MISKOLC HUNGARY | Discovering the Beauty of Hungary's North

Hi and welcome to Northern Hungary. In this Hungary travel video (magyarország videó), I continue my travel in Hungary , one of the more affordable countries in Europe, with a bit of a secret travel tip that offers off the beaten path travel in beautiful Hungary. So if you are curious about what to see in Hungary beyond its beautiful capital Budapest, and you want to travel off the beaten path or get to know places where life revolves around its locals rather than groups of tourists, Miskolc and Hungary's Northeast are the places to go to.

Miskolc is a less known city in Europe but should be on your list of places to visit on your next trip to Hungary. It is located in the north-east of Hungary, somewhat away from big tourist routes, and is Hungary’s fourth-largest city. It's one of the many historic cities in Eastern Europe and Central Europe and used to be a major center of heavy industry in the last century. Today Miskolc is the regional center of Northern Hungary and famous for its beautiful city center with a pedestrian zone that is lined with historic buildings full of old-world charm. It also features a medieval castle, a cave bath and a beautiful wooden church which is yet another must-see wooden church to visit in Eastern Europe.

The city is surrounded by the Bükk Mountains, Hungary's largest national park that offers some of the most beautiful mountains in Eastern Europe. The highlight might however be the nearby forest town of Lillafüred with its castle-crowned lake that is a must-see. If you are looking for a fairytale like beautiful scenery in Europe, Lillafüred is the place to see. Further to the northeast of Miskolc lies the village of Hercegkút, a beautiful destination if you are interested in the old vineyards culture of northeastern Hungary. It's a unique place as the vine caves are built into the mountain which makes it a fascinating place to see and a special travel tip for Eastern Europe even if you don't like vine.

I'm back!
This is a new series, were I explore the nation of Hungary. Back in April I stayed in Tatabánya, Hungary for all the month. Staying with my girlfriend and her family.
Well this is my 2nd visit to Hungary, my last visit being in the summer of 2019.
I'll be covering a lot places of Tatabánya, places around Hungary, and of course Budapest.
Walking through villages, seeing historic places like castles, churches and mines, abandoned places, Hungarian malls/retail and some cool spots all around.

This episode we are going to walk a bit through the Alsógalla district of Tatabánya and walking up the hill a bit to see a used up limestone mine. Have many dogs bark on our way back.

What is Szentendre and what happens there?
Szentendre is a scenic town on the Danube's bank, about 40-minutes from Budapest, best known for its Mediterranean vibes, Baroque architecture, history of Serbian residents, Hungarian folklore stores, and extensive art scene, both old and modern. True, you can find all of those in Budapest, so Szentendre isn't a must-visit destination for short-term visitors. But if you enjoy a break from big-city life, you can spend an adventure-filled half a day here with some advance planning. Szentendre's food scene has a long way to go, but I’ve included below a few cafés and restaurants that won’t disappoint.

The visit to Szentendre is done during the day, the city is not very big, you can leave quietly at the end of the morning and return at the end of the afternoon, the frequency of the trains is reasonable, you just need to be informed schedules in advance so as not to be caught off guard.

Szentendre (or Saint-André) is a small town easily accessible by train or boat, which explains the fact that there are many tourists. The city is famous for its museums and art galleries. In the past, there was a very strong Serbian community in the area, and today, there are several churches of different denominations. In Szentendre, a Mediterranean air floats with its mainly Baroque architecture and narrow, cobbled streets.

Szentendre station is 5 minutes walk from the beginning of the historic center, it is really very convenient. At the exit of the station, I discover this nice sculpture of a globe-trotting robot. I arrive immediately in the large main artery, with its small craft shops.

The city is on the edge of an arm of the Danube, it is also served by boats. Stroll along the river, various urban facilities have been arranged and friendly little restaurants await you.

During your walk in Szentendre, try to pass through Kossuth Lajos Utca, Kucsera Ferenc Utca, Fő tér and around the Danube. You should thus come across art galleries, lace shops, souvenir shops, restaurants as well as the Chiprovachka and Blagovestenska churches on your way. As for museums, it all depends on your preferences and interests. The Ferenczy Museum hosts paintings and sculptures by local artists.

3 Must See Places in Hungary(that aren't in Budapest) | Incredible Cave Baths + Beautiful Lake Towns

In this video we drive off the beaten path and explore areas that most tourists don't see in Hungary! Budapest is incredible, but the countryside is BREATHTAKING as well! :) Before exploring Budapest we stayed two nights in the city of Miskolc where we relaxed at the incredible cave baths. These are unlike anything we've ever experienced-definitely a place to add to your Hungary trip itineary! After leaving Budapest, we head South to Székesfehérvár, Hungary and enjoying walking the picturesque streets! The old town is small, but charming! After that, we drive along Lake Heviz and make a stop to see the views. If only the weather was warmer, we would have put our swimsuits on and jumped in! We recommend a stop at Tihany & Balaton/Balatonfured if you have the time. :)

Land of the Watchmen | The Őrség | Hungary Countryside 🇭🇺

In this video we guide you through a hidden gem on the map of Hungary: The Őrség region. Rich History, local customs and culture, it is an exciting area of the Hungarian countryside.

Close to the border between Hungary, Austira and Slovenia there is a unique region that should be on the map of those who love hiking in nature and enjoy local culture.

It is a region of the Hungarian countryside called the Őrség, which has a very unique feeling to it, very different from the usual countryside someone imagines here. This is the land of the Watchmen, which is the literal translation of the word: Őrség

It is a region full of hills and deep #forests, home to #artisans and an ideal destination for hikers. There is also something very #unique to this region: The bell towers that have a distinct look and can be found everywhere here. However, these towers officially cannot be called as such as they occupy their very own page in the book of bell towers. For some region, they are referred to as Harangláb, which translates strangely into Bells Feet. That I find to be an incorrect name, as after careful observation you'll realise the trait that connects them all is something that looks like a skirt. Hence I believe Bells with a skirt fit better for these objects.

We took a day to explore the area and hunt down some of these Bell towers while also learning about the history and culture of the area.

Join us for this adventure in the beautiful countryside of #Hungary, the Őrség!

Wonders of Hungary - Gemenc Forest

Gemenc forest is an almost undisturbed sea of green in the southern part of Hungary. It is well-known for its rich flora and fauna and a popular destination for those who want to get away from the noisy everyday life. You can hike and row here, but mostly learn a lot about nature. And if you meet the precious dwellers of these woods, please keep in mind: they are not there to entertain you; you are their guest on their land.

Countryside Adventures In Hungary

In this episode, we're taking you on a wild (weird?) ride through the beautiful Hungarian countryside. 🌿🇭🇺

So come along on this weird adventure where we really live like a local here in Hungary. Life is still a lot different here sometimes , as you can see in my previous vlogs, where we went to an animal market that was not too pretty to see.. check it out here -- --

We also get an exclusive look into a local's tiny home where we drink local moonshine (which is legal to make up to 20 liters in Hungary) 🏡

!!! Always be safe and careful when drinking homemade alcohol, do proper research, and don't accept any random drink. Drinking homemade liqour can be dangerous or even life threatening if not distilled correctly!!! I've known this person for 10 years and I know his liqour is safe!!!

But that's not all! wait to see me completely f*** up riding on a weird little tractor🚜 and take an off-roading journey through the rolling hills in a pickup jeep. 🏞️

So, if you're ready for a taste of genuine Hungarian culture and a thrilling countryside expedition, hit that play button now and join us on this one-of-a-kind adventure! Don't forget to like, subscribe, and ring that notification bell so you never miss another epic episode of Tale of Tim.

Adventure awaits! 🌄🚗💨
