#1 The Varna Opera is an opera house in Varna, Bulgaria. It is part of the Opera and Philharmonic Society of Varna, founded by a merger of the Opera House and Philharmonic Society in 1999. The theatre itself originally opened in 1947.
#2 Sofia is the capital of the Balkan nation of Bulgaria. It’s in the west of the country, below Vitosha Mountain. The city’s landmarks reflect more than 2,000 years of history, including Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet occupation. Medieval Boyana Church has 13th-century frescoes. Built by the Romans in the 4th century, St. George Rotunda Church has medieval and Ottoman decoration dating to the 10th century.
#3 The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes, situated in the northwestern Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are situated between 2,100 and 2,500 metres elevation above sea level.
Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature. The highest one is called Salzata (The Tear) due to its clear waters that allow visibility in depth. The next one in height carries the name Okoto (The Eye) after its almost perfectly oval form. Okoto is the deepest cirque lake in Bulgaria, with a depth of 37.5 m. Babreka (The Kidney) is the lake with the steepest shores of the entire group. Bliznaka (The Twin) is the largest one by area. Trilistnika (The Trefoil) has an irregular shape and low shores. The shallowest lake is Ribnoto Ezero (The Fish Lake) and the lowest one is Dolnoto Ezero (The Lower Lake), where the waters that flow out of the other lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River.
The Seven Lakes are a tourist attraction in Bulgaria because of its natural environment. The lakes are located one above the other and are connected by small streams, which form tiny waterfalls and cascades. Tourist accommodation in the lakes' vicinity include a chalet on the northeastern shore of The Fish Lake, at an elevation of 2,196 m.[citation needed] The most common time to visit the lakes is summer, in July and August, when temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius and the risk of sudden storms is lower.[citation needed] During the rest of the year the weather can be severe.[citation needed] The lakes usually freeze during October, and do not melt before June. The ice cover can reach up to 2 meters.
#4 Ruse is in the northeastern part of the country, on the right bank of the Danube, opposite the Romanian city of Giurgiu, approximately 75 km (47 mi) south of Bucharest, Romania's capital, 200 km (124 mi) from the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and 300 km (186 mi) from the capital Sofia. Thanks to its location and its railway and road bridge over the Danube (Danube Bridge), it is the most significant Bulgarian river port, serving an important part of the international trade of the country.
Ruse is known for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture, which attracts many tourists. It is often called the Little Vienna. The Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge, until 14 June 2013 the only one in the shared Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube, crosses the river here.
Ruse is the birthplace of the Nobel laureate in Literature Elias Canetti and the writer Michael Arlen.
Ruse is on the right bank of the river Danube, which is the high bank, having two underwater terraces and three river terraces at 15 to 22 m (49.21–72.18 ft), 30 to 66 m (98.43–216.54 ft), and 54 to 65 m (177.17–213.25 ft). The average altitude is 45.5 m (149.28 ft) AMSL. The urban area is an approximately 11-km ellipse running along the river. The city extends from the land-connected Matey (Матей) island and the mouth of Rusenski Lom on the west to Srabcheto (Сръбчето) hill on the east. During the 20th century, the west end of the city was significantly modified by moving the mouth of Rusenski Lom to the west, as well as by moving the bank itself with its fairway considerably to the north. Sarabair (саръбаир, from Turkish Sarıbayır meaning Yellow Slope) hill is to the south of the city and is 159 m (521.65 ft) high. The Rousse TV Tower is built there on the remains of Leventtabia, a former Turkish fortification.
#5 Bansko is a town at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, which are part of Pirin National Park, in southwest Bulgaria. It’s a gateway to numerous ski and snowboard slopes on Todorka Peak, including the challenging Tomba run. Footpaths cross the park’s craggy alpine landscape, home to bears and wolves. The park is also known for the high-altitude Vihren Peak, with forested ridges and striking glacial lakes.

Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I've made over 150 Youtube videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. Rock hewn Churches of Ivanovo and Rusenski Lom Nature Park Bulgaria
The Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo located 20 km south of Ruse, in the valley of the Russensky Lom river. There have been several rock monasteries. An outstanding example is the monastery complex of the Archangel St Michael which has outstanding preserved frescoes (13th/14th century). In 1978 declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the rock monastery complex is a top attraction. Established and inhabited in the 13th century by monk Yoakim, who later became a Bulgarian Patriarch, it was patronised by Bulgarian Emperors Ivan Asen (1218-1241), Ivan Alexander (1331-1371) and members of the Royal Bulgarian Court. Some parts were in use until the 17th century. Most famous are the frescoes of the Holy Virgin Mary Church.

Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo, Bulgaria, included by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage Sites
In the valley of the Roussenski Lom River, in north east Bulgaria, a complex of rock-hewn churches, chapels, monasteries and cells developed in the vicinity of the village of Ivanovo. This is where the first hermits had dug out their cells and churches during the 12th century. The 14th-century murals testify to the exceptional skill of the artists belonging to the Tarnovo School of painting.
The frescos of the Ivanovo churches reveal an exceptional artistry and a remarkable artistic sensitivity for 14th century painting and Bulgarian medieval art; they are an important achievement in the Christian art of South-Eastern Europe. Posterior to the Khora monastery mosaics (Karia Djami) of 1303 - 10, these frescoes, by their very expressiveness surpass any other historical monuments discovered, characteristic of the Palaeologues style. Neo-classical in spirit and in elements of their subjects, the frescoes represent a departure from the canons of Byzantine iconography. They show close ties with expressive Hellenistic art and a clear preference for the nude, the landscape, an architectural background in a composition, drama, an emotional atmosphere - qualities which combine to make an exceptional masterpiece of the Tarnovo school of painting and monumental art.
The five historical monuments in this group (chapels, churches, etc.), dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, serve as examples that pave the way for the distinctive character development, and mastery in the art of the Second Bulgarian State /1187-1396/. The richness, the variety of the cells, chapels, churches, monastery complexes, the original architectural solutions - all set in a magnificent natural environment - confirm the value of this extraordinary historical grouping.

The rock monastery in Basarbovo Bulgaria
Basarbovo Monastery (Басарбовски манастир) or the Monastery of Saint Dimitar Basarbovski is a Bulgarian orthodox cave monastery. The monastery is located in the valley of Rusenski Lom River 10 km from the city of Ruse, south of the Danube.
The rock monastery in Basarbovo is one of the unique sights in the region since it is the only active rock monastery in Bulgaria.
It dates back to the period the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (12-14 century), but the earliest data come from the Ottoman tax records in 16th century. The most famous resident is Saint Dimitar Basarbovski. Even Paisius of Hilendar mentions him in his work “Istoriya slavyanobalgarska” (“Slavonic-Bulgarian History”). During the Russo-Turkish War (1768-1774), the saint’s relics were moved to Bucharest and placed in the church “St. St. Konstantin and Elena” where they are kept today. In 1937 a monk named Hrisant started living in the monastery and restored it. A significant place not only for the region, but for the Bulgarian Church and all Christians.
