Bikepacking Czech Republic - DAY 14 - Otrokovice to Ostrava
On our 14th and final day of Bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Otrokovice and ride to Zlín to visit the famous Bat'a Company Head Quarters and an interesting office inside an elevator. Then we grab a transfer to visit try on hats in Nový Jičín and eat ears in Štramberk, before arriving in Příbor to ride to our endpoint of Ostrava.

Czech Republic Prague in 4K walk: new Karlín, Rohanské embankment, Amazon Court 🇨🇿 HDR ASMR
In our new Czech Republic Prague 4K walk, I will continue to introduce you to the Karlín district of Prague, just now with its new part at Rohanské embankment, with new office buildings and residential buildings.
Karlín is a cadastral area of Prague, part of the Prague-8 municipal district, formerly an independent town (which became part of Prague in 1922). It is bordered by the river Vltava and Holešovice to the north, Vítkov hill and Žižkov to the south, New Town to the west, and Libeň to the east. The building of the Karlín district began in 1817, surrounding the Rosarium of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The new settlement was named after the fourth wife of Emperor Francis I of Austria, Caroline Augusta of Bavaria.
After the demolition of the city walls, the properties in Karlín were counted among the cheapest properties in Prague. For that reason, the number of industrial enterprises and dwellings proliferated in the area of Rohan Island (Rohanský Ostrov). On January 1, 1922, Karlín was incorporated into Prague. At this time, the electrical engineering pioneer and industrialist František Křižík had significant influence in the area. He established a streetcar line, which he then sold to the city.
In the 1970s, traffic was rerouted onto the Rohanské nábřeží, and the main arterial road was relieved. Since 1990 Karlín has been connected to the Prague Metro, and a pedestrian zone has been established. In 2002 Karlín was severely affected by the 100-year flood. It has since recovered and is becoming a new destination for businesses and residences.

Manneken Pis wears Czech costume
Manneken Pis, the symbol of Brussels, wore on the 21st of October for the first time a costume donated by the Czech Republic. The costume has a contemporary cut but the fabric is a traditional indigo print that has been inscribed on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List in 2018 – and thus is a tribute to both traditional craft and fashion design.
The ceremony of handing over of the costume will took place at the City Hall of Brussels on the 21st of October, 11 am, as a commemoration of the Czech national holiday (celebrated annually on 28 October). The Czech Republic did thus follow up on centuries-old tradition of handing over of costumes for Manneken Pis to the City of Brussles that was probably started by Louis XIV.
