Melksham is a town on the River Avon in Wiltshire, England, about 4 ¹⁄₂ miles northeast of Trowbridge and 6 mi south of Chippenham. Melksham developed at a ford across the River Avon and the name is presumed to derive from meolc, the Old English for milk, and ham, a village. On John Speed's map of Wiltshire (1611), the name is spelt both Melkesam (for the hundred) and Milsham (for the town itself). Melksham was a royal estate at the time of the Norman Conquest.
Melksham is also the name of the Royal forest that occupied the surrounding of the area in the Middle Ages. An announcement was made in the Bath Chronicle in June 1792 of the establishment of the Melksham Bank by the firm of Awdry, Long & Bruges. In November 1813 the misquoting of part of an advertisement in two London newspapers caused panic amongst the bank customers, many of whom quickly withdrew their money, reportedly causing some bustle among the partners of the bank.
In 1815 the Melksham Spa Company was formed by a group of 'respectable gentlemen', with names such as Methuen, Long and others, all of whom had done very well from the now declining textile industry. Their aim was to promote a spa, after abortive attempts to find coal had uncovered two springs.
The civil parish of Melksham includes Melksham Forest, formerly a separate settlement 0.8 miles (1.3 km) to the northeast and now a suburb of the town. It has an Anglican church (St Andrew) and a Methodist church Based upon its overall road length, the shortest street in Melksham is aptly called Short Street, situated at the top of Melksham Forest.
The parish of Melksham Without includes several villages and suburbs of Melksham:
Bowerhill, a large residential community generally considered as separate from Melksham, with a large industrial area
Hunter's Meadow, a relatively new district north of Bowerhill
Berryfield, a village south of and adjacent to Melksham, often considered part of the town
Beanacre, a village to the north, again often considered as a northern suburb of the town.
Melksham has an Assembly Hall and the Rachel Fowler Centre while many of the surrounding villages have community halls which offer a wide variety of activities. Melksham Oak Community School offers a variety of sporting and cultural facilities to the community of Melksham.
The town is served by Melksham railway station, on the branch of the Wessex Main Line from Chippenham to Trowbridge, and currently it is served by eight trains in either direction each weekday (5 to 7 on Sunday), up from just 2 a day prior to December 2013. Trains are operated by Great Western Railway.
Melksham is on the north-south A350 main road from the M4 motorway (Junction 17, near Chippenham) to Poole on the south coast. It is served by bus companies including Faresaver and First West of England. The A350 stretch directly to the south of the town has been designed to allow for possible future expansion to dual-carriageway status if required.

Keynsham Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Somerset, and roughly equidistant between Bristol and Bath, is the town of Keynsham (pronounced 'CANE-shum').
Geographically, Keynsham is situated at the confluence of the River Avon and River Chew, with the Chew Valley lying just to the south. Archaeological findings hint at a strong Roman presence in Keynsham, which was once home to at least two Roman villas.
In circa 1166 Keynsham Abbey was founded by William, 2nd Earl of Gloucester, as a house for Augustinian canons. Around its peak it held over 4,000 acres of land in and around Keynsham, but ultimately succumbed to Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, and was destroyed in 1539.
At the heart of the town is the Church of St John the Baptist. This dates from the 13th century, with additions up to the 15th century. It once featured a spire until it collapsed into the building following a storm in 1632. Subsequent restoration took place between 1634 and 1655, along with additional 19th century restoration.
In 1840 the railway arrived in Keynsham as part of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway. Today, the station is situated on the Great Western Main Line which connects London to Bristol.
In the 1920s the Somerdale Factory was built in Keynsham by Fry’s (later part of Cadbury's), becoming a major source of employment in the town. The factory closed in 2011 and its buildings have since been repurposed as retirement homes.
Famous people from Keynsham include comedian Bill Bailey (born in Bath) and cricketer Marcus Trescothick.

Finding The Secret Garden Centre Well Hidden in Keynsham, Bristol
Who would have thought that hidden away in Keynsham in the city of Bristol, England is a Secret Garden Centre; access to which is more akin to driving along narrow country roads in the heart of the countryside of Cornwall rather than on main roads that you would normally expect to find in cities.

We only recently got to know about the Garden Centre by word of mouth, and since discovering it’s existence it’s now become our preferred first option when shopping for garden supplies; primarily because being a local family run business it’s plants are a significantly cheaper than the array of national garden centres scattered around Bristol. On our first visit we bought tomato plants (6 inches tall) for just 99p each rather than the usual £2.99 per plant.
And on the corner of the main road leading to the rather quaint country roads and onto the Secret Garden Centre is the ‘Rest-A-While-Café’; which we haven’t tried, but its name and location (stuck in the middle of nowhere) makes it look and sound intriguing.

This video is of the car journey starting from the ‘Rest-A-While-Café’ along the country roads in the city and, after our stop at the garden centre, the return journey home to Fishponds on the Staple Hill border, in Bristol.
It was a fine sunny day, so a pleasant drive back along city roads, with plenty of views of bright blue sky highlighting some of the greenery and beauty of the city.

Welcome back to another video from SpottersUK Today we're at Keynsham on the Great Western Mainline between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads Via Swindon and Chippenham. Keynsham is one of the only stations along the Southern end of the route where the train is fully able to pick up some speed through a station along the route, Oldfield Park is also a station where the train passes through however if the train is coming from Bristol the driver will have begun to break for the upcoming station which is Bath Spa, a Major Station in this particular route!
Keynsham is Great, the view looking down towards Bristol is Incredible and also looking back towards bath is a long Sweeping Bend and sometimes you can get a great Shot of the IET's Curling round. Keynsham does not serve any mainline services bound for london, Only Services towards Weymouth, Bristol Temple Meads, FIlton Abbey Wood, Gloucester, Great Malvern and also Westbury. Keynsham does infact have a large catchment area of passengers using the train as the platforms do begin to fill up about 20 minutes before the train arrives, Thankfully the platforms are extremely long so you're not in passengers way and can maintain social distancing!

A Walk Around Parade Gardens, Bath, England
These delightful gardens are Bath’s most centrally situated and popular pleasure grounds, attracting both tourists and residents. Overlooking the River Avon they give fine views of Robert Adams Pulteney Bridge and the weir, especially from the colonnade built early in the last century. The bedding displays are among the finest in the country and the annual 3-dimensional floral feature in the summer is always fun. Concerts are held in the bandstand throughout the summer months and children’s entertainment is provided during the summer holidays. Deck chairs are available. Picnics are allowed but there is also a café with outdoor seating.
