Kintampo is a town and tourist destination in the Bono East Region of Ghana. It became the capital of Kintampo North Municipal in 2004. Kintampo has a population of 49,046. It also served as the capital of the former Kintampo District. Kintampo also has a Senior High School which is located at Kyeremankoma. There is a college of health called Kintampo College of Health and Well-being (CoHK) in the town. Most of the population in Kintampo are farmers, with production focused on yams, maize, legumes, tubers and other vegetables. The Deg[disambiguation needed] or Mo tribe are indigenous to the region. Kintampo is a cosmopolitan town, apart from the indigenous tribe, other tribes like the Wangaras, the Bonos, Gonjas , Konkombas and others are also inhabitants of the town. The annual Benkadi Kurubi festival of the Wangara community in Ghana always takes place at Kintampo.

The waterfalls, one of the main natural attractions in the area, is formed by three (3) main drops where the longest drop measures 25 meters (82 ft) in height and after a number of steps, and cascades, the river falls about 70 meters (230 ft). It takes its source at a village called Pumpumatifi, which is about 10 kilometers away from the waterfalls.
Kintampo waterfalls is a beautiful cascading waterfalls in Ghana. Also known as Sanders Falls during the colonial days, it is located on the Pumpum river, a tributary of the Black Volta, about 4 kilometres north of Kintampo municipality, on the Kumasi–Tamale road.
This seasonal fall is from the Pumpu River which falls some 70 meters down beautiful rocky steps. The Kintampo Waterfalls has a more festive environment with lots of locals on picnics and shade where visiting individuals and groups can sit and have fun There are lots of trees, mostly dominated by Mahogany, some of which grow beyond 40 meters.

The Kintampo Waterfalls in the Bono East Region of Ghana has been in existence since antiquity. Dating as far back as the 18th century during it's discovery by the colonial masters and named as the Sanders waterfalls, the waterfall was born under a new name as the Kintampo Waterfalls in 1992 when it was ushered into a tourist attraction site.
The waterfall is a remarkable feature which flows on an impervious rock boarded by greenish vegetation of predominantly Mahogany tree plant. The serenity of the environment, together with the breeze from the vegetation provides tourists an opportunity for relaxation.

During my time of visit, it had no canopy walk as it does now (2020)and it was in the dry season known as Harmattan season.
