S1 – Ep 479 – Koppies, Free State!
On our final evening away from home during this trip, we eagerly anticipated our visit to Koppies. This Free State town is nestled beside the picturesque Koppies Dam, though regrettably, entry eluded us. Undeterred, we embraced the opportunity to explore the town itself, stumbling upon intriguing sights. of which the highlight was the operational station. Later, we retreated to Paradys Game Lodge, a charming retreat located approximately five kilometers from the N1. Our experience in this quaint town was truly delightful. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #koppies #freestate

Melville Johannesburg, South Africa Urban Rural Scenic Travel
Urban Rural Travel Adventures scenic drives the Melville area, along with Parkhurst, Greenside, Parkview, Norwood and Emmarentia, is one of the many areas of the Northern Suburbs still to have high streets with cafes, restaurants and shops lining the streets rather than in enclosed shopping centres.
In Melville, the majority of these are located along 7th Street, although there are also several on other streets, such as 4th Avenue and Main Street (where there is also a supermarket). There are over 30 guest houses in the vicinity, and Melville is a popular stopover in Johannesburg for tourists. On 7th Street, in addition to restaurants, there are several bars and a tattoo studio; the street is a popular hang-out for the cosmopolitan crowd.
The popular soap opera, 7de Laan, used views of 7th Street, Melville in its opening visuals.
Prior to the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand in 1886, the suburb lay on land of one of the original farms that make up Johannesburg, called Braamfontein. The suburb was proclaimed on 5 October 1896, and is named after the land surveyor, Edward Harker Vincent Melvill. In the public sale notice, the suburb was described as a picturesque and healthy spot in the vicinity of Johannesburg with a magnificent view of the wooded country to the north with the blue Pretoria ranges stretching like lines of steel against the horizon.

S1 – Ep 459 – Tweespruit, Free State!
We were thrilled to visit Tweespruit after a long absence from small towns. En route, the sight of two old steel bridges delighted us, nostalgically taking us back to days gone by. Upon arrival, the prominence of the farming community became evident with the towering grain silos catching our eye first. The charm of the sandstone train station buildings captivated us instantly. Despite the station being non-operational, it was encouraging to witness local businesses utilising the structures. Tweespruit, like many small towns in the Free State, are trying to keep head above water to thrive amidst challenges. Their many friendly residents will go a long way towards achieving this goal. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #tweespruit #freestate

30 Things to do in Cape Town, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Today we’re taking you around one of our favourite cities: Cape Town, South Africa.
We first visited Cape Town in 2015 as the final stop on a monthlong trip across South Africa. However, by the time we arrived, we only had a couple of days to spare and the weather was less than ideal, so we didn’t get to see very much.
We knew we had to return to do the city justice and also film a proper Cape Town travel guide for you guys. This time around, we gave ourselves a full week to spare.
Our days were packed with sightseeing, and with visits to restaurants, chocolate shops, wineries and gin distilleries, so without further delay, let us show you 30 things do in Cape Town, South Africa.
And that’s a wrap for our week in Cape Town, South Africa. We hope you enjoyed following along and that this guide gave you a few ideas of things to see, do and eat in Cape Town. As always, if you have any other suggestions for fellow travellers, feel free to share those in the comments below. In the meantime, wishing you happy travels and see you next time!
This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture and South African cuisine.

Emmarentia Johannesburg, South Africa Urban Rural Scenic Travel
Urban Rural Travel Adventures goes to Emmarentia, which lies on land that once made up the Braamfontein Farm, one of many large farms that make what is Johannesburg and its suburbs. The land was bought in 1886 by Lourens Geldenhuys for its mining rights as it was hoped that the Confidence Reef would extend into his farm but it did not.
Land remained as a farm and by 1891 it was divided, along what is now Orange Road, between his son's Frans and Louw where the brothers had already built two farm houses. Frans' farmhouse still exists as the clubhouse at the Marks Park Sports Club and Louw's which exists close by at 14 Greenhill Road.
After the Second Boer War, in which Louw Geldenhuys and his brother had taken part of as members of the Krugersdorp Commando, he decided to help some landless and unemployed Boers war veterans. He used them to construct a stone and earth dam from blocks of stone from the Melville Koppies behind the farm and cost £12,000. The dam was built over the Westdene spruit which is a tributary of the larger Braamfontein Spruit. The dam was then named after his wife Emmarentia Margaretha Botha. A hundred of these workers were then settled in 14 irrigated smallholdings on 145 morgens of the farm in what are now the suburbs of Emmarentia, Linden and Greenside where they grew fruits and vegetables with rent based on a third of the profits of the sale of the produce.
Louw died in 1929 and his wife Emmarentia would begin to sell parts of the farm that became the suburbs Greenside in 1931, and Emmarentia on 28 April 1937, named after her and in 1941, Emmarentia Extension. In 1933, 13 hectares of the farm were donated to the City of Johannesburg for parks and recreation, and after further pieces of land were acquired, became the Jan van Riebeeck Park (1952) and the Johannesburg Botanical Garden (1964), Emmarentia Dam (1939), the Marks Park Sports Club (1951) and West Park Cemetery (1942).
In 1938, Emmarentia Geldenhuys died and was buried at the family cemetery in Hill Road. The small cemetery still exists with 77 graves in the small cemetery with other names such as Swanepoel, Steyn, Ayres, Hopley and McGrath possibly the smallholding farmers Louw Geldenhuys had helped out. The suburbs captures the names of the original owners of the farm as street names, Judith Road is named after Frans Geldenhuys' wife, Judith Grobbelaar. While Louw Geldenhuys Road runs past the dam he built.

The Karoo of South Africa
This video is about the Karoo of South Africa. The Karoo is a vast semi-arid region of central and southern South Africa, roughly twice the size of France. It covers 45% of South Africa itself and was traditionally exploited by low-intensity sheep farming. Today, expansive game reserves are returning some of the land to its pre-European condition and stocking it with indigenous wildlife. The Karoo is a tough landscape with hardy rural communities pitted against the harsh conditions of the near-desert environment. The geology of the Karoo is famous for its expansive, flat-lying outcrops of Permian and Early Triassic sediments. These rocks are host to some of the world's best fossil reptiles representing the early evolution of land animals.

Kruger Short trip in the North with amazing Wildlife sightings
Please leave a comment if we misidentified any animals in this video.
We once again left Olifants rest camp as early as possible in search of the lions that we heard throughout the night. We were greeted by an absolutely stunning sunrise just outside the camp and had our morning coffee at the N'wamanzi lookout point.
We took the S39 towards the Timbavati picnic site, and this road proved to be booming with birds. We took it very slowly and were pleasantly surprised around every corner. We wanted to make a nice breakfast at the Timbavati Picnic site, but it was extremely busy with no open tables, so we had yogurt and fruit to go. At least we could make a nice lunch at the Tshokwane Picnic site.
From Lower Sabie, we had two leopard sightings. The first sighting was in the perfect afternoon light, so we calculated the time we could spend there based on the distance to the gate, as we wanted to spend all the time we could at this sighting. We did not take into consideration that we would have another leopard sighting just before the gate. So we could not spend a lot of time at the second sighting.
We were almost late to leave the gate.
