Lakes Entrance Victoria Australia
Lakes Entrance is the entrance to the Gippsland Lake system in Victoria from Bass Strait. This entrance is at times very dangerous to cross, particularly in a small boat. Even in large boats the bar can be treacherous as many ships up to 73 feet long have come to grief during the last century. Since then the entrance has been improved & made safer but it can still catch veterans of the area unawares. The Entrance has continued to claim unwary or unlucky vessels, including the well-known Lakes Entrance trawler ‘Shark’ (wrecked in 1978 with the loss of three lives) and a 45-ft ketch in more recent years.
On the day of my flight with the DJI Mini 3 Pro the Entrance was particularly calm with crafts of all sizes having no problem crossing. Lakes Entrance the town is a busy sea-side town with many caravan parks & places to stay. While the primary activities would seem to be all nautical based there are many other attractions including a winery.

Lakes Entrance - Peels Lake Cruises - Discover Downunder
TV presenters Tim Smith and Brooke Hanson from Discover Downunder are visiting tourist resort and fishing port, Lakes Entrance, east of Victoria. Lakes Entrance is about a 4 hour drive from Melbourne and is the biggest water way system in the country.
There are two must things to do on the lake such as taking a walk on the popular land mark bridge and a leisurely scenic cruise. Tim has chosen Peels Lake Cruises and is about to board the biggest ship that tours the lake. The journey covers approximately 70 kms as you experience a tour of the Lakes on a luxury boat.
Tim talks to fourth generation family owner and operator James Peel about the history of Peels Lake Cruises which started back in 1920. With over 90 places for accommodation there have been many holiday makers using Peels as an exciting local attraction within Lakes Entrance.

Lakes Entrance is a very popular all year round holiday destination, including during winter months when the climate is often a few degrees warmer than Melbourne.
The main street has a good selection of shops, and restaurants - the accommodation options are mostly on the other side. On your walk, you will notice a number of wooden sculptures, which have been carved out of old tree trunks, they represent images of Australia at war.
On the right hand alongside the water, we came across a popular landmark footbridge. It links the town centre with the sand dunes which are a part of the 90 mile beach.
There are a number of lookouts providing panoramic views over Lakes Entrance and the surrounding waterways.
As a popular holiday town it is busy during the holiday seasons and a place where families make many memories.
