Travel To Kherson Ukraine - 6 Awesome Things To Do In Kherson

The first episode of the Jet Set Together travel show is all about Kherson, Ukraine. This region in the south of the country borders Crimea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov.

In this episode I go all over this amazing region, from simple kayaking in the wetlands, to overnight camping on an uninhabited island. Some excursions are a look into public transportation in Ukraine, and some are with a wonderful tour company in the region.

If you want to travel to Kherson, Ukraine or are just an avid traveler like me, head to my travel blog for plenty of detailed guides for places all over the world.

For specific segments the in depth guides are:

00:00 - Intro And Kherson Info
01:25 - Prince Trubetskoy Winery
05:44 - Dzharylhach Island:
10:05 - Kayaking
11:35 - Kherson Cliffs (Ukraine Grand Canyon)
13:18 - Safari in Askania-Nova:
17:25 - The Pink Lake on Arabatskaya Strelka:

I understand that Kherson isn't at the top of everyone's favorite places in Ukraine, but if you can see, there are quite a lot of awesome things to do in this Ukraine city on the Black Sea. The history of the city is interesting, and even though the city is filled with commie-blocks, venture to the nature outside the city and you'll be impressed with how much there is to see.

In fact, Kherson is a great city to visit in Ukraine if you want to travel around the country on a budget as it's far less expensive than Kyiv, Odesa, or my favorite city, Lviv. Traveling around Ukraine on public transportation, while taking some getting used to, is a great way to see some less touristy parts of this beautiful Eastern European country.

Kherson Region, Ukraine | Day 1

🌅 Welcome to the Kherson region!

This is a real pearl of the steppe area of Ukraine. Nature has generously endowed the region with priceless abundance of unique protected lands.👀 There are more than 5,000 historical and cultural heritage sites here. It isn’t possible to visit all in one trip.

Kherson region attracts tourists not only with its nature, sea, festivals and typical tourist activities and services, but also with a slightly unusual type of holiday - the so called “wild” recreation 🧐

It’s the kind of holiday when tourists reject comfortable living conditions and instead choose to live in tents, connecting with nature and themselves, meet sunrises on the seaside in the morning, and sit by the fire in the evening.⛺️

Inquisitive Rob and Heather also tried the “wild” tourist route. Let's see how they liked it and whether it was worth it in this episode.🤝

Come and check it out yourself.🤓

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME VISIT UKRAINE

Check events

Best Time to Visit Ukraine.

Blessed with exceptionally fortunate geographical location, access to two seas and a part of the mountain chain, Ukraine is a place where any type of vacation can happen. Unlike the countries where you can’t notice a big difference between summer and spring or winter and fall, climate in Ukraine shows very distinct four seasons. As a Ukrainian who tries to get the most out of every season here in Ukraine, I will try to show you the best way and time to experience the wonders of my country. Enjoy!

Spring
Weather. March is rather cold: 5 - 10 °C. April and May: 15 - 24 °C.
Why spring: Second half of the spring is the most popular season for tours to main sightseeing attractions. The temperature is perfect for long walks and recreational activities. The spring season in Ukraine is the time for various cultural and music festivals, grand concerts and sport events. It is a great season for hiking and camping.
Where to go: Uzhgorod, Uman, Lviv, Chernihiv, Kyiv.
What to see: I would recommend visiting one of the numerous spring festivals in Ukraine, like Sakura Festival in Uzhgorod City or Retro Lviv Festival. Moreover, many Ukrainian cities celebrate their birthdays in spring, e.g. Kyiv and Lviv. Such celebrations are always fun to take part in. If you are not a big fan of crowded events, consider avoiding long holidays in the beginning of May.
What to be aware of: The weather in the first half of the spring does not scream “let’s go for a walk!”. But it can be a great opportunity for ski lovers to go on a late vacation to one of the ski resorts in Carpathians.

Summer
Weather. 25 - 36 °C
Why summer: Summer is a perfect sea vacation time. Luckily, Ukraine has access to not one but two seas: the Black Sea and the Azov Sea. Dozens of seaside resorts offer their services for any taste and budget. If you prefer quality leisure time in the woods and mountains rather than on the beach, Ukraine has beautiful resorts in Carpathian Mountains. They offer recreational activities for outgoing people like horse riding, hiking, rock climbing, SPA etc.
Where to go: Odessa, Kherson, Truskavets, Bukovel.
What to see: Big cities like Odessa can offer almost any kind of fun or relaxing pastime. Nightclubs, restaurants and parks in the city and quite resorts outside the city limits. By the way, Odessa region has a historical Bilhorod-Dnister Fortress which becomes a scene for an annual Medieval Festival. If your goal is to improve your health condition or get a first-class SPA treatments, I would recommend one of SPA resorts in Western regions of Ukraine.
What to be aware of: It can get pretty hot in summer which is great for the beach vacation but can be a drawback for a sightseeing tour.

Fall
Weather. September is commonly warm: 20 - 15 °C. October/November: 10 - 5 °C.
Why fall: First half of the fall is warm and full of sunny days. It becomes a bit to cold for a beach, but just right for hiking, sightseeing tours and outside activities. Fall is the time for Cheese and Wine Festivals in many Ukrainian cities which can be a long-awaited opportunity to go for a gourmet trip.
Where to go: Ternopil, Lviv, Bila Tserkva, Chernivtsi, Carpathian mountains.
What to see: October is a great time to visit amazing park zones like Arboretum Sofiyivka in Uman or the Oleksandriya Park near the Bila Tserkva City. They look especially amazing with colorful trees: the walk can take all day. If you are a fan of extreme sports, I would recommend rafting tours in September (Pivdennyi Buh River). A castle-seaking tour around Ternopil or Lviv can be a lifetime experience. The best way is to rent a car or get a guided tour.
What to be aware of: Starting from October, the weather can change quickly and bring heavy rains. A sturdy umbrella and a rain boots can deal with the problem easily.

Winter
Weather: 0 - -15 °C.
Why winter: Of course, winter is the best time for winter sports and vacations that include skiing, sleigh riding and cozy relaxing in warm cabins. Ukrainian winter is commonly snowy and on the verge of being soft. Sometimes it can get really chilly here, and I’m talking about -24 °C, but most of the time it is comfy -10 °C with crispy snow ready to be played with.
Where to go: Carpathians, Dykanka, Kam'yanets'-Podil's'kyi
What to see: If your goal is to have a great vacation with skis, sleighs and snowboard - check out one of the Ukrainian Skis resorts: Bukovel, Yaremche or Slavs'ke. As for the winter festive experience, I would recommend visiting Ukraine around Christmas time. Catholic Christmas is widely and beautifully celebrated in Western regions while Eastern and Central Ukraine hold amazing celebrations for the orthodox Christmas.

Kyiv Ukraine Is A Great Place To Visit

My time in Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine, is ending soon, so I want to show all of you my favorite areas in this city.

As many of you may know, Ukraine is not considered one of the popular tourist destinations, and some people might even assume it's a dangerous country. This is not entirely true. Ukraine has safe, gorgeous cities filled with history and loads of excitement! Kyiv is the city I'm currently living in (for one more week). At its heart lies a juxtaposition of architecture and languages fueled by thousand-year-old pagan traditions. This place is nothing like what the media has told you...

I want to show you guys my Kyiv, Ukraine experience, and hopefully, I can convince you to see this wonderful city!

I hope you enjoy the video I've made of my Slavic journey, and I want to say thank you to all the Ukrainians I've met along the way!

Dniester Canyon | Unexplored Ukraine

The mighty and rapid Dniester carves its way through the Dniester Canyon National Park along the length of 250 kilometres.
Steep slopes overhang the river instead of medieval architecture. The canyon is a wonderful and unique natural region.

🇺🇦 A European Desert? OLESHKY Sands, Europe's Largest Sand Dunes (Russia in Kherson) Kherson UKRAINE

(Update October 19, 2022: Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the evacuation of citizens from the nearby occupied city of Kherson, Ukraine.)

(Since February 2022, the city of Kherson, near the Oleshkivski Sands, has been a battleground between the defensive Ukranian troops and the attacking Russian armed forces.)

In an unlikely country, Ukraine lays claim to the largest sand dunes in Europe.

The Oleshky Sands (a.k.a Oleshkivski) is an arid, windswept area in south Ukraine. An actual semi-desert area of 160 sq. km., the Sands was fertile land until a century ago. That was until sheep grazed the pastures bone dry.

Now a National Park, the Oleshky Sands has a short walking trail through the dunes that is entertaining for the whole family. Matt certainly had a blast during a sunrise stroll, after camping at the desert's edge.
