From the majestic waterfalls of Iligan to the crystal-clear waters of Siargao, there's no shortage of breathtaking landscapes to explore. And the best part? Most of these attractions are completely free or cost very little to visit. You can easily spend days exploring the region's many beaches, caves, and mountains without spending a fortune.

When it comes to exploring Mindanao on a budget, it's all about being smart and resourceful. One of the best tips I can give you is to stay in locally-owned accommodations, eat at street food stalls, and take advantage of public transportation. Not only will you save money, but you'll also get a more authentic taste of the local culture.

For example, did you know that you can explore the stunning Tubbataha Reef National Park for just $20? Or that you can take a scenic bus ride from Davao to Cagayan de Oro for just $5? These are just a few examples of how you can experience the best of Mindanao without overspending.

If you're planning to visit Mindanao, I highly recommend creating a budget travel itinerary that allows you to experience the region's highlights without breaking the bank. One of my favorite itineraries is to start in Davao and make your way to Siargao, stopping at the stunning Aliwagwag Falls and the picturesque Lake Sebu along the way. Not only will you get to experience some of the region's most stunning natural beauty, but you'll also get to immerse yourself in the local culture and try some delicious local cuisine.

One of the most unforgettable experiences I had in Mindanao was taking a sunrise hike to the top of Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines. Not only was the hike itself an incredible adventure, but the stunning views from the top were truly breathtaking. And the best part? The entire hike, including a guide and transportation, cost less than $50.
