Khairpur Date Farms - Khairpur District
Pakistan is the 5th largest date producer in the world. Most of the country’s produce comes from Sindh, where date farming is spread over 75,000 acres.
More than 200 varieties of the fruit are grown in the province. Nearly 70 per cent of the province’s cultivation (700,000 tonnes p.a.) is done in Khairpur district, around 450 kilometres from Karachi, due to suitable climate.
The tremendous growth in date farming took place just after the Sukkur barrage was completed in the mid-1930s as the irrigated soil became more conducive for date palm.
Agriculture is central to Khairpur’s economy and date farming is the main source of livelihood for the residents. Despite producing 700,000 tons/year, Khairpur’s date industry remains outdated.
Growers plant an average of 60 trees per acre, with each tree bearing 100 kilograms of dates. A large portion of the produce, around 450,000 tonnes, is transported to the markets of Khairpur and Sukkur.
The plantation is made by keeping a required distance between each palm so that it should enjoy good environment and space to flourish for bearing quality fruit.
Nearly 80-90pc of these dates are dried (called chhuhara) and then put in gunny bags and taken to the market. However, a large quantity of dried dates is exported to our neighbouring countries.
The remaining soft dates are in demand in both local as well as international markets. Soft dates are processed in local factories. There are 20 such factories, of which 10 are regularly involved in the export business.
Dry dates are the main produce in terms of volume and value. They are handled at the date markets of Khairpur and Sukkur by more than 200 traders, nearly two dozen active exporters and around 5,000 workers.
The growers have adopted the traditional methods in cultivating the plant and nursing it for at least two to three years. The export market of dates requires compliance of global food standards, hence it has different dynamics.

Kot Diji Fort - Khairpur District - Sindh - Pakistan
Kot Digi Fort
The Kot Diji Fort (Fort of the Daughter), formally known as Fort Ahmadabad, is a 19th century Talpur-era fort located in the town of Kot Diji in Khairpur District, Pakistan about 25 miles east of the Indus River at the edge of the Thar Desert.
The fort sits above a pre-Harappan Civilization archaeological site dating to 2500 to 2800 B.C.E.
The Kot Diji Fort was built by Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur, between 1785 and 1795.
The site sits on a hill at the southern end of the Rohri Hills, and sits above a prehistoric mound of the same name, where remains of a pre-Harappan civilization have been found.
The fort sits atop a 110 foot tall high hill that rises above the city of Kot Diji.
The fort's 30 foot tall walls encircle the uppermost portion of the fort, resulting a narrow-width fortress with perimeter of 1.8 kilometres.
The fort contains three strategically placed towers that are each 50 feet tall.
The fort contains several sites for cannon placement, and contains numerous inner passages for protection.
The fort also contains a water reservoir, munitions storage, prison, courtroom, numerous cells for security personnel, and a small regal residence.
Government of Pakistan has declared it a protected heritage site in Pakistan, though it has been noted that portions of the fort are under control of powerful local families.

Faiz Mahal: The Majestic Relic of the Talpur Dynasty | Khairpur, Sindh [4K] Ultra HD
Faiz Mahal, Khairpur
Built in 1798 by Mir Sohrab Khan, this majestic palace complex was supposed to serve as the primary court of the Talpurs. The Talpur Dynasty is truly one of the most popular and recognized royal lineages in Pakistan, that came to power after defeating the Kalhora Dynasty and ruled over Khairpur for three centuries (1783 to 1955). However, after abolition of all princely states in 1955, the Talpur state of Khairpur, became a part of Sindh province of Pakistan.
On entering inside the palace one can see the portraits of Maharajas and Princes in the centre of the Mahal giving the impression of sheer royalty in addition to the usual comfort and luxury of palaces. The majestic palace is popularly known as ‘Lakhi Bangla’ as it cost the owners Rs.100,000 (one lakh) at that time.
The grand architectural masterpiece now serves as the home of the last, “symbolic” Talpur rulers.

About Faiz Mahal: Source= Google/Wikipedia (
The Faiz Mahal (Urdu: فَیض محل) is a palace in Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan.
It was built by Mir Sohrab Khan in 1798 as the principal building serving as the sovereign's court for the royal palace complex of Talpur monarchs of the Khairpur dynasty. Originally it included the ruler's chambers along with 16 waiting rooms for courtiers and guest rooms for royal guests alongside the durbar and dining halls. Additionally there was the Hathi Khana for the royal elephant and the horses stables where today there is a mango orchard.
At present, Faiz Mahal serves as the home of the last Talpur monarch, H. H. Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur II (born 1933), and his sons Prince Abbas Raza Talpur and Prince Mehdi Raza Talpur. After the original Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was abolished by the Chaudhry Ghulam Muhammad / General Iskander Mirza dictatorships, Khairpur state was merged with Pakistani state in 1955 using threat of military invasion in violation of the agreement Mir Ali Murad had with the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Today the former sovereign is an environmentalist and has to his credit an extraordinary flora and fauna safe haven called the Mehrano reserve, famous for its black buck, and hog deer, which are now rare in Sindh. ~Wikipedia(
