Kutno to miasto powiatowe w środkowej Polsce, w województwie łódzkim nad rzeką Ochnią dopływem Bzury.
Leży zaledwie o 20 km na północny zachód od geometrycznego środka Polski.
Początek miejskiego charakteru Kutna wyznacza przywilej targowy księcia płockiego Siemowita IV z 1386 r., nadany Andrzejowi z Radzikowa za wierną służbę u boku księcia w okresie jego zabiegów o koronę polską.
Przywilej ten zwalniał mieszkańców Kutna od wszelkich opłat, posług i ciężarów z wyjątkiem dwóch groszy z łanu.
Mieszkańcy zostali uwolnieni od sądów ziemskich, odpowiadali jedynie przed księciem i właścicielem.
Książę pozwolił odbywać targi w poniedziałki, a jarmarki na dzień św. Wawrzyńca.
Nadanie przywileju targowego miało zasadnicze znaczenie dla dalszego rozwoju Kutna.
Z 1444 pochodzi pierwszy zapis określający Kutno jako miasto.
Z tego najwcześniejszego okresu pochodzi najstarsza pieczęć miejska Kutna. Zawiera ona w polu pieczęci dwa dziki wspięte w układzie antytetycznym, pomiędzy którymi umieszczono ostrzew.
W otoku biegnie napis teksturą gotycką: Sigillum Civitatis Kuthnensis.
Kutno położone było najpierw na pograniczu dwóch dzielnic, a następnie województw. Podatek od rzemiosła w 1579 r. wynosił 28zł i 15 groszy, co stawiało Kutno na siódmym miejscu spośród 15 miast woj. rawskiego.
Po rozkwicie Kutna w XVI wieku następne stulecie przyniosło upadek gospodarczy, którego przyczyną był rozwój gospodarki folwarczno - pańszczyźnianej.
Rozwojowi gospodarczemu Kutna nie sprzyjało duże zagęszczenie ośrodków miejskich pogranicza województw rawskiego (w którym Kutno leżało) i łęczyckiego.
W czasie potopu okolice Kutna przeżyły okres poważnych zniszczeń wojennych.
Całokształt życia społeczno - gospodarczego w Kutnie regulowała wydana w 1767r. ordynacja dla miasta likwidująca powinności pańszczyźniane mieszkańców, którzy teraz płacić mieli tylko czynsz.
Całokształt reformatorskiej działalności podniósł Kutno do rangi miast średnich XVIII w. Polski. Zmiany przyczyniły się do stałego już rozwoju miasta gdzie rosła liczba rzemieślników i kupców, a uprawą ziemi zajmował się niewielki odsetek ludności.

Filmed February 2021 | Take off with Tara Szczepanski to discover Łęczyca, one of the oldest Polish cities! It was the place of the first recorded meeting of Sejm, the Polish parliament, in 1182. In 1229, during the period of fragmentation of Poland, it became the capital of the Duchy of Łęczyca, which in 1263 was split into two parts - the Duchy of Łęczyca and the Duchy of Sieradz. In the early 14th century, the Łęczyca Voivodeship was created with Łęczyca serving as its capital. This administrative unit of the Kingdom of Poland was part of the larger Greater Poland Province of the Polish Crown and existed until the Partitions of Poland in the late 18th century. It was a royal city of the Polish Crown.

Kutno - a city in central Poland, in the Łódź Voivodeship, the seat of the Kutno poviat and the rural commune of Kutno, on the Ochnia River (tributary of the Bzura).
The establishment of the town could have taken place as early as the mid-12th century. A private noble town founded in 1386. In the 12th–13th centuries it was located in the castellany of Łęczyca in the province of Łęczyca and in the castellany of Łęczyca in the duchy of Łęczyca[3][4]. In the 16th century, it was located in the Gostynin district of the Rawa Province[5]. Degraded before 1500, re-located in 1504, degraded before 1700, granted town rights in 1766[6]. In the years 1975-1998 Kutno administratively belonged to the Płock Voivodeship.
According to Central Statistical Office data from December 31, 2019, the city had 43,911 inhabitants.
Communication hub, until the political transformation, the center of the electronics industry (Unitra Miflex plant), machine industry (Kraj Machine Plant). Currently, the seat of the subzone of the Łódź Special Economic Zone.

Kutno lies on the old road between Warsaw and Poznan. It is one of the few stops on the intercity train network between Berlin and Warsaw.
It has always been a stopping place for travelers between Germany and Warsaw. The Saski Palace, or remains of it, in the Kunto center is the last surviving such palace.
It used to take 16 days for kings to go between Dresden and Warsaw. The palace at Kutno is one of the places the kings stayed over at.
