Lodi is a city and comune in Lombardy, northern Italy, on primarily on the western bank of the River Adda. Lodi was a Celtic village; in Roman times it was called, in Latin, Laus Pompeia (probably in honour of the consul Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo) and was known also because its position allowed many Gauls of Gallia Cisalpina to obtain Roman citizenship.
It was in an important position where a vital Roman road crossed the River Adda.
The city contains several monuments: Piazza della Vittoria, PIazza Broletto and the church of Beata Vergine Incoronata.

LODI (Lombardia).
La città di Lodi fu fondata il 3 agosto 1158 da Federico Barbarossa, in seguito alla distruzione dell'antico borgo di Laus Pompeia, già municipium romano, sede vescovile e libero comune.
Durante il Rinascimento conobbe un periodo di grande splendore artistico e culturale, dopo aver ospitato nel 1454 la firma dello storico trattato tra gli Stati preunitari italiani noto come pace di Lodi.
The Lodi city was founded on August 3, 1158, by Frederick Barbarossa, following the destruction of the ancient village of Laus Pompeia, formerly a Roman municipium, bishop's seat and free commune.
During the Renaissance it experienced a period of great artistic and cultural splendor, having hosted in 1454 the signing of the historic treaty between the pre-unification Italian states known as the Peace of Lodi.
