Top 10 PRETTIEST Towns in ESSEX
What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Essex? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.
As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.
All footage is my own, and originates from my flagship channel, 4K Explorer, which you can check out here: --

Tollesbury, Essex, UK
SEE MY TRAVEL WEBPAGES:
Tollesbury is located very close to the coast at the mouth of the River Blackwater in Essex. We see in this film the large expanses of marsh which floods more or less twice a month so it is not the place to leave your vehicle unattended.
There was a strong wind the day I visited, which I assume is quite common. The result is that at times it is a little difficult to hear what I have to say about the power plant in the distance and my opinion of those that protest against wind farms.
We can also see the parish church of Tollesbury which was built just after the Norman Conquest, possibly using bricks from the Roman fort which was nearby. If so, this would mean that the materials are almost 2,000 years old. Construction materials include rubble, flint and conglomerate walling with freestone quoins. Parts are also Tudor such as the doorway. and the tower parapet walls and pinnacles are from the 17th century. Buttresses are made from flint and brick which is common for East Anglia.
As can be seen in the film, I managed to park in two locations although I would not want to stop the night in either - in the first case because of the danger of flooding and in the second because of the noise.

KELVEDON HATCH PUB WALK (13/7/17)
I had some time to kill before work on a Thursday so I headed out to a local village to do a 3.5 mile pub based walk around Kelvedon Hatch and Doddinghurst. It was only 10 minutes drive from my house and 5 minutes from where I work. Yet I saw places I had never seen before, thus proving that you can explore and have a mini adventure right on your doorstep. Sort of!
Apologies for the lack of focus in the woodland sections of the walk, the lighting was poor and my phone camera doesn't like forests, unless it's on selfie mode. Either I need a better camera or I just need to brush up on my filming skills. More like both!

Places to see in ( Fordingbridge - UK )
Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish with a population of 6,000 on the River Avon in the New Forest District of Hampshire, England, near to the Dorset and Wiltshire borders and on the edge of the New Forest. It is 81 miles (130 km) southwest of London, and 10 miles (16 km) south of the city of Salisbury. Fordingbridge is a former market town. The Avon Valley Path passes through the town.
Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish in Hampshire on the banks of the River Avon. The first Great Bridge, from which the town received its present name, was built in mediaeval times, and is upstream from the ford. The bridge is a major feature of the town with its seven graceful arches, which can be seen very easily from the town's large riverside park where one can walk along the riverbank draped with willows and waterside plants. Close by is a children's play area, secluded memorial gardens, parks and sports playing fields. A bronze statue of the painter Augustus John stands on the banks of the Avon near the Great Bridge.
Not far from the High Street is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin which has some typical Norman characteristics. Lands in Fordingbridge and the advowson of the church were granted to King's College, Cambridge in 1447 by Henry VI, after being given to the Crown by Humphrey, Duke of Buckingham.
The Fordingbridge Museum, which houses local history exhibits, and the Visitor Information Centre are located in King's Yard. There is also a Roman villa in the nearby village of Rockbourne, which is open to visitors during the summer. The local comprehensive school is The Burgate School And Sixth Form Centre, which is situated in Burgate, a small hamlet to the north of the town. Fordingbridge Hospital is a small community hospital on the site of a Victorian workhouse. Most of the old buildings remain but the inpatient ward is a more recent addition. The town's medical centre is on the same site in Bartons Road
Since 1982 Fordingbridge has been twinned with Vimoutiers in Normandy. Fordingbridge is also home to Fordingbridge Turks FC, one of the 50 oldest football clubs in England, established circa 1868. The Turks name seems to derive from wishing to emulate the determination shown by Ottoman forces at Siege of Plevna. The recreation ground is also home to Fordingbridge Rugby Club, who have been one of the more successful Hampshire clubs in recent years.
The parish of Fordingbridge contains the hamlets of Burgate to the north, Criddlestyle to the east, Bickton to the south, and Ashford to the west. Burgate and Bickton are settlements dating back to the time of the Domesday Book, and in fact Bickton was a larger settlement than Fordingbridge in 1086. Criddlestyle is an ancient manor, also known as East Mill, with a history dating back to the 14th century. The largest hamlet today is Ashford, which was the location of an ancient watermill, and was the location of Fordingbridge railway station until it was closed in 1964.
The first bridge at Fordingbridge was built before 1252, when the bailiff and men of the town received a grant of pontage for one year towards its repairs. A custom which survived until 1840 obliged the lord of Fordingbridge during one summer month known as fence month to keep the bridge guarded and arrest anyone found taking venison from the New Forest.
( Fordingbridge - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Fordingbridge . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Fordingbridge - UK

You won't believe what we found in Essex: A secret Nuclear Bunker in Kelvedon Hatch
You won't believe what we found in Essex… A secret Nuclear Bunker in Kelvedon Hatch, in Brentwood Essex. We even had the privilege of having an exclusive interview with the owner, Mike Parrish. It is a large underground bunker maintained during the Cold War, as a potential Regional Government Headquarters.
The Bunker had three main lives. Initially as an RAF ROTOR Station and latterly a Regional Government Headquarters, with a brief period in the 1960s as a Civil Defence Centre.
There were also spare bunk beds in the tunnel, to help accommodate some of the hundreds of civilian and military personnel that would be stationed here in the time of a nuclear attack. The bunker was built on land requisitioned from the local farmer J.A. Parrish.
Paradoxically as the heat of the Cold War died down, the bunker and its ancillary systems were no longer required by the government and were costing up to 3 million pounds a year to keep on standby. Upon decommissioning in 1992, the bunker was bought back from the government by the Parrish family, at a closed bid public auction, and hence is now privately owned.

Kelvedon Hatch Camping & Caravanning Club Site Review 👍🏻
The entrance to Kelvedon Hatch is a little tricky. Just take it easy and slooooowly and you'll be fine.
I show you around the site, which has a VERY clean shower area and is great for families. Split across two fields, with the shower block in the middle.
Remember, caravanning should be fun. Be safe, but don't worry about everything.

Kelvedon Snivellers Lane, Marks Tey Dobbies Lane, Trimley & Ipswich (31-10-2018)
The focus of this trip is the Great Eastern Main Line. We start at a seldom used foot crossing just south of Kelvedon, where we see a host of trains including a pair of Class 86s on a Freightliner working and a pair of Class 37s on a RHTT. Next we head north to Feering where we see a Class 70 on a southbound Freightliner working, which are becoming increasingly rare. After a short stop at a familiar location, Dobbies Lane in Marks Tey, where we see the RHTT head north we head to Trimley where we see work progressing on the double tracking from here to Lavington.
To conlude we make a visit to Ipswich once the sun has gone down, there is some freight traffic as well as the regular passenger services. Almost all of the trains in this video will start to be replaced over the coming months.
Camping by an Abandoned NUCLEAR BUNKER
In this video we went on a camping trip near the site of an abandoned nuclear bunker in Kelvedon Hatch, South of England - not far from London! Our journey takes us through the forest, where some llamas add a frightening twist to our exploration, up until we meet the eerie remnants of the Cold War era - the abandoned nuclear bunker. Nearby, we tested our skills on an obstacle course. As night falls and rain pours down, we settled in our tent for a wet night under the stars.

swcwalks swcwalk 216, Kelvedon Circular. 6/4/18.
Around 12 miles of walking in the Blackwater Valley, Essex. Soon after leaving the station, it's through Blackcurrant fields and then along quiet field boundaries. Passing through Coggeshall Hamlet, the walker then follows the Blackwater, on past the remains of Coggeshall Abbey, with lunch outside St Nicholas' Chapel (where's there's an impromptu visit inside!).
After lunch, it's along The Essex way, passing Grange Barn, to Nunn's Bridge, crossing over The Blackwater again.
The walker then arrives in historic Coggeshall, which has more than 300 listed buildings.
The walk then moves away into open countryside, with more green lanes and field margins, before the return into Feering and then Kelvedon station.
The going underfoot wasn't too bad today due to some sunshine and a drying breeze. Could be a very damp/muddy walk in Winter.
