For me, Tawi-Tawi is the hardest province to penetrate because of its geographical location. Not only that, Tawi-Tawi is always associated with war and most of the time, being judged and considered as unsafe for travelers, WHICH I DISAGREE! Bongao is the busiest municipality in Tawi-Tawi but has a lot of stunning tourist spots and destinations that are just waiting to be recognized.

HOW TO GET HERE: Bought a ticket bound for Bongao at Aleson Shipping Lines. FARE: 1,100 Pesos. ETD Zambonga City: 6:48 PM, ETA: 12:20 PM (the next day). NOTE: The port entrance is situated on the left side of BPI near Zamboanga City Hall. For Aleson schedule, please visit Aleson Shipping Lines facebook page.

Is It Safe to Travel to Tawi-Tawi? | A Beautiful Pearl in Sulu's Waterworld
Tawi Tawi, island, southwestern Sulu archipelago, Philippines, lying between the Celebes Sea (southeast) and the Sulu Sea (northwest). Tawi Tawi's westernmost tip is a scant 40 miles (64 km) east of Borneo.
The Sama are the original inhabitants of the Tawi-Tawi archipelago. The term sama is derived from the word sama-sama meaning togetherness. They are a cohesive and peace-loving people.
It is safe but like many unexplored places, it's not a travel destination where you can just take a spontaneous trip to one island. Ask help from the tourism office and follow their advice. This will make your trip in Tawi-Tawi safe and fun! Tawi-Tawi is a part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
How to go to Tawi Tawi: Fly: Take direct flights from Manila to Zamboanga by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Then from Zamboanga, take the direct flight to Tawi Tawi by Cebu Pacific. Alternatively, from Zamboanga, you can take the 18-hour ferry ride to Bongao

“If you are given a chance to travel around the Philippines, where would you go?” We choose to explore Southern Mindanao. Aside from breathtaking views at the peak of its mountains, the majestic waterfalls, the calm and relaxing beaches, what more could you ask for? It's a great opportunity to visit our islands and get to know different cultures.
Now let us share our 10 days experience in visiting Zamboanga, Basilian, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
Zamboanga City is a highly-urbanized city in southernmost part of Zamboanga peninsula. And because of its Hispanic influences in its culture, it is commonly known as the “Latin City of Asia”.
BASILAN is a piece of paradise. We felt so blessed when we went for a trip there because we met amazing people. From the tourist officer to the mayors, governors, soldiers and the different tribes. They have many beautiful white sandy beaches that is just a few hours away from the main cities.
Sulu belonged to the craziest part of our journey. Words can't imagine the craziness we had to go thru to visit the oldest Muslim Tomb to drinking Sulu Coffee to eating the best butter chicken and meeting the locals communities.
Cloaking its secrets with verdure and mist, Bud Bongao is Tawi-Tawi’s most famous mountain. It’s a revered pilgrimage site for both Christians and Muslims. Bud Bongao is an icon of terrestrial biodiversity conservation and eco-tourism in Tawi-Tawi because of the wealth of its wildlife and its unique cultural importance. All that we see and experience now, we hope to preserve for the future.

Solo Travel to Tawi-Tawi (Is it safe?) 🇵🇭
I traveled alone to Tawi-Tawi: Philippines' southernmost and remotest province. This province shares a sea border with Malaysia. Historically, it has been a point of entry to the different Sultanates in the Philippines. It was a port of entry by the Chinese and Arab traders, Islam missionaries, and sea voyagers from Borneo and other kingdoms and empires around the world.
From being a front door, it has now become a backdoor--a point of exit to Borneo and other countries in Asia, as well as a port of entry of goods and services.
It is inhabited by the peace-loving and Islam-practicing Sama Dilaya and Sama Dilaut (Badjao) tribes, as well as the Tausugs, who were originally from Sulu.
The Balobok Rock Shelter/Cave in Bongao used to be one of the hideouts and haven of Nur Misuari's MNLF (Moro National Liberation Font) during the secessionist movement against President Ferdinand Marcos and the Philippine government in the 1970's.

Panglima Sugala, officially the Municipality of Panglima Sugala, is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi, Philippines.
Every Saturday(whole day) and Friday afternoon, Batu-Batu lead the traditional barter trading of foods and fruits. trading by exchage of goods of each vendors and the customers likewise.
