NETHERLANDS: 'Oranjemolen' - windmill in Vlissingen (Zeeland)
The 'Oranjemolen' ('Orange Mill') is a flour mill and former peel mill on the Oranjedijk (dike) in Vlissingen, in the Dutch province of Zeeland (Netherlands). Because of its location, this mill is a good wind and eye catcher. The Oranjemolen is the closest windmill to the sea in the Netherlands.
In 2000 the Oranjedijk had to be raised by two meters. In addition, the crooked mill was set straight and jacked up two meters up with the help of pole foundations. A major restoration took place in 2002. The first restauration was in 1971.

The Historic Market of Veere | Netherlands - Seas The Day (Ep42)
Thank you to Anita from @OmaFarAway for the fantastic recommendation of us visiting the beautiful Dutch town of Veere, only 40 minutes away from us We haven’t been lucky enough to visit much of this area before due to the flying visits, but this time, we changed that. We hope to do much more exploring of this stunning area whilst we're here.
We were warned by Anita that this is a very touristy town and so to avoid the town centre car parks due to their high prices, and gave us a tip off of a free car park only a short walk from town. Great car park, very busy and so some of a neighbouring field was opened up for cars too. Also has spaces for camper vans and other larger vehicles. We didn't mind the walk into town as it had saved us an extortionate €5.60 an hour!!! And I thought the south of England was expensive.
As we walked along the road to the town centre we came across a beautiful bric a brac shop and a wonderful sweet shop, until we got up close and it just smelled of liquorice which we are not big fans of at all. Needless to say, we didn’t stop by. Town was very busy and we wandered through the streets, taking in all the old buildings from the 16th century. Veere is only a tiny town and we wanted to head to the market place located in the town centre, we’d read that there was some beautiful architecture around this square, and also that it was home to the museum which was a beautiful historic building. When we got there, to our surprise, the town was holding their monthly (only during the summer) historic market. Such beautiful smells wafting from the stalls selling everything from handmade baskets to clogs turned into bird feeders. It was beautiful, and we are so glad our timing coincidentally right as it was something not to be missed. This did however, mean the town was heaving! Defiantly no space for a coffee but we did find some delicious Dutch treats and decided to have those whilst overlooking the marina.
This town also holds a lot of history, it was first founded in 1281 and held strong connections to trade in Scotland. There is a fascinating tunnel going under a river that was used in Napoleonic times, and although we couldn’t go inside (without paying €10 each to see the art exhibition) the churches architecture was extremely interesting.
I know, we say this ALL the time, but if you are ever in South Holland, this is a must see place. So far top on my small list of places we’ve seen in this fascinating country.
PS – Anita says those apple things are Appel Beignets and the doughy balls we had in the town are Oliebollen which are like slightly less sweet donuts with currents and icing sugar.
