Iconic Pennsylvania Food! 10 MUST EAT PENNSYLVANIA FOOD

We traveled the state of Pennsylvania in search of all the Iconic Must Eat Food in Pennsylvania. Food that famously comes from PA and every Pennsylvanian should try once. Most of the food on our top 10 list of Pennsylvania food was invented in the state or is consumed mostly in the state.

10. The Just Born Company in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We are in search of the Peep. A marshmallow shaped treat found mostly at Easter time. These colorful cute chicks are Iconic to Pennsylvania.

9. Next is two all beef patties, special sauce , lettuce , cheese on a sesame seed bun. The invention of the Big Mac was made by McDonald's franchisee Jim Deligatti. In Irwin, Pennsylvania McDonald's there is a Big Mac Museum inside. The museum gives the history of the Big Mac and also has a 14 foot statue of the double burger sandwich.

8. Next we go to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to visit the spot where the banana split was invented. There is a statue of a ginormous banana split where the pharmacy that invented the sundae once stood. The original sundae was made with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry ice cream.

7. Lancaster, Pennsylvania is our next stop. this Dutch Pennsylvania food is called Shoo Fly Pie. The pie is made with thick molasses and lots of brown sugar. When the pie would sit outside to cool the sticky sweetness would bring in the flies. Thus the name Shoo Fly Pie.

6. Burnt Almond Torte at Prantel's Bakery in Pittsburgh, PA is one of the best cakes I ever ate. The owner of the bakery went to a baking competition where they were encouraged to use almonds in new and exciting ways. Needless to say, Prantel won the competition and the bakery has been making the torte the same way ever since.

5. Pretzels. Now Pennsylvania is not the inventor of the Pretzel, but they are the number one producer of Pretzels in the US. They make 80% of hard and soft pretzels. PA is also the number one consumer of the salty treat.

4. Pramanti Bros in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to have the Pramanti Bros sandwich. The sandwich was invented in the 1930's It's grilled meat and cheese, vinegar Cole slaw and a big stack of french Fries.

3. Tomato Pie. Our friends the Sorgi Stories from Philadelphia introduce this Philly classic. A bread like dough as the crust with gravy. a red sauce and just a small dusting of cheese.

2. The Sweetest Place on Earth is our next stop, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Milton Hershey built this town with his recipe for milk chocolate. Mixing milk with chocolate cut down the price of making chocolate and makes it more affordable to the masses.

Before getting to our #1 spot here are some honorable mentions of Must Eat Pennsylvania Iconic food.

Yuengling Beer. Yuengling is in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest working brewery in the US. They give tours of the brewery and the underground caves.

1. Our top spot could go to nothing else but the Philly Cheesesteak. In Philadelphia everyone has an opinion on where to get the best one in the city. But is you want the original it's Pat's King of Steaks.

Invention of the BANANA SPLIT! (Valley Dairy Original Banana Split)

We travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania where the worlds most beloved sundae the banana split was invented. In 1904 at a local pharmacy in Latrobe a young pharmacist's apprentice, David Strickler created the iconic American dessert. His invention was three scoops of ice cream vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate tucked between a banana sliced lengthwise and topped with chocolate sauce, pineapple and strawberry sauces, whipped cream, chopped nuts and maraschino cherries. The sundae sold for 10 cents.

At 805 Ligonier St in Latrobe, Pennsylvania is where Tassell Pharmacy once stood, the offical birthplace of the banana split. Now there is a humongous statue of a banana split marking the spot of the creation.

When we were done visiting the sculpture we drove to Valley Dairy Restaurant also in Latrobe, PA to treat ourselves to a banana split, made the same way the original was made back in 1904.

And stick around as we also visit a monument to Fred Rogers who was born in Latrobe, PA

10 Things To do in Baltimore, MD with the kids and occasional Ghost Hunting

✅Best-Selling travel gear
😃Booking.com Deals

The City of Baltimore is Maryland's largest county, and the largest independent city in the U.S. Baltimore has the world-renowned Inner Harbor, a destination to be seen day or night, and plenty of places to get your live entertainment loaded.

Here are 10 Things To Do in Baltimore.

#10 Meet The Animals At The National Aquarium.

The National Aquarium is home to nearly 200,000 species including amphibians, birds, reptiles and, of course, fish. You can go on an immersion tour for those who just want to see the aquarium from the other side, to see stuff from inside the tank itself. There are dolphin experiences where, in a teaching and play session, you can get up close and personal with the dolphins.

#9 Take a walk around The Historic Ships In Baltimore.

As far as military vessel collections go, this may just be the largest in the world. You have the U.S. Sloop-of-War-Constellation, the U.S. Submarine Torsk, and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Taney (Pearl Harbor's last surviving ship). Within these vessels the stories told will keep a lot of history buffs amused and many an enlightened child.

#8 See The Trains At The B&O Railroad Museum.

B&O Railroad Museum houses the most important collection of railroad objects in America. There's so much to do at the museum but the Mile One Express Train Trip is maybe the most enjoyable and interesting. You can take a twenty-minute ride at certain times along the first commercial mile of railroad ever built in America.

#7 Take a trip to America’s First Cathedral.

America's first church is formally named the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary's National Shrine of Assumption, most commonly known as the Baltimore Basilique. Benjamin Henry Latrobe who is considered the Father of American Architecture designed the cathedral. The building underwent major reconstruction, completed in 2006, costing $34 million to the Catholic Church. We highly recommend a walk to this magnificent edifice.

#6 Explore the History of Pop Culture at Geppi’s.

Geppi's Entertainment Museum is a private museum in Baltimore displaying cases of pop culture history in the U.S.A. The series starts in the 17th century and continues right up to the present day. The museum houses about 6,000 items including movie posters, newspapers, badges, toys, cereal boxes, and trade cards.

#5 Admire The Washington Monument.

Really, the Washington Monument is a spot to behold. A massive column was constructed in Washington by the same architect who designed the Washington Monument. The monument stands at a height of 178 feet and can be climbed up the 227 steps up to the roof. When upstairs you can enjoy amazing views of the city below.

#4 Meet the animals at Maryland Zoo.

The Maryland Zoo is housed within Druid Hill Park, the third oldest zoo in all of America. The zoo opened in 1876, and is now a major attraction in the area. The zoo is divided into many areas the largest of which is the African Journey. Large numbers of animals originating in Africa can be seen in this section. African Elephants, Lions, Cheetahs, African Leopards and many more

#3 Learn about Edgar Allan Poe.

Edgar Allan Poe was a 19th-century American writer and literary critic living in Baltimore. The home is fantastically restored, and tourists are welcome to come and see the house where he lived with his parents, aunt, and two cousins at certain times of the year. The house is unfurnished, but the building's core structure remains unchanged.

#2 Enjoy unique art at The Walters Art Museum.

If you like art but are not enthusiastic about a certain period of time or style of work, the Walters Art Museum will give you a great mix of objects. There are Egyptian predynastic era, Greek Sculptures, and Roman Sarcophagi. Art Nouveau Jewelry and European and American masterpieces can be found here. There are about 30,000 pieces of work on display in total, and museum access is fully free.

#1 Watch a film at the Charles Theatre.

The Charles Theatre in Baltimore's oldest theater. The theater was initially built as a streetcar barn before being moved to Charles Street where it remains now. The five-screen theater, as well as some of today's big launches, displays a wide variety of independent films. Each year the theatre holds the annual Maryland Film Festival which attracts movie lovers from across the state.
