Kathmandu to Dharan to Khandbari
Khandbari, Nepal: The Fastest Growing City In The Hilly Region
Khandbari is the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha District in Koshi Province of north-eastern Nepal. It is fastest growing city and most developed among Hilly Region. It has established itself as a trading center for people of sankhuwasabha and some parts of Bhojpur district. It is the main departure point for trekking to Mount Makalu, 5th highest peak in the world and Makalu Barun National Park. Arun valley which is the deepest valley in the world is also located here with an elevation of 1,427 ft from sea level. It is also famous among tourists because it is home to more than 800 different species of butterflies and over 650 species of birds. Among them one can also see spiny Babbler which is a species of bird only found in middle hills of Nepal. About 3 km north from Khandbari lies another small bazaar known as Manebhanjyang which is an emerging business center peak in the world. Around 3 km north of Manebhanjyang lies a small park named as Fekmalung. This park is situated in a single rock and one can see a statue of Fekma. In lohorung language rock is called lung. According to lohorung myths, this rock is named Fekmalung because it is the same rock that Fekma climbed.

Khandbari Municipality
Khandbari is the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha District in Province No. 1 of north-eastern Nepal.
A road connects Khandbari directly south to Biratnagar and the Terai. Khandbari will be soon connected with Kimmathanka and Tibet. Khandbari is fastest growing city and most developed among Hilly Region. It has established itself as a trading center for people of sankhuwasabha and some parts of Bhojpur districts.
Khandbari's reputed schools include Himalayan Higher secondary school ,Barun Secondary English School, Surya Higher Secondary Boarding School, Bagishwari Secondary School, Makalu English Boarding School and Sunshine English Secondary Boarding School.
Arun III Hydropower project is located nearby. Arun III Hydropower project is one of the major subjects that really matters to the residents.[citation needed]
About 3 km north from Khandbari lies another small bazaar known as Manebhanjyang which is an emerging business centre peak in the world.
A road has already been constructed that connects Khandbari directly to Biratnagar. Its border districts are Bhojpur, Solukhumbu, Taplejung, Terhathum and Dhankuta. The change in the political situation in the country has given much hope for the residents of the district for its rapid development.
The hospital in Khandbari is described as comparatively well-equipped, and has received patients from surrounding areas arriving on foot or road and by chartered helicopters.
Khandbari is the main departure point for trekking to Mount Makalu (8463 meters), 5th highest peak in the world[citation needed] and Makalu Barun National Park.Arun valley which is the deepest valley in the world is located here with an elevation of 435 meters from sea level.It is also famous among tourists because it is home to more than 800 different species of butterflies and over 650 species of birds. Among them one can also see spiny Babbler which is a species of bird only found in middle hills of Nepal.
People can reach Khandbari by road and air transport.There are number of public Buses connecting khandbari with Dharan which is around 6 hours drive and also there are direct buses from Kathmandu to khandbari. Air transport is provided through Tumlingtar Airport which lies on the bank of Arun river. Everyday, there are flights from Kathmandu and Biratnagar.The main town of khandbari is 13 km. far from the Airport and can be reached by jeep, Auto and van in around 20 minutes.
Sankhuwasabha District सङ्खुवासभा जिल्ला is one of 14 districts of Province No. 1 of eastern Nepal. The district's area is 3,480 km2 with a population of 159,203 in 2001 and 158,742 in 2011. The administrative center is Khandbari.
Bordering districts are Bhojpur, Terhathum and Dhankuta in Koshi Zone; Solukhumbu in Sagarmatha Zone; and Taplejung in Province No. 1. Tingri County of Shigatse Prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China borders to the north.

1. Kathmandu - Khandbari (by bus)
2. Khandbari to Num (39km/3hrs by jeep/Rs550), then Num to Seduwa trek
3. Seduwa - Tashi Gaon (with lunch at Danda Kharka)
4. Danda Kharka - Khongma Danda (with lunch) - Dobato (also known as Shipton's Pass)
5. Dobate - Pemathang (with lunch) - Yangle Kharka
6. Visit Shiva Dhara and return to Yangle Kharka
7. Yangle Kharka - Langmale Kharka (with lunch) - Makalu Base Camp (16km / 8 hrs trek)
8. Rest day at base camp, visit high camp
9. Makalu Base Camp - Yangle Kharka (with lunch) - Dobate
10. Dobate - Khongma Danda (with lunch) - Tashi Gaon
11. Khongma Danda - Seduwa (with lunch) - Num, and by jeep to Tumlingtar
12. Tumlingtar to Kathmandu by airplane (Note: Our flight was canceled due to inclement weather, and we traveled to Kathmandu by bus via Itahari.)
