What to expect when you visit Kasese 🇺🇬 (Kasese series// Part1 // EPISODE E// NOMAD LIFESTLYE)

#nomadlife #tourism #LikeCommentSubscribe #fyp #toursandtravel
Kasese is one of the most beautiful and gifted places to visit in Uganda, basing on the number of features that exist. These include the Kyibira Kyahumba hot springs, Kiwa herritage hot springs, River Nyamwamba, River Mubuku, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Mountain Rwenzori, Kilembe mines. All the named places have a lot that one can learn from, as a snippet; did you know, entering the hot spring water heals many diseases but mostly bones and that is why many people with born/spine issues travel to enter the hot springs.

Kasese & The Rwenzori Mountain Ranges|| Uganda

Rwenzori Mountains National Park in Kasese.

The Rwenzori Mountains National Park provides stunning views of glacier and snow-capped mountains just kilometres from the equator, where it is contiguous with the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Having the third highest mountain in Africa at 5,109 m (after Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya), the Park includes a much larger alpine area than either, covering an area of 99,600 ha of which 70% lies at over 2,500 m in height. The Rwenzori Mountains are the highest and most permanent sources of the River Nile, and constitute a vital water catchment. Their multitude of fast flowing rivers, magnificent waterfalls and stratified vegetation make the property exceptionally scenic and beautiful. The mountains are well-known for their unique alpine flora which includes many species endemic to the Albertine Rift in the higher altitude zones including giant heathers, groundsels and lobelias. The Park also supplies local communities with various wild resources and is an important cultural heritage.

I met a chimpanzee and was excited and headed for the second largest national park in Uganda. Located in Queen Ellajabes National Park, the equator. It is Queen Elizabeth National Park, a wildlife paradise and the pride of Uganda. It is a little bigger than Jeju Island, and there are many large and small lakes. It is also an ecological park designated by UNESCO because of the preservation of various flora and fauna. I met the children watching the hippo at the entrance of the village. I am more of a miracle than a hippopotamus. Like the calm lake, the daily life of the village was peaceful and calm. It is a cartwheed salt lake that seems to have tied various colored tiles. It is the largest salt production site in Uganda. When I found the salt lake, there were not many people working. It is said that because of the rain in the wet season, the concentration of salt in the lake is low and it does not work. On the contrary, there is a shortage of dry days in the dry season, so the children are busy to mobilize. In other parts of the world, many people gather here to make money. How much do you spend a day? 400 won, 500 won every day, but every day is different. Salt production in Lake Cartwheel has been around for 500 years. It is the determination of the sweat that a lot of workers have shed. The importance of salt lake can be said in three ways: the first is an important source of income for nearby villagers, the second is to improve the digestion capacity of the livestock through salt, to obtain better quality livestock, But taking the salt is dangerous enough to hurt the workers' body. It is about four times more salty than the sea. I feel the pain of the workers who have to take the risk and go to the salt lake for a living. Uganda is a paradise for birds, so you can easily meet hundreds of birds from any lake. Most of the birds that occupy this place are flamingos. It is not the main habitat, but it is said that the surrounding lake has moved to dry away in the drought. Salt Lake has become the best habitat for flamingos because of its abundant food and the reluctance of other animals to approach it.

UGANDA 2024 - Self-Guided Travel - FROM KASSESE TO RWENZORI MOUNTAINS

Kasese is a vibrant town located in western Uganda, nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, often called the Mountains of the Moon. Kasese is a gateway to these majestic mountains and serves as a central hub for travelers heading into the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The town is also known for its rich culture, local markets, and proximity to Queen Elizabeth National Park, making it a strategic point for tourism in the region.
@mojasaga3945
Kasese is bustling with activity, with local markets offering a variety of Ugandan produce, crafts, and handmade goods that showcase the culture of the Bakonzo people, who primarily inhabit the region. The town also features a mix of restaurants, guesthouses, and facilities to cater to visitors preparing for treks or safaris. The presence of the nearby Kilembe Mines, once one of Uganda’s largest copper producers, also adds historical significance to the area. Today, Kasese is largely focused on tourism and serves as the main entry point for those heading to explore the rugged beauty of the Rwenzori Mountains.

The journey from Kasese to the Rwenzori Mountains is a scenic drive that gradually ascends from the bustling town into lush, mountainous terrain. Here’s what to expect along the way:

Distance and Accessibility: The road from Kasese to the Rwenzori National Park's main trailheads is approximately 10-20 kilometers, depending on the chosen entry point. Most visitors travel to Kilembe or Nyakalengija, the two main starting points for Rwenzori treks. The roads are generally accessible year-round, but travelers should be prepared for occasional rough patches, especially during the rainy season when the paths can become muddy.

Scenic Landscapes: As you leave Kasese, the landscape quickly transforms, with views of terraced hillsides, banana plantations, and verdant valleys. The ascent offers breathtaking views of the plains below, and on clear days, you can see Lake George and Queen Elizabeth National Park in the distance. The air becomes cooler as you approach the foothills, providing a refreshing contrast to the warmer climate in the town.

Local Villages and Culture: Along the route, you’ll pass through small villages where the Bakonzo people live. These communities are closely tied to the mountains and have a rich cultural heritage. Visitors may encounter locals wearing traditional clothing or spot children waving as they pass by. The Bakonzo people view the Rwenzori Mountains as sacred, and their customs and folklore are intertwined with the peaks. It’s common to see local farmers tending to hillside plots, growing crops like coffee, bananas, and millet.

Wildlife and Flora: The drive introduces travelers to the biodiversity of the region, with dense vegetation, forested areas, and a variety of bird species. As you approach the national park boundaries, the ecosystem shifts to montane forest, filled with unique plant life such as giant lobelias and tree ferns. The area is home to diverse bird species, some endemic to the Rwenzoris, making the journey appealing to birdwatchers.

Usually a safari tour starts early in the morning. Because in the afternoon the day is hot and some predators are not moving. The first place I visited was a kind of waiting room where the male coves wait to mate with the female. So it seems that the early stranger does not welcome the visit of the stranger. Mature herbivores appeared and disappeared. The world without predators was peaceful. I could not see the top predators, but I also had the fortune of meeting a family elephant crowd led by mature females. An elephant has a good memory and is said to remember a person or animal that afflicted him for a lifetime. Males are mostly living alone, and they are very intense and should not be approached in a hurry. Kajinga channel where you can see various animals. It is a paradise for birds, a place where many ornithologists and bird lovers are looking for. This boat travels only on the Kajinga channel and I am Patra. Boat tours, which run twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon, say that the number of passengers in the rainy season is somewhat low, but that they must be booked at the dry season. There are also hippopotons by a group of African buffalo. Among the largest animals, hippopotamus is the most abundant, with about 2,000 inhabited. The Kajinga channel is known as a bird's paradise. The Kajinga Channel, where peaceful coexistence of various wildlife can be seen, is said to have attracted many algae scholars and birds-loving tourists. Especially here, you can get close to birds that have nests or habitats on nearby coasts by boat. This is the waterway connecting Lake George and Edward. Many hippopotamus, such as hippopotamus, cool down and breed in fresh water, and many birds are important places to feed and live.

Edward Lake, located on the border with Congo. 70% of the lake is owned by Congo and 30% by Uganda. A fishing village on the edge of the lake. The fishermen are busy gathering up the net. The fishermen here go out to the lake at 4 pm and catch the fish until 7 am the next day. How far does it go? (PD Question) It will take about two hours. The lake is a residential area for residents. However, there are many worries about the decrease in catches due to drought. Still, the lake does not abandon the hope of the people. The boy shows off his fish and boasts it. The size is enormous. The fish caught are scraped off on the spot, dried and then sold. Cassini is a typical fishing village with less than a thousand villagers. In the village, lunch is in full swing. The simmered fish is always on the table like our kimchi. It is similar to Korean hokok, which is made by mixing banana and flour. Its name is 'Zapatty'. I asked three telepias, like the sea bream, to buy for my 5,000 won money and fry them in a nearby restaurant. Delicious sounds stimulate the ears. Once you look at the taste of the fried fish, you will continue to bother me for more. How about the taste of fried whole fish that you only eaten with sashimi or grilled fish? I could not imagine. If you share delicious things, it is more delicious. The taste of the fish was terrible. It was like a chimney to eat more, but the frying oil seemed to look old for a long time. For fishermen, the net is a weapon. Like soldiers who take guns before they go to war, they manage the net daily. Nature that does not allow greed. People who adapt to nature. They do not expect to be lonesome. It only accepts what the lake gives.
