How ZAMBIA looks in 2023 🇿🇲

Crossing into Zambia🇿🇲 border by car | Katima Mulilo to Kalabo
In this video I finally cross the border from Namibia into Zambia at Katima Mulilo. Ill share some info on the 10 step process involved. Crossing the border into Zambia by car is a tedious process. Come prepared and the process will be a little easier.
From there I drive up to Mongu and then Kalabo for my visit to the Liuwa Plain National Park. Along the way I stay at the Kabula Tiger lodge, Mongu Country lodge (Mongu) and Golden lodge (Kalabo).

Based on my vehicles specifications, this was my experience:
Step 1: Port health. Check your vaccination certificate and complete a health arrival form for you.
Step 2: You, the health arrival form and passport proceed to immigration. Where they stamp both your passport and your health form. I am eligible for 90days at a time, but border officials are only allowed to authorize a 30 day stay. Entry permits need to be extended inside the country if you intend on staying longer.
Step3: Return the stamped health form to the lady at port health desk. No need to queue again, go straight to the front and hand it to her.
Step 4: Proceed to Interpol desk. I waited an hour and 10mins for this person to rock up, and hand them your passport, vehicle registration paperwork and police clearance (done in your home country)
First they compare the documentation against one another and then against your actual engine and chassis no on the vehicle.
If they are happy, they stamp your police clearance, and you fill in their book. You cannot proceed without that stamp.
Step 5: Proceed to customs (this is the only office outside the main building) for your temporary import permit. Nothing to do here. Hand in all the documents you have collected thus far and submit. Wait about 10mins, go and check the vehicle again as per your paperwork and all good. The TIP is only valid for 30days. No payments.
Step 6: Buy 3rd party insurance for your intended period of stay. I paid K522 for 3 months. You receive a disc that goes onto your windscreen. The lady even cuts it out for you , but it feels like I was overcharged according to the research I did beforehand.
Step 7: Proceed to a different customs desk a few cubicles away. Hand in all documentation. Provide name, email, telephone no and size of motor vehicle engine. They calculate your carbon tax dues. I paid K240 for my 2000 2.7i Toyota Hilux pick up.
Step 8: Proceed to Road Tax cubicle. They want to know how long you will be here and how far you intend to go. I think it is a flat rate…so not sure why they asked. I told them Ill be visiting all parts of Zambia and this is actually indicated on the paperwork. My total was US$38 and can only be paid in this currency. No credit card machines.
This is where I became impatient. The US$ I had was a bit used/worn and they refused to accept it. Not torn and taped back together, but normal wear and tear.
Step 9: Proceed to the exit gate. Before you reach it. Pay the local council tax K50. I believe this allows me to use the local roads. Judging from the size of the potholes, it is obviously not used to maintain the roads. Lol. Keep your receipt, there are roadblocks and people ask for it.
Step 10: The final exit gate. Submit all your paperwork, the guard checks that your disc is on your windscreen. It’s a quick verification that everything was completed. Then you are free to explore Zambia.
The entire process took 2.5hours. Just remember to renew your immigration permit and TIP before 30 days.

I was warned about this road in Zambia!
I had just entered Zambia from Namibia and had spend the night in a small campground right on the Zambezi river in the border town Sesheke.
I was about to take on possibly the worst road in Africa, the M10 from Sesheke to Kazungula. People had warned me about it - but I get so many warnings all the time, and often I end up thinking Ah, was that it. But this one was different! It actually lived up to its reputation.
In this video you will also see how I behave when I think I am meeting dishonest police officers. In this situation I chose to be a bit b*itchy. Just me trying to survive travelling alone. Still don't know if the council levy is supposed to be paid for motorcycles or not.
No matter, the officers were actually very nice.
Enjoy the ride!

Quick Guide to Zambia: Visa-free travel for South Africans
Zambia is home to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is commonly known as Africa’s “Adventure Capital”.
While sharing the mighty Victoria Falls with Zimbabwe along its border, visitors who see the Falls from this country get a completely different experience.
Not only is Zambia home to an abundant natural and cultural heritage, it is also known for offering some extreme adventure activities like white-water rafting down the Zambezi River, bungee-jumping from Victoria Falls bridge, and swimming in Devil's Pool which is on the cliff of the Victoria Falls.
Here's a look at Zambia and what you need to know should you want to visit:

When I was challenged to take Honey into the Crocodiles!
Day 715: I am finally telling the story behind the picture of Honey next to a pile of hungry crocodiles!
When visiting the legendary Livingstone in Zambia, I was not only hosted by the local bikers in town, but also invited to visit the Livingstone Crocodile Park by bikers Sue & Ian. They are not just bikers and members of the local bike club, The Mad Dogs, they also own the Livingstone Crocodile Park. And not only did I have the pleasure of riding with them, I also got a chance to get intimate with some of the scariest man-eaters you can imagine.
Thanks to Ian for the challenge!

Trip to Kalene, Zambia Trip Dec10-Jan11
Trip by a team from New Zealand to the Kalene Mission Hospital in Zambia where they built a clinic building, repaired hospital equipment, assisted in an orphanage, ran youth programs, worked as needed as well as fitting in a safari on the way home.
Kalene was founded in 1905 by Missionaries and today provides a surgical hospital, hydro scheme (for reliable power), nurse training hospital and is base for a mission air service. An orphanage for Aids orphans operates nearby for children up to the age of 5, when they return to live with relatives.
My daughter Gracie was one of the team and took these photos and video clips.
