Mount Karadag [Karaman / Turkey]
The slopes of the volcano have always been inhabited. In fact, catalhoyuk one of the earliest neolithic settlements in anatolia, is located at the north-west of the volcano, and there are Hittite inscriptions on the hills at the south-east of the mountain. Ancient Derbe, which is one of the towns Paul the Apostle had visited, is situated on the east slopes of the mountain. During the early ages of Christianiti, the towns on the mountain were religious centers. There are ruins of early Byzantine settlements all around the mountain and the region is called Binbirkilise. However, after Christianity was well established in big cities, the settlements on the mountain lost their religious importance.

Karamanoğlu Beyliğinin kurucusu Karaman Bey’den dolayı Laranda (Larende) olan şehir Cumhuriyet döneminde Karaman adını almıştır. 15 Haziran 1989 tarihinde Türkiye’nin 70. ili olmuştur.
Karaman İç Anadolu bölgesinin güneyinde yer alır. Kuzeyinde Konya, güneyinde Mersin doğusunda Ereğli, güneydoğusunda Silifke, batısında Antalya yer alır. Toplam Merkeze bağlı 5 ilçesi vardır. Bunlar Ayrancı, Başyayla, Ermenek, Kazımkarabekir ve Sarıveliler’dir. 2014 yılı sonu verilerine göre toplam nüfusu 240.362’dir. Karaman halkının ekonomik yapısı yanında sosyal durumu da gelişmiştir. Halkının % 95’i okur-yazar olup, yüksek öğrenim mezunu oldukça fazladır. İşsizlik oranı sıfır olan illerden bir tanesi Karaman’dır. Hatta Mersinin Mut İlçesi, Konya İlinin Ereğli ve Karapınar İlçelerinden Karaman’daki fabrikalarımıza işçi getirilerek istihdam sağlanmaktadır.
Çok eski tarihi geçmişi olan, farklı ekonomi ve kültürlerin karışıp kaynaştığı Karaman, birçok medeniyetlere beşiklik etmiş, en eski çağlardan itibaren bölgeler arasındaki kültür aracılığı rolünü de üstlenmiştir. İlimizde söz konusu medeniyetlerin özelliklerini yansıtan, tarihi, turistik, kültürel ve arkeolojik bakımdan önem arz eden birçok eser vardır. Hititlerden başlamak üzere Roma, Bizans, Karamanoğulları ve Osmanlılardan kalma çok sayıda anıt, yazıt, kilise, manastır, kale, köprü, sarnıç, cami, medrese, türbe, kümbet, han, hamam gibi asırlık eserler bulunmaktadır.

In this video, we begin day 3 of the 7 Cities in 7 Days challenge and explore Karaman, Turkey and visit the spooky abandoned Manazan Mağaraları (cave) as well as the beautiful underground cave of Incesu that was completely out in the middle of nowhere. Both of these caves to my surprise were completely free to visit. These are some of the most fascinating Turkish caves that I have visited since I have been in Turkey.
7 Cities in 7 Days is an exciting challenge and I cant wait to see what day 4 has in store for us. Stay tuned for part 4 where we head to Mersin, Turkey.

Tashkale is an amazing place in Turkey 2024 #shorts
45 km from the center of Karaman, in Tashkala, there is one very interesting place - a rock with carved windows as high as 7 floors. This rock is nothing more than a grain storage facility, according to some sources, about 800 years old. In this grain storage facility there are more than 250 warehouses, completely carved out by human hands on a high rock massif consisting of clay limestone in Tashkala.
The warehouses are carved out in the form of one or two rooms. You can climb up to the rooms by clinging to the recesses located under each window. The grain was lifted using a rope.
According to a local resident, these warehouses always maintain the same temperature and humidity regardless of weather conditions and time of year. In grain storage facilities, products can be stored for up to 30 years without spoiling due to the unique microclimate and ventilation system!
В 45 км от центра Карамана, в Ташкале, есть одно очень интересное местечко - скала с вырубленными окошками аж в 7 этажей. Эта скала не что иное как зернохранилище, по некоторым данным возрастом около 800 лет. В этом зернохранилище более чем 250 складов, полностью вырубленных руками человека на высоком скальном массиве, состоящем из глинистого известняка в Ташкале.
Склады вырезаны в виде одной или двух комнат. Подняться в комнатки можно цепляясь за выемки, расположенные под каждым окошком. Поднятие зерна же осуществлялось с помощью троса.
По словам местного жителя, в этих складах всегда сохраняется одинаковая температура и влажность вне зависимости от погодных условий и времени года. В зернохранилищах продукты могут храниться до 30 лет, не портясь за счет уникального микроклимата и системы вентиляции!
