Papua New Guinea has just taken first place for my top destination to see wild dolphins!
This entire day was surreal and completely magical! I was booked on a regular tour of the Duke of York Islands (as opposed to the specific dolphin trip at 6am), and the day started out strong when I looked down and saw dozens of giant starfish on the ocean floor!
Then, we set off for the small islands, and I wasn’t expecting it at all when our guides yelled “Dolphins”!!!
Up ahead were what seemed like over a hundred dolphins jumping and flipping in the air! Naturally, I immediately wanted to put on a mask and fins and dive in, but they told me to wait and watch how they “surf” at the front of the boat, so I sat at the bow instead.
What happened next are moments I will never ever forget! There were dolphins racing right under my feet, and occasionally would jump up into the air making me turn and gasp “Did you see that?!” every five seconds!
I could have sat there for hours watching them as we drove in circles amusing both the dolphins and myself. And that was only the beginning of this perfect day! ….to be continued!
But also — they have this cool contraption where you can basically lay on a rope ladder in the water at the front of the boat with your mask and snorkel on, and “swim” with the dolphins as they surf the front of the boat! I’ve always tried free diving to keep up with them but HAHA yeah right, and this is was way more efficient 😂 Footage of it on my Stories!
More info about how to do this trip with @pngtribalfoundation coming soon, and our potential group trip to Papua New Guinea in 2024!

When my trip to Papua New Guinea was approved to happen, I honestly had no idea what to expect.
The first things that came to mind were tribes painted and dressed in traditional wear, and climbing through thick jungles. Since I was there as an ambassador to an NGO, I also expected to be mostly in meetings. I subconsciously hoped there would be some nice beaches, but since I hadn’t seen much posted about that, I didn’t think much about it.
Then, after meeting with the team members at @pngtribalfoundation, and hearing how they’re helping others, and what kind of help I could do as an influencer, I was taken to Duke of York Islands, where my mind was absolutely blown, and my mission became clear!
Imagine me not knowing an island-hopping tour was planned, complete with an unexpected visit from a hundred dolphins!!
I remember thinking “THIS is what people need to see and think of when they hear ‘Papua New Guinea’, not ‘It’s Dangerous’”. And so here we are 🙂
Every country has danger and safety issues. You all probably know this already, but I’m more scared to be in USA than the majority of countries I go to, including PNG. So let’s stop associating Papua New Guinea with danger, and start to highlight its incredible beauty as well, shall we?
What countries have you visited that everyone said was dangerous and turned out to be incredible?
Also, fun fact! If you look closely, the kids where I was cliff jumping have mostly blond hair, and that is a common gene in this area of PNG! They also looked very concerned after I jumped since there was only a small clearing amongst the coral (prob the most “danger” I had the whole trip 🙈😂)
For difficult logistical purposes, I still only recommend going to PNG with an established company like PNG Tribal Foundation. More info on my blog!
