3 days in Xi'an - TOP Attractions Terracotta Warriors + more | CHINA
If you've ever dreamed of seeing the terracotta warriors, seeing the most well preserved ancient fortress in the world or simply eating some of the best hand pulled noodles then Xi'an needs to go on your travel bucket list.
We're joined by our parents who flew all the way from NZ for this special family trip. We made our way around some of Xi'an's most prominent landmarks. 3 days of adventure starting with visiting The Terracotta Army.
We have always wanted to see the terracotta army in Xian China. We were fortunate enough to see a few of the terracotta warriors in an exhibition shown at Te Papa (Wellington, NZ) not too long ago but seeing the actual terracotta warriors / terracotta army pit in Xi'an, China itself where they have been and still are being excavated is simply amazing.
Insanely crowded but it's a must visit attraction when in Xian China to visit the terracotta army.
Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum (Terracotta Warriors)
Address: Lintong, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, 710612
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–5pm
Xi'an is well known for its delicious Chinese noodles so we hit up a local restaurant for a bowl of mouth watering hand pulled Xi'an noodles. We both love Xian noodles so getting to have them in Xian China itself was so good!
We then visited the Small Wild Goose Pagoda sometimes also known as Little Wild Goose Pagoda which is one of two significant pagodas in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The other being the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Both pagodas are important Buddhist sites, dating back to the Tang Dynasty around 1,300 years ago.
Finally we took a walk along Xian's city fortress also known as Xi'an City Wall and Fortifications of Xi'an. It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China and also one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Definitely another must visit when in Xi'an China. We went closer to the evening and was able to enjoy and capture a beautiful sunset over Xi'an too.
Location: Around the city center of Xi’an
Four Main Gates: East Gate (Changle Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), North Gate (Anyuan Gate)
You can get your tickets at any of these gates.
The next day we visited one of the most famous mountains of China which is Mount Hua aka Huashan. The area is huge so there are multiple different routes you can take. We decided to go on a cable car up Huashan mountain for our parents' sake. The cable car line starts from Donggoukou to West Peak with a stop at White Sparrow Temple. The whole ride is about 4,211 meters (2.6 miles) long and takes about 20 minutes.
Later on that evening we return to check out Muslim Street as well as the Great Mosque of Xi'an. The Great Mosque of Xi'an despite it being a mosque is unique because of its ancient Chinese architecture. It's a nice quiet place to visit especially if you're needing a break from the super loud and busy Muslim Street.
Muslim Street in Xi'an is packed with a lot of streetfood, restaurants and souvenir stalls. Definitely another top place to visit when in Xi'an China. After a full day of adventure we find ourselves some more delicious hand pulled noodles because when in Xi'an, you must get as much Xi'an noodles as you can in you 😁
Muslim Street
Address: Huajue Alley, Zhong Lou Shang Quan, Lianhu, Xi'an, China
For our final day our family went to Shaanxi History Museum. Shaanxi History Museum was the first modern national museum in China and definitely worth visiting if you enjoy learning about ancient Chinese history.
Address: 91 Xiaozhai E Rd, Xiao Zhai Shang Ye Jie, Yanta, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday - 8am–6pm

Discovered in 1974, this astonishing archaeological site showcases thousands of life-sized terracotta soldiers, horses, and chariots, all meticulously crafted to guard the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Each terracotta figure is detailed and unique, making this site a fascinating study of ancient art.
Located to the east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum in the Lintong District of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, the Terracotta Army pits form the core part of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum Site Museum. The site is divided into three main pits, covering a total area of about 20,000 square meters. Nearly 8,000 terracotta soldiers and horses are arrayed in the pits, presenting a grand and magnificent sight.
Pit 1 is the largest, covering an area of about 14,260 square meters in a rectangular shape. This pit contains the main force of infantry and chariots, with around 6,000 terracotta figures. Three things you must see in china #shorts #travel #china
Three things you must see in china
1. Terracota Army
It was while digging wells on the outskirts of Xi'an in the 1970s that farmers stumbled across what was to be China's most important archeological find: the Terracotta Army. Distributed over three large underground pits and built to guard the First Emperor's tomb, the find included more than 8,000 life-size warriors, some 520 horses, and more than 100 chariots, along with numerous other non-military characters dating from around 280 BC.
Although some were severely damaged due to the passing of time, many of the statues unearthed have been painstakingly re-assembled and stand as testament to the importance bestowed upon the emperor and the afterlife. The site - part of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum Site Park - is one of China's most important tourist destinations and offers the unforgettable experience of standing in front of this assembly of soldiers and horses as if inspecting a centuries-old parade. English language guided tours are available.

2. Forbidden City
China's largest and most important building, the Forbidden City (Zǐjìnchéng) - also known as the Imperial Palace - is situated in the very heart of Beijing and is a must-see when visiting the country. Started during the Yuan Dynasty between 1271-1368, much of the complex seen today was built between 1406 and 1420. Really many splendid palaces in one, this sprawlinng complex was the residence of 24 Ming and Qing Emperors, whose presence forbade the entry of anyone other than the imperial family and their courtesans.
Covering some 720,000 square meters and protected by a 10-meter-high wall with watchtowers and a wide moat, this massive complex consists of areas set aside for ceremonial and administrative purposes, as well as a private residence used by the emperor. While it can take many hours to see everything, highlights include the five white marble Golden River Bridges; the Hall of Supreme Harmony, a 35-meter-tall building housing the imperial throne; and the exquisite emperor's banquet hall (the Hall of Preserving Harmony); and the Palace Museum with its large collection of art and artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties (English language museum tours are available).
Other important attractions in the vicinity of the Imperial Palace include famous Tiananmen Square, and the Temple of Heaven, one of the country's most important religious sites, which dates back to the 15th century.

3. Great Wall of China
Nobody can be a true hero unless he has been on the Great Wall goes the popular Chinese saying, one that clearly demonstrates the importance placed upon this unique ancient monument.
The magnificent Great Wall of China - known in Chinese as 'Changcheng', or the 'Long Wall' - stretches more than 6,000 kilometers from the fortresses of Shanhaiguan in the east all the way to Jiayuguan in the west, passing through Hebei, Tientsin, Beijing - where the best preserved sections of the wall can be visited - Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and Gansu.
Averaging six to eight meters in height but rising as high as 16 meters - and wide enough in places for five horses or 10 men to pass - the wall boasts numerous battlements and watchtowers. Some of the wall's oldest fortifications date back as far as the 7th century BC, with the best-known areas added around 210 BC when its various sections were joined together.
Today, the most visited section of the wall is near Badaling Pass northwest of Beijing, easily reached by public transport or organized tours. Other restored sections worth a visit include the section near Gubeikou, 130 kilometers from Beijing; and in Mutianyu, just 70 kilometers northeast of Beijing.

TERRAKOTTA-ARMEIJA
Terrakotta-armeija on yksi Kiinan tunnetuimpia nähtävyyksiä ja yksi maailman kuuluisampia arkeologisia kaivauksia.
Tältä Kiinan ehkäpä mahtavimman keisarin, Qin Shi Huangdin, hautapaikalta on löydetty jo 8000 ihmisen kokoista savisotilasta sekä hevosta ja kaivaukset ovat edelleen kesken. Tiesitkö, että ensimmäisen Terrakottasotilaan löysi juopunut maanviljelijä?
Kävimme tutustumassa tähän mystiseen hautapaikkaan ja editoimme alla olevan videotarinan Terrakotta-armeijan kiehtovasta historiasta.
8 VINKKIÄ TERRAKOTTA-ARMEIJA VIERAILUA VARTEN
VINKKI 1 – Bussilla keskustasta: Terrakotta-armeijan luokse pääsee näppärästi julkisella bussilla Xi’anin rautatieasemalta (linja 5, bussi numero 306, päätepysäkille saakka). Matka kestää tunnin ja maksaa 7 yuania eli 1 euron. Bussit kulkevat 15 minuutin välein klo 7-19 välillä. Paikan nimi kiinaksi on 秦陵兵马俑 ja osoite on Qinling North Road, Lintong District, Xi’an 710600, China.
VINKKI 2 – Paras vierailuaika: Lipunmyynti aukeaa aamulla klo 8:30. Välttääksesi ruuhkat, kannattaa olla paikalla heti porttien auetessa tai vaihtoehtoisesti saapua paikalle vasta hyvin myöhään iltapäivällä kun turistiryhmät lähtevät pois. Terrakotta-armeijan vierailuun kannattaa varata kolmisen tuntia aikaa. Lippujen myynti päättyy klo 17:30.
VINKKI 3 – Sisäänpääsymaksu: Terrakotta armeija sisäänpääsy maksaa 150 yuania eli 20 euroa (lokakuu 2015). Maksu kattaa vierailun kolmella arkeologisella kaivannolla, museossa ja multimediakeskuksessa. HUOM: joulukuusta helmikuuhun lippujen hinnat ovat hieman alhaisemmat (120 yuania eli 16 euroa).
VINKKI 4 – Oppaan vuokraaminen: Saapuessasi paikalle, kimppuusi hyökkää lauma oppaita.
Kohtuuhintainen opas maksaa n. 100–150 yuania eli 13–20 euroa. Lippuluukulta voi vaihtoehtoisesti vuokrata audio-oppaita 40 yuanin kappalehintaan (5,5 euroa).
VINKKI 5 – Matka lippuluukulta pääsisäänkäynnille: Lippuluukulta museoalueen pääportille päästäkseen on käveltävä runsaan kilometrin mittainen myyntikojujen reunustama väylä (10 minuutin kävelymatka).
